2 De to the economic and technical changes in railway and infrastrctre enterprises, there are increasing reqirements for track availability. As a reslt, maintenance and diagnostic systems are valed more than ever. The conversion to condition-oriented maintenance, continos remote diagnostics and mechanism to detect localised point failres instantaneosly and safely will be the crcial parameters for the economically conscios enterprise in the ftre. Maintenance and diagnostic systems are indispensable instrments for se as saving potentials. In order to optimise respective applications, decisions mst be made to which sections of the infrastrctre network shold be monitored in accordance to the sage type and demand of spervision. Modlarly developed diagnostic systems are capable of dealing with every sitation to find the best soltion. Trogh the combination and/or integration of modlar systems in sperordinated maintenance and management systems the optimisation of the cost-se relationship is easy to realise. VAE Eisenbahnsysteme GmbH since the early 80 s dealt intensively with the topic of remote diagnostics of stationary controls with the emphasis of switch diagnosis. The goal of the development was to improve and optimise track availability, early recognition and predictability of failres as well as the redction of the Life Cycle Costs. The collected know-how dring this development process led to a modlar, intelligent diagnostic system. This system is captivated by its expandable strctre and possibilities for adjstments to flfil all cstomized or installation-specific needs. Sensors with covers installed in a trnot

The range of variation necessitates a modlar system strctre. The VAE ROAD- MASTER 2000 is individally developed from a basic version p to a flly developed distance monitoring. Depending on the special conditions and cstomer s reqest, each switch can be eqipped with the economical version (VAE ROADMASTER 2000 Light) or extension of several parameters to a more comprehensive diagnosis (VAE ROADMASTER 2000 Advanced/Pro). The system s versatility makes optimisation of cost/se relationship a reality for the infrastrctre operator. The fnction of the VAE ROAD- MASTER 2000 is based on the evalation of measred data. This takes place in conjnction with the operation of intelligent software, which recognises errors at the switch before a distrbance occrs by comparing the data with reference vales. According to the otpt vales error messages are generated atomatically and transferred to the skilled personnel. In order to increase the accracy of error recognition and avoid nnecessary alarms, the reference vales are based on a highly developed algorithm which considers local conditions and weather-related changes. By many years of experience and know-how that forms the evalation software, it is garanteed that the system recognizes all initiating errors. This allows the infrastrctre operators to plan for repairs before distrbances even occr.

5 Depending on the special reqirements and conditions the VAE ROADMASTER 2000 system can be offered in three development stages. Light This version the diagnostic system evalates the crrent flow dring switch operation. The data are economically collected in a central signalling centre for several trnots. However if necessary the collection can also take place directly at the switch. Advanced With this adaptation a variety of different parameters are spervised. For this prpose varios sensors are installed directly at the trnot and connected to integrated electronic components in the diagnostic network Pro In addition to switch diagnosis, most stationary installations can be integrated into the system. This allows a wide range of monitoring fnctions possible by a system which is developed individally for smaller sections and/or entire railway lines. The combination of the different versions is possible and permits optimm design of the system for the individal reqirements of a modern railway company. The individal stages of development can be extended at any time by additional measring points. The modlar strctre ensres an optimal cost/se relationship with the se of the diagnostic system. 6 LIGHT This version of or trnot monitoring system represents the basics of the. In this case the switch point machine is sed as sensor for irreglarities in the switch. For the measrement of the crrent non-reactive crrent transformer are sed. With Light it is possible to economically spervise mltiple switches in a centralised signalling room. The measred local vales are then transferred for frther evalation to a central or local compter. If technically necessary, the collection of the data can also be made directly at the switch. In this case additional electronics components have to be attached. The transmission of data to the controlling station is adapted to the cstomised format. Varios soltions are possible from diverse wire transmission paths p to varios radio network systems. For data evalation the se of intelligent software is adapted according to the cstomer s needs. This system does not only recognise the initialised errors, bt also shows which switch components are affected. If necessary both the nmber of measring points and spervised parameters can be spplemented at any time. User interface and generating of alarms is the same for all versions and is described in more detail in the chapter User interface and Data Retrieval. 8 ADVANCED In this development stage sensors are installed directly in the trnots where mltiple critical parameters in the switches can be spervised. The nmber of spervised points are specified according the sitation and in coordination with the respective cstomer. The collected data from the switch will be transferred via acqisition electronics to the particlar evalation station. The transmission to the server room will be individally adapted to the cstomer s conditions. A variation of transmitting media can be sed from wire-bond p to radio network systems. The measred data will be evalated with appropriate evalation process, compared with reference vales to make the early recognition of errors possible. De to direct collection of the measred vales at the switch errors can be limited. This is by far more detailed and exact information compared to the Light version of. The sensors reqire no additional maintenance and are conceived in sch a way that they cannot have negative inflences on the switch. If necessary both the nmber of measring points and those of the spervised parameters can be at any time spplemented. User interface and generating of alarms is the same for all versions and is described in more detail in the chapter User interface and Data Retrieval. 10 Pro Implementation of this diagnostic system cold be extended to become the tool for monitoring all fixed installed assets along a specific length of a line or the whole line itself. The possibilities of monitored installations are nearly nrestricted from trnot heating systems p to crossings. measre additional vales and monitoring of other installations integrated later into the system. User interface and generating of alarms is the same for all versions and is described in more detail in the chapter User interface and Data Retrieval. Integration of additional Installations For this reason diagnostic information cold be gained directly with special sensors or if the installation itself has a self diagnostic system, information cold be read ot directly and be integrated into the VAE ROADMASTER 2000 Pro system. However it is also possible to integrate the trnot monitoring soltions offered in the Light or Advanced versions into the VAE ROADMASTER 2000 Pro version which is easily extendable to
11 Visalisation and data retrieval User interface and data retrieval cold be realised on a special workstation or it cold be integrated into an existing network as a client/ server soltion. Integration into the intranet makes information available in the whole network. Secre connection via web cold be sed and the se of mobile eqipment to access monitored data. Access cold be limited with passwords. All information and alarms are interpreted by the system and visalised in a ser-friendly environment for efficient operation. All information is sorted into an archive and the system generates trend crves over a period of time for analysis of developing conditions. In the case of dangeros sitation a signal alarm is immediately generated. With the trend crves the implications of maintenance works cold be analysed. Alarms generated by the system will be sent to the defined receiver before a failre occrs. With this information repair works cold be planned according to the priority of task. The system cold also be integrated into an existing maintenance and malfnction management systems and all alarms cold be handled within this tool. For notifying personnel there are varios possibilities, for example, by email or SMS or any new forms of commnication technologies. The possibility to get access detailed measred vales in case of an alarm, enable personnel to specify and locate the reasons for alarms especially in larger trnots. This cold redce time for failre repair dramatically. The ser interface cold be designed according to the cstomer s needs.
