CARE CERTIFICATE SOLUTION The Care Certificate is the new training standard for all social and health care workers in England. Introduced in April 2015, it defines the required values, behaviours, and competencies a new carer must learn and demonstrate in their first 12 weeks of employment. Care certificate elearning 1. Understanding Your Role This course provides an introduction to the Care Certificate Standards, helping care workers understand the scope and importance of their role and responsibilities to the individuals they support. Included are standards and codes of conduct, the importance of working in ways agreed with an employer, the value of partnership and how previous experiences and attitudes can affect work. 2. Your Personal Development Understanding the importance of self-assessment and feedback from others is essential for carers to develop their professional knowledge and skills, and advance in their careers. This course outlines how to plan personal development using reflection, learning activities and feedback as well as how to properly record progress towards goals. 3. Duty of Care This course describes the duty of care and how it affects a carer s work role. It details potential dilemmas surrounding the duty of care and how to recognise and manage these. Equality and Diversity The equality and diversity course addresses issues of discrimination in social care and how to promote equality and inclusion. It includes concepts of equality, diversity and discrimination as well as working procedures, and an individual s responsibility to challenge discrimination. Working in a Person-centred Way Carers need to be able to promote person-centred values and work in a person-centred way in every sphere of their day-to-day activities, and promote active participation of clients by supporting their right to make choices. Safeguarding children This course addresses the safeguarding of children from abuse and neglect. Whether working directly with children, or having contact with in a care workers role, there is a responsibility to ensure their safety. Basic Life Support Training and knowledge on how to provide basic life support enables care workers to help in situations where an individual collapses and is not breathing. This course, intended for use only alongside an employer s further training, helps a carer to become familiar with the key steps and actions required to provide a quick and appropriate response. 13. Health and Safety The course identifies the relevant health and safety legislation and describes the main health and safety responsibilities of care workers, their employers and others in a care environment. It explains the importance of assessing risks and helps carers recognise the importance of properly following health and safety policies and procedures. 14. Handling Information This course helps care workers comply with the Data Protection Act 1998 and follow their organisation s policies and procedures when recording, storing, and sharing information. It offers guidelines on completing records, explains the importance of having secure systems for sensitive information and covers procedures for reporting any failures in information handling. 15. Infection Prevention and Control Seemingly minor illnesses can have serious consequences for frail and vulnerable individuals. This course outlines the precautions and steps a carer needs to take to meet their responsibility in preventing and controlling the spread of infections at their place of work.

Observation and assessment worksheets Each of the Care Certificate standards defines specific competencies which must be observed and assessed in the workplace for a learner to pass their Care Certificate. While some knowledge can be effectively assessed via our in-course testing, supported by workplace observations, some competencies can only be observed and assessed on the job.
