Together with her husband Edmund, Maybanke Susannah Anderson built Maybanke in 1882. The house was converted into flats in the 1930 s and they are restoring it into a family home. Maybanke Susannah Anderson was a woman of passion, and a woman of her words and writings. She was an educator, a foundation vice- president of the Womanhood Suffrage League of NSW and President in 1893-96. She was a powerfully independent woman, after divorcing her husband in 1892. She was empowered to become a member of the Women s Literary Society, and later the founder and secretary- treasurer of the Australasian Home Reading Union.
And she published and edited her own fortnightly paper, Women s Voice. To think that this wonderfully inspirational woman lived in Naomi s house all those years ago is something that Naomi is proud of.
