EMC VNX Series Setting Up a Unisphere Management Station P/N REV. 02 April, 2014 This docment describes the different types of Unisphere management stations and tells how to install and configre software on each type. It also tells how to start Unisphere on a station rnning the Unisphere Client. Topics in this docment inclde: Unisphere management station overview...2 Types of Unisphere management stations...2 Software for each type of Unisphere management station... 4 Installing the reqired software...5 Configring a Unisphere Management Station...14 Initializing secrity for a Unisphere management station Adding a Unisphere management station to a domain Starting Unisphere on the Unisphere management station...16
Unisphere management station overview A Unisphere management station is a Microsoft Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, or Windows XP host that is connected to the system management ports throgh a network and is rnning any of the following VNX software: Unisphere Client for Windows EMC Unisphere Server for Windows Unisphere Host Agent for Windows EMC Secre Remote Spport (ESRS) IP Client for VNX software Unisphere Service Manager (USM) The ESRS IP Client for VNX and the Unisphere Server for Windows cannot coexist on the same server. A pre-installation check in the ESRS IP Client for VNX prevents installation of the ESRS IP Client for VNX on a system that already has the Unisphere Server installed on it. Table 1 Operating system spport for Unisphere management software Operating system WIndows 2012, Windows 2008, Windows server 2003 Windows XP Windows Vista Spported software All listed software Unisphere UIs, EMC Unisphere Server and USM Unisphere UIs and EMC Unisphere Server Depending on the type of Unisphere management station, yo may or may not be able to access the Unisphere UI from it. Yo can pdate a Unisphere management station with new VNX software withot reqiring a host reboot. Yo cannot pdate a system with new operating environment software, which incldes the Unisphere Client and EMC Unisphere Server, withot a system reboot. Types of Unisphere management stations The types of Unisphere management stations are: Fll-fnction station Remote ser station Domain member station Standalone performance station Event monitoring station or EMC Secre Remote Spport (ESRS) IP client 2 Setting Up a Unisphere Management Station
Fll-fnction station A fll-fnction station is a one-stop Unisphere management station becase it rns all software that can be installed on an Unisphere management station and performs all the fnctions that any other type of station can perform. From it yo can se Unisphere to: Manage a VNX system domain and mlti-domain environment Monitor system operations Monitor and adjst storage system performance A fll-fnction station shold be made part of a domain, and we recommend that it be the domain master so that a storage system is not brdened with performing the domain master tasks. We strongly recommend that yo do not connect an Unisphere management station that is rnning event monitor or ESRS to the system s data ports. Remote ser station or secre entry point station Domain member station A remote ser station or a secre entry point station is an off-array management station (a local host) that is connected to storage-system management ports throgh a network and is rnning only the Unisphere UIs. For a remote ser, this configration eliminates the overhead of accessing the UI from a storage system. For additional secrity, yo can limit management access to the system to only those athorized sers who have installed the client on their Windows host by disabling the ability to lanch the UIs from the system. A domain member station is a Unisphere management station that has been added to a Unisphere domain. Yo can make it the domain master, if yo want to offload a small amont of overhead from a storage system. Yo can se this station to add a storage system rnning a newer version of the EMC Unisphere Server and Unisphere UIs to a domain made p of storage systems rnning earlier versions. Legacy domains are comprised of CLARiiON systems rnning FLARE releases as old as Release 23 and Celerra systems rnning Dart 6.0. VNX domains are comprised of VNX systems. Since Legacy domains spport different ser roles and have a different strctre to their domain databases, VNX systems cannot join legacy domains and legacy systems cannot join VNX domains. However, yo can create a mlti-domain, which is comprised of both legacy and VNX domains. The EMC Unisphere Server and Unisphere UIs are part of the system s operating environment software (OE). The domain member station mst be rnning the latest EMC Unisphere Server and Unisphere UI versions or at least the same versions that are rnning on the storage system yo are adding to the domain. Withot a domain member station, yo mst Fll-fnction station 3
Standalone performance station Event monitor station or ESRS IP client pdate the OE software version rnning on one of the storage systems in the domain to get the latest or same version of the EMC Unisphere Server and Unisphere UIs. This pdate is more difficlt and disrptive than pdating the EMC Unisphere Server and Unisphere Client on a domain member station. A standalone performance station is an Unisphere management station sed mostly by a service provider to analyze system performance with Unisphere Analyzer and/or manage system qality of service with Unisphere Qality of Service Manager (QoS). Standalone stations can be sed to analyze archives from any VNX or legacy CLARiiON system. In a centralized event monitoring environment, a Unisphere management station can be a monitor station for Event Monitor or ESRS, sending alerts or atomatically notifying yor service provider when certain events occr. By offloading this work from one or more systems to a monitor station, yo can improve the performance of these systems. For a centralized event monitoring station, yo mst configre at least one event monitoring template. For an ESRS IP client, yo mst install the ESRS template. EMC strongly recommends that yo do not connect an Unisphere management station that is rnning event monitor or ESRS IP client to the system s data ports. Software for each type of Unisphere management station The table below lists the software yo mst install on each type of Unisphere management station. Table 2 Unisphere management station software Unisphere type Unisphere Client Unisphere Server Host Agent ESRS IPClient for VNX Unisphere Service Manger Remote ser station Secre entry point station Standalone performance station Yes No No No No Yes No No No No Yes Yes No No Optional Monitor station No No Yes No No ESRS IP Client for VNX No No No Yes No Host Agent is bndled with ESRS IP Client and does not reqire a separate installation. 4 Setting Up a Unisphere Management Station
Installing the reqired software Installing the EMC Unisphere Server This section describes how to install the reqired software on the Windows host that will be a Unisphere management station. This Windows host mst be on the same network as the system management ports. Follow the installation wizard instrctions. If the Unisphere management station that yo are setting p is an ESRS IP client, yo do not need to install the host agent becase it is installed atomatically as part of the ESRS installation. Yo need to install this software only on an Unisphere management station that yo are setting p as an event monitoring station. Procedre 1. Log in as the administrator or a ser who has administrative privileges. 2. If yor server is behind a firewall, open TCP/IP port This port is sed by the host agent. If this port is not opened, the host agent will not fnction properly. 3. Download the software. Installing the reqired software 5
a. From the EMC Online Spport website, locate the Spport section and the link to Software Downloads. b. Select the option to save the Unisphere Host Agent software to yor server. c. Doble-click one of the exectable files listed below to start the installation wizard. UnisphereHostAgent-Win-32-x86-en_US-versionbild.exe where version and bild are the version nmber and the bild nmber of the software. 4. Follow the instrctions on the installation screens to install the Unisphere Host Agent. If yo selected the defalt destination folder, the software is installed in the C: \Program Files\EMC\HostAgent (32 bit) or C:\Program Files (x86)\emc\hostagent (64 bit). Once the Unisphere Host Agent installation is complete, the Initialize Privileged User List dialog box is displayed. The Unisphere Host Agent software is installed on the Windows server. 5. In the Initialize Privileged User List dialog box, select Create/Overwrite File and browse to the agent.config file. Yo will then need to add sers to the Privileged User List (login names for this server). Only sers logged in as listed in the Privileged User List can send CLI commands to the storage system. Perform one of the following: If the Config File field contains a file entry, then a host agent configration file already exists on the server from a previos agent installation. Select Use Existing File to se this configration file or select Browse to se a different file. The host agent configration file contains a list of login names for this server. Only sers logged in as listed in the Privileged User List can send CLI commands to the storage system. If the Config File field does not contain a file entry, a host agent configration file does not exist on the server. Select Create/Overwrite File and browse to the agent.config file. Yo will then need to add sers to the Privileged User List (login names for this server). Only sers logged in as listed in the Privileged User List can send CLI commands to the storage system. There mst be at least one entry in the Privileged User List or an error message will appear. To add a ser to the list: a. Click Add to open the Add Privileged User dialog box. b. In the Add Privileged User dialog box, nder User Name, enter the person s accont sername, for example, Administrator. c. Under System Name, Unisphere (for example, Host4) and click OK. The program saves the host agent configration file with the new privileged ser entries and starts the host agent. 7. Click Finish. A command line window opens indicating that the host agent service is starting. 6 Setting Up a Unisphere Management Station
8. If yo are prompted to reboot the server, click Yes. Windows servers with NIC initiators If yo do not reboot before yo rn the Microsoft iscsi Software Initiator, the NIC initiators cannot log in to the storage system. 9. If yo pdated the host agent and were sing event monitor, restore the event monitor configration from a previosly copied Navimon.cfg file: a. Stop the agent: a. At the Windows server, log in as the administrator or the eqivalent. b. Open the Services pane. From the desktop, right-click My Compter and select Manage > Services and Applications > Services. or Select Start > Administrative Tools > Compter Management > Services and Applications > Services. The Services pane opens. c. In the Services pane, right-click Unisphere Host Agent and select Stop. d. If asked to confirm yor reqest to stop the agent service, click Yes, and close the Services pane or dialog box. b. Move or copy the saved Navimon.cfg to the real Navimon.cfg file. c. Start the agent: a. At the Windows server, log in as the administrator or the eqivalent. b. Open the Services pane. From the desktop, right-click My Compter and select Manage > Services and Applications > Services. or Select Start > Administrative Tools > Compter Management > Services and Applications > Services. The Services pane opens. c. In the Services pane, right-click Unisphere Host Agent and select Start. d. If yo want the host agent to start atomatically at system startp: Right-click Unisphere Host Agent and select Properties. The Unisphere Host Agent Properties dialog box opens. Select the General tab. In Startp Type, select Atomatic. The host agent will now start atomatically at system startp. e. Close Compter Management. It may take a few mintes for the host agent to start if either applications are sing the storage system or the SP event log is large and the host agent configration file is not set p. 10.Click Done to exit the installation wizard. 11.If yo have a mltihomed host (mltiple NIC cards installed on the host), create an agentid.txt file to ensre that the agent finds the correct NIC card. Install the Unisphere Host Agent 7
A mltihomed host machine has mltiple IP addresses connected to networks; it is physically connected to mltiple data links that can be on the same or different networks. When yo install Unisphere Host Agent on a mltihomed host, the host agent, by defalt, binds to the first NIC in the host. If yor host is mltihomed, for the host agent to sccessflly register with the desired system, yo need to configre the host agent to bind to a specific NIC. Yo do this by setting p an agentid.txt file. a. Using a text editor that does not add special formatting, create a file named agentid.txt (case sensitive). Save this file by doing one of the following: Set the EV_AGENTID_DIRECTORY environmental variable to the location yo want to save the agentid.txt file. The Unisphere Host Agent will then look for the agentid.txt file in the location yo specified. If yo do not specify a location in the EV_AGENTID_DIRECTORY environmental variable, Unisphere Host Agent will look for the agentid.txt file in the location specified by the registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \EMC\Agent\1.0\ConfigPath. This location is sally C:\Program Files\emc\HostAgent. If EV_AGENTID_DIRECTORY or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\EMC \Agent\1.0\ConfigPath does not exist, create the agentid.txt file in the C:\ directory. b. Add the following two separate lines to the agentid.txt file, with no special formatting: First line: Fllyqalified hostname of the host Second line: IP address of the NIC port that yo want host agent to se For example, if yor host is named host28 on the domain mydomain.com and yor host contains two NICs, HBA1/NIC1 with IP address and HBA2/NIC2 with IP address , and yo want the host agent to se NIC 2, yo wold configre agentid.txt as follows: host28.mydomain.com The agentid.txt file shold contain only these two lines, withot any formatting. The first line shold contain the hostname and the second line shold contain the IP address of the NIC port as described above. Both lines shold end with a carriage retrn. As a reslt, the crsor will be on a third line bt this line shold not contain any text. c. Save the agentid.txt file. d. Restart the host agent. 8 Setting Up a Unisphere Management Station e. Once the host agent has restarted, verify that the host agent is sing the correct IP address that is entered in the agentid.txt file by doing one of the following: In Unisphere, verify that the host IP address is the same as the IP address that yo entered in the agentid.txt file. If the address is the same, the agentid.txt file is configred correctly.
Installing the ESRS IP Client for VNX ESRS IP Client reqirements View the new HostIdFile.txt file. Yo shold see the IP address that is entered in the agentid.txt file. 12.Verify that Unisphere Host Agent is installed sing the Add/Remove Programs dialog box. 13.Create and apply any Event Monitor templates. Yo can access and download the ESRS IP Client UI-based installer wizard from either the EMC Online Spport website. Refer to the EMC Serviceability Release s for the latest ESRS IP Client environment and systems reqirements. The version of ESRS IP Client software mst be at or later than the version of the management software bndled with the VNX Operating Environment (OE) rnning on each VNX for block or legacy system that is being monitored. Also, legacy Celerra systems are not spported by ESRS IP Client; only VNX for file/nified is spported. ESRS IP Client installation reqires: Monitor station: The monitor station mst be a host or virtal machine with one or more CPUs at a minimm speed of 2.2 GHz, mst be SSE and/or SSE2 spported, have a total physical memory size of 2 GB or greater and 1 GB of hard disk space, mst be rnning a spported Windows operating system, have the.net Framework version 2.0 installed, and se JRE revision 6.0 pdate 29 or later for 32-bit system (JRE for 32-bit system is also reqired for 64-bit Windows). The monitor station cannot be a client (host connected to storage-system data ports), and the monitored systems mst be able to connect to it over yor network. Also, the ESRS IP Client for VNX and the Unisphere Server for Windows cannot coexist on the same server. A preinstallation check in the ESRS IP Client for VNX prevents installation of the ESRS IP Client for VNX on a system that already has the Unisphere Server installed on it. For more information abot the monitor station, refer to the Setting Up a Unisphere Management Station for the VNX Series docment. For the latest list of spported Windows operating systems, refer to the EMC Serviceability Release s. If yo do not have an existing monitor station Yo can create a monitor station by installing ESRS IP Client on a Windows host. If yo have an existing monitor station rnning CLARalert (precrsor to ESRS IP Client for VNX) Yo can pgrade to the ESRS IP Client on the monitor station. If yo have an existing monitor station rnning event monitor Yo can install the ESRS IP Client on the monitor station. Fixed or static IP address: The monitor station mst have a fixed or static IP address. If dynamic host control protocol (DHCP) is sed, yo mst configre a reserved IP address. The ESRS IP Client wizard atomatically detects and configres the ESRS IP Client with the IP address for the monitor station, which is reqired for the ESRS IP Client installation. Installing the ESRS IP Client for VNX 9
Open TCP Ports from the monitor station to yor service provider: The monitor station ses the following TCP ports to connect to yor service provider: TCP port 443 (for HTTPS, otbond) TCP port 8443 (for HTTPS, otbond); not reqired for fnctionality, however withot this port being opened there will be a significant decrease in remote spport performance. Open TCP Ports from the monitor station to yor storage systems: The monitor station ses the following TCP ports to connect to the storage systems: TCP port 80 (for HTTP, inbond/otbond) TCP port 443 (for HTTPS, inbond/otbond) TCP port 25 (for the SMTP server, otbond) TCP port 6389 (for the Unisphere Host Agent, inbond/otbond) TCP port 5414 (for the EMCRemote Client, otbond) TCP port 9519 (for RemotelyAnywhere on VNX OE for block or legacy systems, otbond) TCP port 6391, 6392, and (for the Remote Diagnostic Agent, otbond) TCP port 22 (for the CLI with SSH) TCP port (for KTCONS) TCP port 22 and 9519 (for RemoteKtrace) TCP port 80, 443, 2162, 2163, and 8000 (for Unisphere Service Manager, Unisphere, and Navisphere Secre CLI) Proxy server: If the monitor station connects to the Internet throgh a proxy server, yo mst indicate this dring the ESRS IP Client installation and provide the IP address, port, and protocol (HTTPS or SOCKS) for the proxy server. If the proxy server reqires athentication (SOCKS is spported only with athentication), yo mst also indicate this dring installation and spply login credentials for the proxy server. Yo mst spply both a sername and password for athentication. EMC Online Spport accont: Yo mst have an existing EMC Online Spport accont. Yo are reqired to log in to the EMC Online Spport website at Spport.EMC.com and spply yor valid storage-system serial nmber before yo can download and install the ESRS IP Client software. Registered monitoring site: The monitoring site mst be registered on EMC Online Spport. Dring the ESRS IP Client installation, yo mst specify contact information that incldes the name, address and phone nmber of a person to contact at the monitoring site. Download and install ESRS IP Client software Yo can access and download the ESRS IP Client UI-based installer wizard from the EMC Online Spport website. Use the wizard to download and configre all the ESRS IP Client software components reqired to set p a centralized monitoring environment for yor VNX and legacy systems. Before yo begin 10 Setting Up a Unisphere Management Station Do not install the ESRS IP client for VNX on an ESRS gateway server. Before installing the ESRS IP client for VNX on a Windows 7 host with the Windows firewall enabled, ensre TCP/IP port 6389 is open. TCP/IP port 6389 mst be open to allow the Unisphere Host Agent to fnction properly. If TCP/IP port 6389 is blocked, the installation will fail becase the client will not be able to commnicate with the target storage systems. The HostAgent.exe is located at C:\Program Files\EMC\HostAgent
\HostAgent.exe for 32 bit Windows versions and C:\Program Files (x86)\emc \HostAgent\HostAgent.exe for 64 bit Windows versions. Also, the ESRS IP Client for VNX and the Unisphere Server for Windows cannot coexist on the same server. A pre-installation check in the ESRS IP Client for VNX will prevent installation of the ESRS IP Client for VNX on a system that already has the Unisphere Server installed on it. If this is the case, ninstall the Unisphere Server before installing the ESRS IP Client for VNX. The ESRS IP Client for VNX ses the presence of the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\EMC\ManagementServer to determine if the Unisphere Server is installed. If that key is not removed by the Unisphere Server ninstaller, it can prevent the ESRS IP Client for VNX from being installed. Yo can delete the key from the registry by sing regedit command and then yo shold be able to install the ESRS IP Client for VNX. From the monitor station: Procedre 1. Go to the EMC Online Spport website at and locate the Download page and the link to download the ESRS IP Client for VNX software. 2. Select Download ESRS IP Client and save the software to yor monitor station. 3. In the folder where yo saved the ESRS IP Client, doble-click the ESRS IP Client exectable file or if necessary, right-click the file and select Rn as to rn the installation wizard sing a different ser's credentials. 4. Follow the steps in the wizard to complete the installation. For VNX OE for block and legacy systems that are deployed in this ESRS IP Client configration, yo mst add the monitor station IP address to the RemotelyAnywhere filter tables of those systems. See Add monitor station to RemotelyAnywhere IP address filter tables on page 11 for detailed information. Reslts For a list of the IP address names verified for HTTPS connectivity dring the preinstallation checks, see Verify HTTPS connectivity dring pre-installation on page 13. Also, the ESRS IP Client software installation generates for log files. Two of these log files (esrsagent_installer.log and esrsipclient_installer.log) are located nder the ser's home directory in the EMC\ESRSIPClient folder. The other two logs, esrs_rscapi.log, and esrs_jema.log, are located in the directory where the ESRS IP Client is installed. The esrs_rscapi.log log is created for VNX for block registrations only. The esrs_jema.log log is created for VNX for file registrations only. Add monitor station to RemotelyAnywhere IP address filter tables Perform this procedre for VNX OE for block and legacy systems in this ESRS IP Client configration. By defalt, this featre adds an always-on, additional layer of secrity that restricts the se of remote service tools to the system's service ports. Administrators and secrity administrators can extend remote service tool access to a system's management ports by entering the IP addresses of the attached, trsted service clients. Installing the ESRS IP Client for VNX 11
For IPv6 configrations, temporary private addresses are disabled on the system by defalt. EMC strongly recommends that yo also disable them on the client system. Procedre 1. Enter the SP A or SP B IP address or hostname in a spported browser address field and append the setp page path to the IP address or hostname, for example, address/setp or The SP setp login page opens. 2. Enter the system Navisphere Manager or Unisphere administrator access sername and password. The SP setp page opens. 3. Scroll down to Set RemotelyAnywhere Access Restriction and click the name panel to open the page. System secrity mst be enabled and configred before yo can access the Set RemotelyAnywhere Access Restriction IP address filter table. The IP Filter Configration for RemotelyAnywhere page opens. 4. Verify that yor monitor station IP address is entered in the IP address filter tables. 5. Enter yor monitor station IP address in the Filters that apply to all storage systems in the domain inpt table. Yo can enter p to 16 RemotelyAnywhere (RA) client addresses into the inpt tables. At this time yo cannot enter address ranges or complete sbnets into the inpt tables. Entering RA client addresses into the Connected storage system only inpt table does not propagate those addresses to VNX OE for block and legacy systems in the domain. Use the Connected storage system only inpt table if yo do not want to propagate the data to other systems in the domain. Using the Filters that apply to all storage systems in the domain inpt table will propagate the RA client address yo entered to VNX OE for block and legacy systems in the domain. 6. Click Apply Setting. Updating the IP filter tables will reset any existing RA connections. The RemotelyAnywhere IP Filter Configration - Confirmation page opens. 7. Click Apply Settings. The following text message shold appear: RemotelyAnywhere IP Filter reqest was sccessfl. The RemotelyAnywhere IP Filter Configration - Apply page opens. 12 Setting Up a Unisphere Management Station
8. Click Back. The main setp page appears. 9. Click Logot and close the browser. 10.If yo entered the monitor station IP address in the Connected storage system only filter table, repeat these steps for VNX OE for block and legacy systems in the domain of this ESRS IP Client configration. Verify HTTPS connectivity dring pre-installation The ESRS IP Client installer wizard verifies the following IP address names for HTTPS connectivity dring pre-installation: EMC Registration: ESRS Core (for gateway pings): Global access server: Installing the Unisphere Service Manager HTTPS connectivity is reqired for the ESRS core and ESRS UI IP address names and at least for of the global access server IP address names. EMC recommends that all the global access server IP address names listed above shold be accessible for HTTPS connectivity. The Unisphere Service Manager (USM) is a Java-based desktop application that helps yo pdate, install, and maintain yor system hardware and software, and provide contact and system information to yor service provider. Use the wizards within the USM to perform hardware installation tasks, sch as adding a new disk drive or disk-array enclosre, or hardware maintenance tasks, sch as replacing Installing the Unisphere Service Manager 13
a falted disk drive or verifying that yor storage system is operating normally. Yo can also se the USM to pdate yor system software. Downloading and installing the Unisphere Service Manager If yo do not already have USM installed on yor Windows management station, download and install the latest version: Procedre 1. From the EMC Online Spport website, select Downloads. The Downloads page appears. 2. In the Find a Prodct search field, enter yor VNX model nmber and click Enter. A list of the available downloads for the VNX Series appears. 3. From download list, select the Unisphere Service Manager link and save the software to yor host or management station. 4. In the folder where yo saved the USM, doble-click the exectable (.exe) file. 5. Follow the instrctions that appear. After yo accept the license agreement, the wizard verifies that the host or management station is rnning the latest spported Java Rntime Environment (JRE) version. If the server is rnning an earlier version of the JRE, select Yes when asked if yo want to contine with the installation. The installation wizard prompts yo to download and install the latest spported version of the JRE from the Oracle website. If the server is rnning a later version of the JRE, the installation wizard asks if yo want to contine with the installation. Select Yes to contine or No to qit the installation. NOTICE If yo select Yes, the USM may not work properly with a later JRE version. If yo select No, and manally remove the later version of the JRE, other applications that reqire this version may not work properly. 6. When the installation is complete, click Done. Configring a Unisphere Management Station Procedre 1. Open a new Internet browser and enter the appropriate rl below: If a web server sch as IIS is rnning on the Unisphere management station, yo cannot se standard ports to access Unisphere. Yo mst specify the ports that Unisphere defines by entering the following rl: If a web server is not rnning on the Unisphere management station, enter the following rl: The Management Server Networking Configration dialog box opens. 2. Verify the following: IP to listen on lists the IP address(es) of the server. 14 Setting Up a Unisphere Management Station
If yo have mltiple LAN cards or ports, select one of the IP addresses from the drop-down list or se the defalt IP address. Management Ports lists the ports of the server that are available for commnication. 3. Click Apply Settings so the Management Server recognizes the IP address. Initializing secrity for a Unisphere management station Procedre 1. In the Internet browser, enter the IP address of the Unisphere management station. This IP address is the same IP address listed in IP to listen on when yo configred the Unisphere management station. The Confirm: Unisphere Secrity dialog box opens. 2. Click Yes to set the secrity. The Create Global Administrator dialog box opens. 3. Enter a sername and password, and click OK. 4. In the Confirm: Add User? dialog box, click Yes to add the new ser. 5. In the Sccess: Initialize Secrity dialog box, click OK. 6. In Unisphere, log in as the global administrator sing the accont that yo jst created (File > Login). Adding a Unisphere management station to a domain When adding a Unisphere management station to a domain, EMC strongly recommends making the station the domain master, so the storage system does not have to perform the domain master tasks. Procedre 1. Start Unisphere on the Unisphere management station. 2. Log in as the global administrator. 3. Use Unisphere, as described in the manager help, to: a. Configre the Unisphere management station as a domain master. b. Create a domain or configre a mlti-domain environment to which yo will add yor storage systems. Initializing secrity for a Unisphere management station 15
Starting Unisphere on the Unisphere management station Starting Unisphere sing a browser Yo can start Unisphere on any management station that has the Unisphere UIs installed on it. That is, on all types of stations except for a monitor station or an ESRS station. Start Unisphere sing a browser, the Unisphere icon on the station s desktop, or the path Start > All Programs > EMC > Unisphere > Unisphere Management UI. If yo want to connect to the station sing a connection type other than the station s IP address, yo mst se the Unisphere icon. Procedre 1. Start a spported browser, sch as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Firefox. 2. In the browser, enter the IP address or host name of the Unisphere management station. Starting Unisphere sing the Unisphere icon Procedre 1. On the Unisphere management station s desktop, doble-click the Unisphere icon. 2. Enter the Unisphere management station s IP address and click Connect. 16 Setting Up a Unisphere Management Station
