Ali Sadeghi, Project Director Ostlänken East Link Project Sara Distner, Project Director Gothenburg-Borås Project Gothenburg-Borås Project 1 2014-06-04

The Swedish government has decided upon a National Transport Plan 2014-2025 It includes the beginning of a new highspeed network for passenger transports built for trains running at up to 320 km per hour Constructions starts with the East Link (Stockholm-Linköping) and Gothenburg- Borås stretches 2 2014-06-04

The Southern and Western Main Lines are extremely busy Mixed traffic including long distance, regional, commuter och freight trains Capacity is limited by the different speeds 3 2014-06-04

If all trains on a track operates with the same speed, capacity increases significantly Applies primarily to commuter trains in large cities and new tracks for fast passenger trains Maintenance costs will be lower than if the tracks would also carry a mix of fast and heavy trains 4 2014-06-04

Economically most profitable to build high-speed rail for speeds up to 320 km per hour The additional cost to build for speeds up to 320 km per hour is expected to be relatively limited compared to building for 250 or 280 km per hour 5 2014-06-04

Ostlänken - East Link Project Part of Sweden s first high speed railway A link in a sustainable transport system ensuring that more people can reach their destination in a smooth, green and secure way.

150 km of new double-track railway between Stockholm/Järna and Linköping Part of Sweden s first high-speed railway for trains running at up to 320 km per hour Connects to the existing railway network in both ends but is also a link in a new high-speed network The East Link is calculated to cost approximately SEK 35,5 billion (price level 2013) 7 2014-06-04

The East Link is planned to operate between Stockholm/Järna and Linköping in east Sweden The line passes through three counties Five municipalities are affected Five stations are planned The East Link connects with the main line network in three different spots 8 2014-06-04

12 single-track tunnels and15 double-track tunnels are planned. A total of some 20 km in tunnels. 155 railway bridges and 29 road bridges are planned. Total bridge length approximately 10 km. The design of the link will be determined in 10 railway plans. The East Link will be equipped with ERTMS. 9 2014-06-04

metropolitan areas The East Link gives faster journeys between the metropolitan regions Higher speeds 320 km per hour A more direct route than today s lines Stockholm-Linköping on the hour which enhances commuting opportunities The East Link is also a link in a future new high-speed railway from Stockholm to Gothenburg via Jönköping the vision is a travel time of 2 hours Faster journeys Stockholm-Malmö/Copenhagen 10 2014-06-04

regional expansion Ostlänken gives more flexible work commuting regional expansion The travel centres are planned to be built in accessible locations Frequent services will be possible as a result of new double tracks Attractive travel times thanks to a straighter route alignment and high speed Easier to combine work, studies and living 11 2014-06-04

2014 Work starts on the Railway Plans 2017-2021 Successive construction start-up 2028 Trains begin to run on the entire Ostlänken 2010 Rail Surveys completed 12 2014-06-04

13 2014-06-04

14 2014-06-04 Project

A 60 km new double-track high-speed railway between West Sweden s largest cities Creates more effective travel opportunities regionally as well as on the stretch of line from Stockholm Gothenburg via Jönköping Project budget is approximately SEK 15 billion (2008 price levels) Construction is planned to start in 2020 15 2014-06-04

16 2014-06-04 INQUIRY AREA

the big five More effective regional travel between the two largest cities in West Sweden Creates opportunities for regional growth Improves communications to Göteborg Landvetter Airport the second largest airport in Sweden A link in a new high-speed network between Stockholm and Gothenburg via Jönköping Offloads the Western Main Line 17 2014-06-04
