DIGITAL LITERACY FOR MOBILE PHONES MODULE 5: VOICE RECORDER AND CALENDAR ACTIVITY 1 LANGUAGE Match the word to the meaning. The first one is done. 1 volume to store sounds so that you can listen to them later 2 record to stop the recording for a short time before starting again 3 save sound produced by a radio, television etc 4 pause to remove something that has been stored 5 resume to make an electronic device keep the work you have done on it 6 cancel to move quickly to a later point in a recording, without playing it 7 delete to stop an action without completing or saving 8 trim to start the recording again after a pause 9 Fast forward to make neater or shorter by cutting off beginning or end of recording ACTIVITY 2 GETTING TO KNOW THE RECORDING FUNCTION Part 1 Recording Functions Match the actions in the box below with the sets of icons/words from the Recording function screens. Not every mobile phone recorder is the same. Some have more functions. MODULE 5: VOICE RECORDER AND CALENDAR DIGITAL LITERACY FOR MOBILE PHONES ACTIVITY 2 GETTING TO KNOW THE RECORDING FUNCTION Part 2 Listening & Sharing Once you have made a recording, you can listen to it and do some other things too. Look at these icons below and answer the questions. a What is the difference between Delete and Cancel? b Write down as many ways as you can think of to share a voice a voice memo. Work in pairs. ACTIVITY 4 PRACTICE Pair up with a classmate who does not speak the same language as you. Tell your partner what language you speak. Go to the recording function on your phone. Swap phones with your partner. Record Hello and Goodbye in your first language on your partner s phone. Take your phone back, and listen to the recording your partner made. Practise saying the words aloud. To show that you have learnt the words, next class greet your partner in their language! ACTIVITY 5 RECORDING A DIALOGUE Part 1 Starting Out Use the prompts to make your own dialogue with a classmate. Practise by taking turns in each part. Don t write anything at this stage. When you are confident, record yourselves on your phones. In the Column Word, write the word that matches the meaning. MODULE 5: VOICE RECORDER AND CALENDAR DIGITAL LITERACY FOR MOBILE PHONES ACTIVITY 8 MOBILE PHONE CALENDAR/PLANNER Part 1 Functions In pairs or small groups, go to the calendar/planner on your mobile phone and show: what you do to change views (year, month, week, day). Use words like tap, double tap, pinch and stretch etc what different options of events your phone offers (event, task, meeting, reminder, call, birthday, anniversary?) how you view a list of appointments/events/reminders how you search for an appointment/event/reminder what you do to add an event/activity to your calendar what you do to set an alert reminder an hour before the event. Note that not all phones will have all of these features. On your calendar, show what you do to add a repeat to the event. Write some examples of the sorts of events you would add a repeat to. 1...everyday. 2...every weekday (Mon Fri). 3...every week. 4...every 2 weeks. 5...every month. 6...every year. ACTIVITY 8 MOBILE PHONE CALENDAR/PLANNER Part 2 Adding an event 1 Follow your teacher s instructions and dictation. 2 Add a relative s birthday. Add a repeat to the event. 3 In pairs, take turns to dictate to your partner the date of and important national day or holiday in the country you were born in. Remember to speak clearly so that your partner adds the correct information (name of the day, date etc) to their calendar. 8 8 ACFE/AMES 2014
