REGULATIONS 1. Purpose 1.1. These Scholarships have been established to enhance the awareness and foster interest in exchange programmes offered by the University of Waikato. Ten Scholarships are awarded each year to: (a) encourage students to participate in exchange programmes; (b) provide financial support to students approved for exchange programmes; and, (c) promote exchange destinations most relevant for management. 2. Eligibility 2.1. To be eligible, candidates must: a) have completed at least one year of study at the Waikato Management School and be eligible to apply for exchange programmes; b) have been accepted into a University of Waikato exchange programme; c) apply to institutions listed as recommended institutions (refer to appendix A); d) be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand; and, e) be full-time students at the Waikato Management School. 3. Value 3.1. The value of the awards (in NZD) are as follows: 3.1.1. Europe $2,500; 3.1.2. USA, Canada and Mexico $2,000; and, 3.1.3. Asia $1,500. 4. Application 4.1. The closing dates for applications is 13 March for B Semester 2015 exchanges and the 17 July for A Semester 2016 exchanges. 4.2. Along with the International Exchange Scholarship Application Form, each applicant must submit: a) a letter of application; and, b) a brief CV (of no more than three pages in length). 5. Selection Criteria 5.1. The awards are offered on the basis of: (a) academic performance; (b) perceived benefits of the exchange programme; and
(c) reasons for choosing particular institution or country. 5.2. Preference will be given to students who have achieved a minimum of A- grade average in the last two semesters. 6. Selection Panel 6.1. The Selection Panel will include the Waikato Management School s Acting Dean, Associate Dean International, Student Services Manager, and the Scholarships Committee member (or nominees). 6.2. The Selection Panel may refrain from making a recommendation if it finds no candidate of sufficient merit. 6.3. The Selection Panel s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into following the selection meeting. 7. Awarding 7.1. The successful applicant will be advised of the offer of a Scholarship within six weeks of the closing date. 7.2. The offer of a Scholarship must be accepted by the date indicated in the letter of offer. If a candidate declines a Scholarship, or does not take it up, the Selection Panel may offer the Scholarship to another applicant. 7.3. A Scholarship shall be taken up in the semester for which it is offered. 7.4. Receipt of the scholarship will be conditional on acceptance into the exchange programme. 7.5. Any exception or variation to these arrangements must be approved by the Selection Committee. 8. Other Conditions 8.1. The Scholarships Committee may terminate a Scholarship at any time and recoup any funds awarded, if it is satisfied, that the recipient is not following the required programme or is not otherwise complying with the conditions governing the Scholarship and/or the regulations of the University of Waikato. The holder of a Scholarship shall have the right to appeal to the Education Committee against any decision to terminate the award. 8.2. The Scholarship may be held with any other bursary, scholarship or award, provided that the regulations of the other award allow this. 8.3. By accepting an Award, the recipient agrees to participate in any publicity concerning the scholarship arranged by the University of Waikato. The recipient may be asked to attend a presentation ceremony.
