Net Deed Plotter To ArcGIS 9.3 This document is written for users that have a good working knowledge of both Net Deed Plotter and ArcGIS. If you need further assistance on the process and setting changes specifically related to importing a Net Deed Plotter map into ArcGIS if you require more assistance with Net Deed Plotter inputs, there are options. Click on HELP and read the programmer's file on Getting Started or printout Mike Tutorial in his web site. Or, contact Mike who has just completed a 4+ hour, training DVD, talking about the details of using the NDP. There may be a small charge for the DVD, but I'm sure it would be worth it. If further help is needed in the functions of ArcGIS please refer to the help menu or contact ESRI support. Using the following legal description we will draw a map of the description and import it into its correct location on a base map in ArcGIS. LEGAL DESCRIPTION The legal description of the subject property is as follows: A parcel of land located in the E½ NE¼ of Section 15, Township 2 South, Range 69 West of the 6th P.M., City of Westminster, Jefferson County, State of Colorado, more particularly described as follows: Commencing at the Southwest Corner of said E½ NE¼ of Section 15; thence North 00 02'58" West, along the West Line of said E2, a distance of 639.99 feet to the Northerly Line of West 101st Avenue Right-of-Way, as dedicated to the City of Westminster in Book 95 at Page 45 of the Jefferson County Records, being also the (TRUE) Point of Beginning; thence North 00 02'58" West, along said West Line, a distance of 577.38 feet; thence North 89 57'02" East, a distance of 269.99 feet; thence North 00 02'58" West, a distance of 233.61 feet; thence North 61 47'24" East, a distance of 101.43 feet to the southerly right-of-way line of Dover Str.; thence South 47 30'00" East, along said Southerly Line a distance of 222.35 feet, to a point of a curve; thence along the arc of a curve to the right having a radius of 395.00 feet, an arc length of 48.80 feet, a central angle of 07 04'40", a chord bearing of South 43 57'40" East, a chord length of 48.76 feet and to a point of non-tangent; thence leaving said Southerly Line North 52 07'20" East, a distance of 60.05 feet; thence South 37 52'40" East, a distance of 12.96 feet to a point of tangent curve; thence along a tangent curve to the right, having a radius of 330.00 feet, a central angle of 73 53'43", and an arc length of 425.61 feet to a point of tangency; thence South 36 01'03" West, a distance of 173.75 feet to a point of tangent curve, thence along the arc of a tangent curve to the left, having a central angle of 72 23'33", and an arc length of 404.32 feet, a radius of 320.00 feet, to a point of tangency; thence South 36 22'30" East, a distance of 330.92 feet, to the Northerly Line of the new Right of Way for West 100th Avenue; thence along the arc of a non-tangent curve to the right, and along said Northerly Line, having a radius of 634.50 feet, a central angle of 20 55'00", a chord bearing of South 71 35'38" West, a chord length of 230.55 feet, and an arc length of 231.63 feet to a point of tangency; thence South 82 03'08" West, a distance of 1.60 feet to a point of non-tangent curve; thence leaving said Northerly Line along the arc of a non-tangent curve having a radius of 125.00 feet, a central angle of 48 13'49", a chord bearing of North 35 56'03" West, a chord length of 102.14 feet, and an arc length of 105.22 feet, to the left, to a point of tangency; thence North 60 02'58" West, a distance of 92.97 feet to a point of curve; thence along the arc of a curve to the right, having a radius of 125.00 feet, a central angle of 60 00'00", a chord bearing of North 30 02'58" West, a chord length of 125.00 feet, and an arc length of 130.90 feet; thence South 89 57'50" West, a distance of 20.01 feet to the Southeast Corner of Lot 1, Block 1, Parcel G, Lot 1 within Wallace Village Planned Unit Development Subdivision as recorded in Book 95, at Page 45 of the Jefferson County Records; thence North 00 02'58" West, a distance of 166.00

feet, along the East Line of said Lot 1, Block 1; thence North 89 57'02" East, a distance of 40.50 feet; thence North 00 02'58" West, a distance of 73.58 feet to the Southerly Right of way Line of aforementioned West 101st Avenue, being also a point of non-tangent curve; thence along the arc of said curve, having a central angle of 04 07'20", a radius of 552.25 feet, a chord bearing of North 75 37'28" East, a chord length of 39.73 feet, and an arc length of 39.73 feet, to the left; thence North 16 26'12" West, a distance of 90.0 feet to the Northerly Line of aforementioned West 101st Avenue; thence along the arc of a non-tangent curve to the right, having a radius of 462.25 feet, a central angle of 16 23'14", a chord bearing of South 81 45'25" West, a chord length of 131.76 feet, and an arc length of 132.21 feet to a point of tangency; thence South 89 57'02" West, a distance of 193.17 feet to the (TRUE) point of beginning. To begin the project I have loaded the base map for the area indicated in the legal description and have already created the map from the description in Net Deed Plotter.

The projection of the ArcGIS project has been set to UTM NAD83 Zone 12 N. This will make the process of importing the map from Net Deed Plotter simpler. If you do not know how to set the projection for your project in ArcGIS please refer to the help menu. Please also note you will need to use the UTM zone for the basemap in the area you are working with. In order to get the DXF file we will create from NDP to reference in the correct location we will first need to get the UTM coordinate of the point of beginning from the legal description. A parcel of land located in the E½ NE¼ of Section 15, Township 2 South, Range 69 West of the 6th P.M., City of Westminster, Jefferson County, State of Colorado, more particularly described as follows: Commencing at the Southwest Corner of said E½ NE¼ of Section 15 There are several methods of getting the coordinate. The first is to simply put the cursor on the point and write down the coordinate from the coordinate display in the lower right corner of the ArcGIS window. You can see this in the example above this is 1005361.311 4430829.336 Meters. This is not the point of beginning coordinate but the location of the cursor when the snap shot was taken. Another, more accurate, method would be to use the snapping tool in the edit tool box to create a point for the location. After the point has been created you can use an extension to add the coordinate to the table associated with point. In our case we have used Xtools Pro to get the coordinate information. (http://www.xtoolspro.com)

From the table we see the coordinate is 1005059.96939 4430941.86046 Meters. We can now add that coordinate to the editor window in NDP and resave a georeferenced DXF file.

The line for the coordinate E1005059.96939M N4430941.86046M was added to the editor window and the project resaved. The map was then redrawn as shown below. Using the advanced menu the map is then saved as DXF (Meters) We can now add the DXF file to our ArcGIS project.

Our parcel is now on our base map located from the point of beginning coordinates. In our example description there is an offset line from the point of beginning to the true point of beginning.

We now need to rotate the map a few degrees so it will align with the section line. Using the tract rotation tool as shown in the example below a value of 4.15 has been entered to rotate the parcel. This angle value was determined by changing the angle exporting the DXF and adding it to ArcGIS until the correct angle was found. After resaving the DXF from NDP we now can add the new DXF to the ArcGIS project.

If you choose to remove the remaining offset line that is not part of the parcel you can do this by exporting the DXF to a Shapefile within ArcGIS and use the split tool to clip off the offset line. The result of this is shown in the example below. As a last note in the case of our description we had a PLS location to begin from. In other cases you may not have this. A description may begin with a point of beginning that is from the NW corner of lot 34 of the Beartooth Heights sub division. In this instance you would need to acquire a cadastral data layer showing the lot corner, georeference a subdivision plat map that has locations that match your base map, or acquire a GPS coordinate for the location of the point of beginning. Once you have a UTM coordinate for the indicated point of beginning the process will work just as it did in this example.
