STRUCTURE OF DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION IN THE UNIVERSITY Creation of the PACODEL in 2012 - Headquarters in Gembloux Presidency assumed by a Professor from Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech (at present: Prof. Jan Bogaert) Bureau constituted of 13 faculty member, from different research sectors Different missions devoted to the centre: 1. Promote teaching and research towards developing countries 2. Mobilise the expertise for interventions and partnerships 3. Contribute to the dialogue with developing countries 4. Host students and researchers from these countries
STRUCTURE OF DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION IN THE UNIVERSITY Support to professors regarding development cooperation Diffusion of information (call for proposals ) Help in the redaction of projects (at Belgian or European level) Follow-up for decisions taken by the Bureau Different activities organised: Information sessions about the PACODEL activities and developing countries Participation in Erasmus Mundus Projects with African partners: ACP Mundus, ANGLE, DREAM, etc. Organisation of an international seminar in December 2013 «Development Day» in December 2014 Etc.
AN INSTITUTIONAL PROJECT: PLATFORM IN CENTRAL AFRICA (KINSHASA) Creation of a permanent structure in Kinshasa (DR Congo) to develop research, teaching and training activities + expertise in a major topic for developing countries : PERIURBANISATION International partner in Kinshasa: ERAIFT (Regional Postgraduate Training School on Integrated Management of Tropical Forests and Territories - UNESCO), on the campus of the University of Kinshasa Recruitement of a scientific staff permanently based in Kinshasa: his role is to animate the ULg activities in Central Africa (namely the network of PhD students) and find ways to finance further activities in the region

AN INSTITUTIONAL PROJECT: PLATFORM IN CENTRAL AFRICA (KINSHASA) Projects are gathered around 5 multidisciplinary set of themes in the periurban zones : 1. Natural resources 2. Food security 3. Public health 4. Working of public services 5. Space planning and management First step: recruitment of 5 PhD students - Ongoing (application until June 15th, 2014) Second step: Initial training (3 months) in Liege Third step: Co-tuition agreements for the PhD students (one promoter in the ERAIFT, the other one in the ULg)
