Custom-tailored equipment, commissioning and service are our hallmark. The company s unique and unified global process and project management is second to none in the industry. This unique quality is based on an integrated approach that combines customer orientation and innovative technologies. Target-oriented management and awareness of and commitment to quality, risk minimization, health, safety and environmental protection results in the flawless execution in each and every step of the realization of a hydro project. Each employee is committed to this philosophy. Building, as well as operation and maintenance of hydro power plants are highly complex issues. Efficiency and economics of engineering and manufacturing, installation and commissioning of hydro power plant equipment is done worldwide with cross-facility project management. Global connection and understanding The internationality of Voith Hydro s business activities is reflected in its global positioning providing unique solutions in a uniform and consistent manner. With 20 engineering and manufacturing units Voith Hydro is always close to its customers in the major hydro markets of the world. Additionally, a Research and Development network is globally connected and locally available for the most advanced technology in hydro power equipment. These units work together through a unique process management book called Blue Book, to achieve a seamless meshing understanding of complex component design, manufacturing, commissioning and operation. Process administration is based on a globally uniform system of tools, databases and information systems. The Integrated Management System (IMS) within the Blue Book comprises all risk and quality issues, as well as environmental protection and occupational health and safety within the working arena of Voith Hydro s operating units and project sites. Basic principles of the management system Our customers have confidence in our ability to provide excellent products and services due to our commitment to quality and risk mitigation. These two principles are key to the future success of Voith Hydro. Through quality and risk mitigation we fulfill our customers long-term requirements and expectations. We closely cooperate with our suppliers and partners in order to achieve this. Quality and risk mitigation are jobs that concern every operation of the entire group: this includes each and every service rendered by our company and all associated processes. Management of technical risks and quality is a management task and an important part of our management concept. Every manager strives to enhance the quality-consciousness of the members of his or her organization. Each employee is responsible for the avoidance of risk and for the quality of his or her contribution to the total output of the company. The status of the management system of each company of Voith Hydro is evaluated by regular management reviews as well as internal and external audits. 6 7
Environmental protection Protection of the environment is a crucial issue, even though hydro power is a clean and low-emission form of energy generation. Voith Hydro offers solutions in two dimensions. Environmental protection of all kinds in sites and project execution, and in technical solutions for enhanced water quality through technologies such as aerating runners and fish-friendly patented machines or water-lubricated and oil-free components. In accordance with our corporate values enhanced environmental protection includes: Carrying out regular reviews of our company s activities, assessing whether they are in accordance with our environmental policies, our principles of adhering to all current legal requirements and regulations, and of continuously improving our corporate environmental program. Protection of the environment and disposing of harmful waste by observing special methods. Should this be impossible, environmentally harmful emissions, waste, noise and use of energy and resources must be continuously decreased. Relevant measures will be based on the best available economically feasible technologies. We aim to recycle waste materials and ensure that they are transported and disposed of correctly. Taking all measures necessary in order to prevent failures and accidents which might damage the environment, or limiting their effects as much as possible. Taking precautions which guarantee that the contractors who work on our premises apply the same environmental rules and regulations as we do.
Occupational health and safety It is of major concern to Voith Hydro to ensure both the safety of its own employees as well as that of employees of companies that are involved in our processes. Consequently, occupational health and safety are integrated into the existing management system, which is in accordance with the applicable international standards and laws in force. The following is binding for all employees: The points established in the management system and their implementation are obligatory for all Voith Hydro managers and staff. Voith Hydro s personnel undergoes regular occupational health and safety training. A principal cornerstone of occupational health and safety is the implementation of these standards by the managers, safety officers and those responsible for regular industrial briefings regarding dangers and accidents. The identification of workplace hazards and the causes of damage and accidents are intended to avoid or minimize excessive injuries to the employees, as well as to prevent repeated occurrences. 8 9
Implementation and documentation All of our principles are implemented in the management system of each company of Voith Hydro. The system creates the general organizational, staff-related and technical conditions and ensures that suitable methods and instruments are applied. The objectives of this management system are to sustain customer satisfaction, profitability and employee satisfaction. The management system is structured according to ISO Standard 9001 and its according standards ISO 14001 (Environment) and OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety). In general, customer satisfaction takes precedence over competition policies. This strategic approach sets the standard in a business where we want to be our customers long-term partners. The management system is documented in company-specific manuals, including the associated instructions for each process. These contain a description of the objectives, strategies and processes which, measured against the expectations and requirements of our customers, have a particular influence. Cooperation in a spirit of partnership and the dedication to joint solutions at a high level, but also dynamic development, stability and continuity this all sets Voith Hydro apart. And will guarantee the successful future of the company and its partners. To ensure successful customer relationships, our documentation structure is based on continuous commitment loops among all staff involved in a project.
Global certification An independent certification by an authorized body gives further confidence to our customers that our organization is managed in a systematic manner, and that projects are handled with care and professionalism according to a proven system. Our global certification is based on wellknown international standards for quality management (ISO 9001), environmental protection (ISO 14001), as well as occupational health and safety (OHSAS 18001). All Voith Hydro locations are in complete compliance with these three standards, handle all processes in an identical way, and are formally certified under one unique certification. This certification is an important driver and safeguards constant, reciprocal conditions over defined periods of time in order to guarantee a stable quality level in all phases and fields of our activities.
