In addition to Plymouth University s Library, PAHC students are entitled to borrow books and use Marjon Library. We are located just off the main quad and are clearly signposted. The three floors offer different study areas that are tailored to your study needs including a social area, bookable group work rooms, quiet and silent study areas. Getting started: Plymouth University students are issued with a separate Marjon Library card which you are able to collect from PAHC reception. You need to use this every time you borrow books from Marjon we can not accept Plymouth University cards. You will also need to have your Marjon Library card if you wish to book one of the group work rooms in the Library. You are responsible for all charges and items taken out on your account. Library Online: Plymouth University provide a range of electronic resources to help you with your studies. You can access these using your own laptop and logging onto Plymouth University s Wifi (eduroam) or by using one of the two dedicated Plymouth University PCs on the second floor of Marjon Library. For more information about resources provided through Plymouth University, visit their website http://www1.plymouth.ac.uk/library/pages/default.aspx You can also access the Marjon Library catalogue via http://www.marjon.ac.uk/student-life/library/librarycatalogue/. From here you can: Search the Library catalogue Renew your Library books View your checkout history Place reservations Your log in details are your Marjon student number (starts with 600 and is on the front on your Marjon Library card) and the default pin is set to 1111 we recommend that you change this once you have logged in.
Finding what you need: Your lecturers should provide you with a reading list to find the books you need, the best place to start is the Library catalogue. You can access this online from the Marjon Library webpage or use the OPACs situated on each floor of the Library Help and Advice: We are here to help so please ask at the counter or Enquiry desk. Using the Library: Borrowing: PAHC students are entitled to the same borrowing rights as Marjon students. To borrow you must bring your Marjon library card - unfortunately we are not able to accept your Plymouth University card. Like Marjon students, you are responsible for all items that you take out on your card. If your books go overdue we will send out several billing notices to your PU email address. If your fines are not paid within one week of receiving your final billing notice, your details will be passed to our Accounts department as a Marjon debtor. They will send official billings to the PAHC administration office to pass on to you. To help you stay on top of your library loans we will email you a pre-overdue notice the day before your books are due back to your PU student email account however these emails are a courtesy service only and should not be relied on. Opening hours: During term time the Library is staffed from 8.30am to 8pm during the week, and 11am to 4pm at weekends From the first week in October, the ground floor is open 24/7, providing study space and access to self-service facilities. Holiday hours will be advertised on the Library website, on Facebook and in the Library. Please note that the counter service closes 15 minutes prior to the Library closing. Study space: The Library offers a variety of study spaces. Group work can be done either on the ground floor or in the bookable group work rooms on the first floor. Group work rooms can be booked at the Library counter. The first floor is for quiet study so please keep noise to a minimum. There is also a dedicated silent study room on this floor and the whole of the second floor is for silent study. Although staff are regularly working on the floors, we do rely on users to observe the different study areas and to respect the right of others to work in peace and quiet. Noise text alert: The Library has a noise text alert service if you have problems with other noisy users, text us on 07964 122234 and let us know where you are in the Library- someone will be up as soon as possible to keep an eye on things. Facilities for PAHC Students: Computers: Marjon Library has two dedicated Plymouth University computers on the second floor. These are connected to the PU network allowing you to access the electronic resources as if you were on campus. The PAHC building offers a large IT suite and printing facility. Photocopying: There are photocopying machines on both the ground and first floor of the Library and credit for these can be purchased from the Library counter. Alternatively pop into the Copy Shop which is accessible from the ground floor of the Library or from the main quad. In addition to photocopying they offer transparencies, laminating and binding. Return book service: During PU term time the University offers a courier service to collect PU books and return them to Drake Circus library for you. Simply drop your library books into the box by the our enquiry desk on the ground floor, a couple of days before they are due. Please note that this service only runs from Marjon to Drake Circus you cannot return your Marjon books at Drake Circus. Please ensure you leave at least 3 days between depositing the book and its return date to allow time for transportation and processing. This service is only available during Plymouth University term time.
Additional Support: If you are a distance learner, you may qualify for our distance learner service. If you wish to make a distance learner request for material held at Marjon Library please ask your lecturer/ module leader/ tutor to email libraryenquiries@marjon.ac.uk to confirm you are eligible. We are unable to offer distance learner services until we have received this confirmation. Rules & regulations: PAHC students are subject to the Library regulations that form part of the Marjon Student Regulations Framework. The framework can be accessed from the Marjon website and Academic documents. All users are expected to show fellow users and staff respect, courtesy and consideration and to maintain the pleasant working environment the library offers, using the different study areas appropriately. When using the library we ask you to respect the following: - To only eat cold food - To respect the silent study areas and not talk in these areas - To use headphones when listing to music/audio files - Turn your mobile phone onto silent and only make and receive calls in the stairwells or social ground floor area - Treat library material with care - Respect copyright law information can be found by the photocopiers or on the Marjon Library website - Keep your valuables with you at all times.
- To inform the Library if you have any problems renewing or returning books, so we can help you avoid any fines building up - To pay your fines promptly unpaid fines will lead to the loss of your Library service if you have any queries about the fines on your account, please speak to a member of staff - Ask Library staff if you need assistance we are here to help! Library staff will ask you to move to another areas or remind you of the Library rules if they feel you are not using the area appropriately and are disturbing other students. Feedback: The Library values your feedback to help us improve the services we offer you. Comment cards are available from the Library counter and there is a comments box on the ground floor. We are happy to provide individual feedback so if you would like a personal response please provide an email address. Students can also email any feedback to libraryenquiries@marjon.ac.uk or pass comments onto staff. Students will be updated of feedback and suggestion from the You said, We Listened display board in the Library and through the annual Customer Feedback updates on the website. We have a whiteboard in the 1 st floor stairwell for you to leave written feedback, and for us to ask questions that we need feedback on.
