Changing Office Display Language If you have a Language Interface Pack for Microsoft Office installed, then you can switch the user interface of Microsoft Office to a different language. To do this: 1. Launch any Microsoft Office application 2. Click on the File (PL: Plik) menu and select the Options (PL: Opcje) item 3. Click the Language (PL: Język) tab 4. Under Choose Display and Help Languages (PL: Wybieranie języków wyświetlania i Pomocy), select the language you want to switch to and click Set as default (PL: Ustaw jako domyślny) button. Do this both with the Display Language (PL: język wyświetlania) and Help Language (PL: Język Pomocy) lists. 5. Restart all Microsoft Office applications for the changes to take effect. 3. Text Formatting Text formatting tools (EN)
Text formatting tools (PL) Exercise Write several lines of text, format every line using: bold, italics, underline, strikeout, double strikeout and various font styles. Using subscripts (PL: indeksy górne) and superscripts (PL: indeksy dolne) write several expressions like: x 2 = 6, H 2 SO 4, etc. Change text color and/or background color. Write a new, unformatted line of text. Copy formatting from previously formatted text using Format Painter (PL: malarz formatów). 4. Styles Text formatting can be easily changed using styles. To apply a new style, select a fragment of text and choose text style from Styles (PL: Style) list available on the Home (PL: Narzędzia główne) tab. To see a list of available styles click a down arrow on the styles panel. Styles panel (EN). Click the arrow marked by a red circle to see a list of available styles. Styles panel (PL). If you point the mouse cursor at a style button, current paragraph of text (or selected text) will be temporarily formatted using the selected style.
You can modify styles by choosing the Modify (PL: Modyfikuj) from a context menu available after right-clicking any style button. Exercise Write several paragraphs of text, each having a title. Format the titles and text in the paragraphs using the Style (PL: Style) palette. Try to modify styles using Modify (PL: Modyfikuj) command. 5. Title Numbering / Numbered Lists / Multilevel Lists All titles formatted using a given style can be numbered by modifying the style using the Modify (PL: Modyfikuj) from a context menu available after right-clicking any style button. Individual elements (e.g. lines of text) can be numbered using the Numbering (PL: Numerowanie) tool. Numbering tool (EN) Numbering tool (PL) Several lines of text (or paragraphs) can be numbered by selecting them all and then selecting a numbered list format from the Numbering (PL: Numerowanie) tool.
Numbering several paragraphs at once A list of numbered elements at several nested levels can be created using the Multilevel List (PL: Lista wielopoziomowa) tool. Multilevel list tool Nesting level within the list (which affects the numbering level and format) can be changed by pressing the Decrease Indent (PL: Zmniejsz wcięcie) and Increase indent (PL: Zwiększ wcięcie) buttons. Example of a multilevel list: 1) Aaaaaaaaaa a) Bbbbbbbbbb i) Cccccccccccc (1) Dddddddddd Custom multilevel list formats can be defined using the Define New Multilevel List (PL: Definiuj nową listę wielopoziomową) and Define New List Style (PL: Definiuj nowy styl listy) menu commands. Use the first one to create a multilevel list from the selected fragment of text and use the second one to define a new multilevel list style that can be used at a later time. The Change List Level (PL: Zmień poziom listy) command can be used to directly select which list level should be assigned to a paragraph. This command can be used instead of clicking the Decrease Indent (PL: Zmniejsz wcięcie) or Increase indent (PL: Zwiększ wcięcie) button several times. Exercise Write several paragraphs of text. Using built-in formats of multilevel lists format these paragraphs so that they are numbered first using 1),2), 3), 4), then using I), II), III), IV) and then using a), b), c), d). Using options available in the Define New Multilevel List (PL: Definiuj nową listę wielopoziomową) dialog box change the numbering so that the second level of the list is numbered continuously or starting from the beginning in each first-level item. Hint: use the More>> (PL: Więcej>>) button in this dialog box to see more options. 6. Finding and Replacing Text Commands for finding and replacing text are available under Home Editing (PL: Narzędzia główne Edytowanie). Commands for finding and replacing text (EN: left, PL: right) The drop-down menu for the Find (PL: Znajdź) icon includes the Go To (PL: Przejdź do ) option which can be used to go to a specified page, section, row, bookmark, footnote, comment, equation, etc. All three commands (i.e. Find, Replace and Go To) use the same dialog box for entering parameters. In this dialog box you can press the More > (PL: Więcej >) button to view additional options such as case-sensitive matching, matching of whole words only. You can also turn on using of wildcards, such as: * any string, including an empty one? exactly one character More wildcards are available under the Special (PL: Specjalne) button in the same dialog box. The Format (PL: Formatuj) button allows selecting the formatting that the text you look for must have (e.g. you can look only for red text). To activate these commands you can also use keyboard shortcuts: CTRL+F for Find, CTRL+H for Replace, CTRL+G for Go To. Exercise Write a few sentences, each in a new line, e.g.: The quick brown fox jumps over a lazy dog. Pack my box with five dozen liquor jugs. Jackdaws love my big sphinx of quartz. 1 Find all occurrences of the word my. Replace the fox with a bear. Merge all lines of text into one by replacing end-of-line characters with spaces. Then, use text replacing again to return to the original situation (don t use the Undo option ). 1 These are examples of pangrams in english (i.e.: sentences that contain all letters of the alphabet)
