(Bloomberg News, January 29, 2014) Graduates of this CMU program will be well qualified to sit for such industry certifications as: CISSP - Certified Information Systems Security Professional CCSK - Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge CompTIA Security + Program Content The program is composed of five required courses taught in 8-week terms: BIS 510 Fundamentals of Network Security BIS 521 Governance, Risk, and Compliance in BIS 523 Cybercrime Forensics BIS 525 Managing Security and Privacy in the Cloud BIS 530, Systems and Network Certification Online Delivery Coursework is delivered entirely online. CMU s online approach employs interactive learning classes that include chat sessions, message boards, , and content enriched with web technology. 2 Admission Information Admission to the Program The Graduate Certificate in is designed for regularly admitted graduate-level students with a basic networking and information technology background. Applicants should be prepared to provide evidence of either coursework, professional certification, or professional experience sufficient to be successful in this program. Readiness will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. As a general guideline, the type of background desired may include such things as: Courses equivalent to BIS 221 Computers in Business and BIS 255 Information Systems Certifications such as Microsoft NT Professional experience based on past and current job responsibilities Admission Requirements 1. Undergraduate degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher from a regionally accredited institution 2. Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate schools you have attended 3. Current résumé identifying training, experience, and professional accomplishments Financial Aid The Graduate Certificate in from Central Michigan University does qualify for Federal Financial Aid. To determine if they are eligible, students must apply for Federal Financial Aid at Preparatory Course BIS 502 Networking Fundamentals This course is designed for students who do not have the necessary networking and information technology background to be successful in this program. These students must successfully pass BIS 502 to continue on to the five required courses of the Graduate Certificate in.

4 Required Course List BIS 510 Fundamentals of Network Security (3 credits) Students gain the knowledge and skills to effectively and accurately analyze risks related to networks and systems. The issues of authenticity, confidentiality, integrity, and availability form the core of the necessary analysis. BIS 521 Governance, Risk, and Compliance in (3 credits) Students will investigate the type of external and internal threats that can compromise customer data, employee personal information, and digitized intellectual property. Effective policies for mitigating risks will be explored and you will learn how to implement security and remediation measures across an entire organization. BIS 523 Cybercrime Forensics (3 credits) Students will learn the laws regulating electronic evidence and the basis for gathering electronic digital evidence and artifacts. BIS 525 Managing Security and Privacy in the Cloud (3 credits) Students will be able to understand and define cloud computing concepts. The course will explore cloud computing and examine security and privacy issues that this relatively new model brings forth. BIS 530, Systems and Network Certification (3 credits) The student will learn the ten security areas, referred to as domains, as well as preparation tools and techniques that have become essential in order to be ready to take the CISSP exam to become a Certified Information Systems Security Professional. Order of Required Courses BIS 510 Fundamentals of Network Security is the foundational class for this graduate certifi cate and must be taken before the remaining four required courses. BIS 530, Systems and Network Certification is the culminating course of the series that will bring together all the concepts learned in the other courses. The other courses must be successfully completed before taking this course. (If it is determined by the department that a student lacks suffi cient background in networking and information technology, he or she must successfully complete BIS 502 Networking Fundamentals before proceeding to the five required courses.)
