1 Introduction NexeTalk Telephone Interconnect NexeTalk Telephone Interconnect is an integral part of NexeTalk Suite. It is also possible to install NTI as a standalone application. The telephone gateway allows calls between Nexedge radio users and telephone subscribers. In Diagram 1, you can see a typical scheme of a Nexedge radio network. The network can include any number of Kenwood Nexedge sites and groups of users. Figure 1-1 NTI in a Nexedge Radio System Originally, connecting radio and telephone subscribers would require additional hardware linked to a Nexedge repeater and an analog telephone line. Such a solution could be difficult to implement because of necessity to have an available analog telephone line. On top of that, in case the repeater failed, making calls between radios and phones was impossible. Finally, each telephone line would need a separate device.
NexeTalk Telephone Interconnect NTI is an IP-based software module that makes connection between radios and phones much more comfortable and cost-effective. It does not require any additional hardware. NTI connects to telephone lines via SIP 2.0 capable PBXs. Analog PBXs may need a hardware adapter supporting SIP. In Diagram 1, internal phones are connected to the PBX, either via analogue or digital lines. The PBX allows making internal calls and connecting internal telephones to the PSTN. Telephones from the PSTN can also access internal phones via the PBX. NTI interacts with the PBX by means of the SIP 2.0 protocol and acts as another internal telephone with its own extension. To call a radio, a telephone user dials the NTI extension to access the IVR menu. Then he is able to reach a particular radio or talk group by following the below instructions.
