Depending on your chosen field, you may be able to complete part, or all, of your degree online. This booklet provides the information you will need to get started or to continue your education at Weber State. Welcome to the university community. Sincerely, F. Ann Millner, President Weber State University

Weber State University is a DANTES approved institution. > In-State Tuition Rates If you are active duty, you are likely to quality for resident tuition rates. PRoud to support our service men and women WSU has been ranked as one of the top military-friendly universities in the country by Military Advanced Education.

Call 801-626-7218 in Ogden or visit the Davis Campus Enrollment office (801-395-3480) and we ll help you get started. STEP 3 Apply for Admission > Apply online or in person Once you ve decided WSU is for you, your next step is to apply for admission. You can apply online (weber.edu/admissions) or in person at the Ogden or Davis campus. > Set up a wildcat account A Wildcat account is your one-stop shop for all things Weber. This online portal will allow you to register online, check your transcript, get your student e-mail account, check your financial aid status, pay tuition, as well as review many other activities vital to your education at WSU. If you encounter any problems with your account, call Computing Support at 626-7777.

> Reactivating GI Bill If you are coming back to WSU or have already used your MGIB benefits at another school, you must reactivate your GI Bill by filling out an application for a Change of Place of Training or Program (form 22-1995). Take the completed application to Veteran s Services. > Apply for your Veterans Educational Benefits If you haven t applied for your Veterans Educational Benefits, go to www.gibill.va.gov. STEP 4 See Where you Stand After we process your application, the Admissions Office will notify you if you are required to take a math and English placement exam prior to signing up for classes. A placement exam is a simple test to gauge your knowledge and skills in certain subjects. It s our way of making sure you don t end up taking classes you don t need. If you need to take a placement exam, visit weber.edu/testingcenter for testing center hours and locations. If you live more than 50 miles away from WSU and need to arrange an alternate testing site, call 801-626-6645. STEP 5 Talk with an Advisor Schedule an appointment with the appropriate academic advisor to create your plan of study. If you already know what you want to study, visit weber.edu/advisors. If you are transferring from another institution, an advisor can also help you determine how to best use your transfer courses. You can also check out the online transfer guide at weber.edu/transferguide, to see which courses may transfer. Nobody likes tests (we get it)» THE ACCUPLACER EXAM is going to test your math, reading comprehension and sentence skills. Once you get your scores, you ll know which math and English classes are the best fit for you. THIS STEP is to help you be successful. It makes sure you re not wasting your time and money in classes you re not ready for (which is especially important if you haven t taken classes in a while).

STEP 6 Find out about financial resources > Take your benefits application to veterans services After you ve applied for your Veterans Educational Benefits, submit your application to Veterans Services. > Apply to receive Utah resident tuition rates If you are stationed in Utah on active duty military orders or are a Utah resident stationed outside the state, you and your spouse/dependents likely qualify for resident tuition rates which can be received by completing the application for courtesy military resident classification. > Which GI Bill benefit hould you choose? «Public or for-profit: The showdown for older students. As more and more older students are returning to college, many for-profit schools have started making aggresive promises. These schools are different from state institutions in the way they are funded and accredited. There are three key factors you ll want to keep in mind as you advance your education. 1) Transfers Most of the classes and credits from for-profit schools won t transfer to state institutions. You could get stuck with a bunch of classes that won t count toward a degree. Credits earned at Weber State are easily transferred to other Utah state schools, and vice versa. 2) Program variety For-profit schools offer only a few programs. Weber State University has more than 230 certificate and degree programs to choose from. So if you change your mind, or the economy changes the job outlook suddenly, you ll have plenty of options. 3) Cost Don t be fooled by silly offers like free laptops. For-profit schools are costly. Check out how Weber State tuition compares to University of Phoenix. (Turns out that free laptop isn t really that free, is it?)
