February 17, 2015 Support Grows For Medicaid Discussion Dear Member of the Missouri General Assembly: During the opening week of session, a letter was delivered to you listing hundreds of organizations calling for Medicaid reform in 2015. Since that time, more than 500 more have joined. Today, the 1,047 organizations listed below representing more than 1 million Missourians are calling for a conversation about the importance of Medicaid reform and expansion this session. Last month, Indiana received a waiver to move forward with an innovative state plan to reform their Medicaid program. In addition, Arkansas recently reviewed and extended its market-based approach to coverage. These states provide compelling examples of conservative leaders identifying and pursuing state-specific programs to solve the coverage gap problem while strengthening the health of their states. It is clear that other conservative states are having a conversation. Missouri has an opportunity to improve its Medicaid program this year. Throughout the past two years, Missouri legislators have worked hard to identify important policy initiatives that strengthen the program while improving the health of the state s residents. Missouri can move forward this session with a plan that works for our state. Missourians understand that inaction weakens our health care system and leads to higher costs. A Missouri-specific solution will ensure that our Medicaid program creates value for Missourians and reflects Missouri values.
