1. SDL MultiTerm Desktop Overview SDL MultiTerm Desktop is a suite of terminology management applications that can be used stand-alone as well as in conjunction with SDL Trados Studio. It offers a scalable solution covering all scenarios from Freelance to Enterprise with one product line. Whether you access your terminology via a desktop client or Internet browser, SDL MultiTerm Desktop enables you to manage everything from one location. Its integration with SDL Trados Studio enables you to make sure that you are using consistent terminology while you create and translate content. Important: SDL MultiTerm Desktop product suite includes the following client components: SDL MultiTerm Desktop, SDL MultiTerm Widget and SDL MultiTerm Convert. SDL MultiTerm Extract is available separately, on request, after purchasing this terminology extraction component. The server components (SDL MultiTerm Server and Team, SDL MultiTerm Online and shared SDL server components) are included in SDL Studio GroupShare. For information on the server components, refer to the SDL Studio GroupShare Release Notes: http://producthelp.sdl.com/sdl_studio_groupshare_2014/en/guides/groupshare_installation_ Guide.pdf For more information, see http://www.sdl.com/technology/language-technology/terminologymanagement.html Note: Within the documentation, we refer to the following SDL products in short form: SDL MultiTerm Desktop MultiTerm Desktop SDL MultiTerm Administrator MultiTerm Administrator SDL MultiTerm Widget MultiTerm Widget SDL MultiTerm Convert MultiTerm Convert SDL MultiTerm Extract MultiTerm Extract SDL Studio GroupShare GroupShare SDL MultiTerm Server MultiTerm Server SDL Trados Studio Studio SDL Passolo Passolo SDL MultiTerm Word Integration MultiTerm Word Integration 4

2. What s New in MultiTerm Desktop? MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 includes the new features and functionality listed below: 2.1 Ability to connect to GroupShare servers that contain subfolders in the URL path GroupShare 2014 SP1 administrators can now deploy the GroupShare server to a specific subfolder under a main website. MultiTerm Desktop 2104 SP1 accepts connection to such servers. This means that you can access termbases on servers available at URLs formatted in this way: http://example-domain.com/groupshare 2.2 Ability to respond to Dots per inch (DPI) scaling MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 applications are now aware of high DPI settings. This means that if you increase the display size on your screen, MultiTerm Desktop and MultiTerm Widget adjust automatically to the optimal zoom level for your current DPI scaling. As a result, the MultiTerm layout text and images render clear and crisp on a wide variety of display settings. 2.3 Contextual Ribbon navigation: Sleek and clean user interface MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 uses ribbon-type navigation, which is designed to help you quickly find the commands that you need to access and work with your terminology data. We have replaced the drop-down menus and toolbars from previous MultiTerm Desktop versions with groups and tabs, organized in a compact manner on the Ribbon interface. The Ribbon only displays the commands that you need in your current context. This reduces clutter and maximizes your workspace real-estate. The Ribbon also bridges the gap with Microsoft Office products, which you may often use together with MultiTerm Desktop and Studio. This makes it easier for you to transit between MultiTerm Desktop and Microsoft Office products. 2.4 Usability Enhancements for Import and Export You can now import and export termbase entries directly from the File menu in any view in MultiTerm Desktop. Previously, these options were only available from navigation pane in the Catalog view. 2.5 MultiTerm Administrator moved to GroupShare Starting with the 2014 releases, MultiTerm Desktop no longer includes MultiTerm Administrator. Instead, the MultiTerm Administrator installer is delivered with GroupShare and is also available as a separate download from your SDL My Account. GroupShare 2014 installs MultiTerm Administrator 2014 on the GroupShare server and includes a stand-alone installer for the MultiTerm Desktop 2014 installer. 5

2.6 Installing MultiTerm Word Integration requires manual completion MultiTerm Desktop now adds the files required for integrating MultiTerm Desktop with Word to a Templates subfolder under the SDL MultiTerm installation folder. To complete the installation of the Word Integration for MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1, manually copy these files to the Microsoft Word startup and installation folders. For detailed instructions and specific locations of these files and folders, read the Installing the SDL MultiTerm Template for Microsoft Word 2007-2013 file available under %Program Files% (x86)%\sdl\sdl MultiTerm\MultiTerm11\Templates. For 32-bit operating systems, the file is located at %Program Files%\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\MultiTerm11\Templates. 6

3. Installation Prerequisites MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 requires the following: Hardware A Microsoft Windows-based PC (including Intel-based Apple Mac computers running Windows as an operating system) with a 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster, 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor and 2 GB RAM (32-bit) or 4 GB RAM (64-bit) Up to 400 MB of available hard disk space to run the MultiTerm Desktop installer Up to 1 GB of available disk space to run the MultiTerm Desktop applications A screen resolution of 1280x1024 pixels and 256 colors or higher Operating Systems MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 runs on the latest service-packed versions of Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8, Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2008 Server and Windows 2012 Server. MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 does not support earlier operating systems such as Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows 98, Windows XP and Windows 2003 pre-sp2. Microsoft has recently stopped support for Windows XP. As a result, we are no longer testing or supporting MultiTerm on Microsoft Windows XP. In addition, MultiTerm 2014 SP1 ships with Java version 8 that does not install on Windows XP. We recommend that you upgrade to a newer version of Windows, or continue using the original MultiTerm 2014 release (non-sp1). If you no longer have the Multiterm 2014 installer, you can find it under Archived Product Updates in your My Account. At the time of writing, we are also looking at ways to make MutiTerm install on Windows XP by not installing Java 8. For more information on latest news, see KB article #5184 at http://kb.sdl.com/kb/article?articleid=5184&source=article&c=12&cid=23. Subscribe to this KB article for latest news on the issue. Software MultiTerm Convert requires Microsoft Excel 2002-2013 for direct conversion of XLS or XLSX files to MultiTerm XML. MultiTerm Desktop supports direct integration with Microsoft Word through the multiterm11.dotm file. This requires Microsoft Word 2007 2013. MultiTerm Desktop also requires Microsoft Word for processing correctly Word or RTF-based files. MultiTerm Desktop does not support 64-bit versions of Microsoft Word. MultiTerm Extract requires Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel and Trados 6.5 or higher for extracting terms from PowerPoint and Excel files directly. 7

Browsers To display the MultiTerm Desktop online Help, make sure you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or higher. If you access the Help directly in a browser instead of clicking the Help button inside MultiTerm Desktop, you can also use Mozilla Firefox 3 and above, Safari 4 or any version of Google Chrome. For more information on the prerequisites for installing MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1, see the MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 Installation Guide at http://producthelp.sdl.com/sdl_multiterm_2014/client_en/guides/sdl%20multiterm%2020 14%20Installation%20Guide.pdf Installing MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 Make sure that you have administrator rights and that you have no other software running while installing MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1. You can find a full list of the software, including third-party software installed with MultiTerm Desktop in the MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 Installation Guide, available at: http://producthelp.sdl.com/sdl_multiterm_2014/client_en/guides/sdl%20multiterm%202014 %20Installation%20Guide.pdf You can download the MultiTerm Desktop installer from your SDL My Account at oos.sdl.com/asp/products/ssl/account/default.asp If you are upgrading servers, consult the GroupShare Console Help and browse to the section Help for Server Upgrades. Microsoft.NET 4.0 The MultiTerm Desktop installers detect whether the required Microsoft.NET 4.0 version is available on your computer. If it is not, MultiTerm Desktop automatically downloads and installs it, then your installation resumes automatically. If the installation does not resume, double-click the Setup.exe to restart the installation. After installing Microsoft.NET, MultiTerm Desktop may ask you to restart your computer. See kb.sdl.com for the latest information on solving installation issues. Installing MultiTerm Extract MultiTerm Extract is not included in the MultiTerm Desktop SP1 installer because MultiTerm Extract is available as a separate purchase. 8

You can only install MultiTerm Extract on a computer where MultiTerm Desktop is already available. The step that installs the Sun Java Runtime Environment 1.8 activates the Java Runtime Environment in Internet Explorer. If this is a security issue for you, deactivate the Java Runtime Environment after installing MultiTerm Extract. You can deactivate this in the Advanced tab of the Internet Options dialog box in Internet Explorer. 9

4. Compatibility Studio MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 is compatible with all versions of Studio 2014 and Studio 2011. Other MultiTerm Desktop versions MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 runs alongside any version of MultiTerm Desktop 2011 and MultiTerm Desktop 2014. If you wish to use a 2011 version, close your 2014 version and then open the older version manually from the Start menu. SDL generally recommends that you use the latest version. GroupShare MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 is compatible with any version of MultiTerm Server 2011 and MultiTerm Server 2014. MultiTerm Extract MultiTerm Extract uses the common SDL Trados File Filter Framework. While MultiTerm Extract ships its own filter framework, SDL recommends that you always have the latest version of Studio 2014 installed (this includes SDL Trados 2007 components that are key for MultiTerm Extract) to profit from the most recent changes and additions. MultiTerm Extract uses the SDL Trados 2007 Suite API to access *.tmw files. Install SDL Trados 2007 Suite for projects where you directly access *.tmw files. MultiTerm Widget You can install MultiTerm Widget 2014, 2011 and 2009 on the same computer. All three versions appear in the Start menu and the 2014 version is the default version. Passolo MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 is compatible with Passolo 2011 SP9. Multimedia formats MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 supports the following multimedia formats: BMP, JPG, GIF, ICO, PNG, WMF, AVI. 10

5. Supported Releases With this release, MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 becomes the active MultiTerm Desktop release. SDL continues to support all versions of MultiTerm Desktop 2011 as the mature release. SDL moved MultiTerm 2007 to a retired state at the end of 2013. Retired means that SDL no longer provides any further technical assistance for this product. For MultiTerm 2009, SDL has extended support until the end of June 2014. SDL will release hotfixes for MultiTerm Desktop 2014 and MultiTerm Desktop 2011 as and when required. Service packs will be released at the discretion of SDL. 11

6. Localization The user interface for MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 is available in the following languages: German French Spanish Japanese Simplified Chinese 12

7. Resolved Issues MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 incorporates all cumulative updates released for MultiTerm Desktop 2014 and MultiTerm Desktop 2011. In the table below, you can find other key fixes enhancements. Description All MultiTerm Desktop components now support in-place upgrades for the Java runtime. This means that the MultiTerm components support the latest versions of Java that you install, regardless of the Java version shipped with the MultiTerm Desktop release. The MultiTerm Desktop log functionality is now available again. Removed SmartHeap dependencies to enable better memory management and stability. Fixed MultiTerm Widget copy/paste issues on non-english operating systems. MultiTerm Desktop now creates fuzzy indexes correctly when opening legacy termbases. Fixed a memory leak in term recognition for long complex terms. 13

8. Known Issues The table below lists the limitations and known issues associated with the MultiTerm Desktop 2014 SP1 release. These are the issues that SDL considers important to resolve but not serious enough to delay the release. The MultiTerm Desktop development team will prioritize these issues in a future release of the software. Description If your entry structure allows fields embedded within fields, the built-in layout definitions cannot yet display the values of the deeper embedded fields. Adapt the layouts accordingly. For example, create a duplicate of a built-in layout and modify it to display the embedded field. Displaying multimedia files fails if you have Internet Explorer 7 installed. You can use Internet Explorer 8 or higher to solve this issue. MultiTerm Widget uses optical character recognition techniques for capturing text from within images. These techniques use on a third-party library that does not currently provide sufficient support for right-to-left bidirectional languages such as Arabic or Hebrew. MultiTerm Convert converts automatic attribute fields in MultiTerm 5 (*.mtw) files to the corresponding history fields in the MultiTerm *.xml file. However, to assign history fields to descriptive fields in the new MultiTerm 2014 termbase, explicitly select the Keep history option for each descriptive field in the termbase definition that requires a history. You can find this option in the Termbase Wizard in MultiTerm Desktop and MultiTerm Administrator. Microsoft Word integration: If you add an entry from Word and add the segments from your Word document as a content example, MultiTerm Desktop may not copy context sentences from the document if there is an image immediately after the segment. This is a limitation in Word s sentence detector. Either fill in the context sentence manually in the Submit to termbase dialog or remove the images. MultiTerm Word Integration: MultiTerm Word Integration may not work if you uninstall Studio. In this case, reinstall the SDL MultiTerm Core Component by running the MultiTerm Desktop installer again. MultiTerm Extract: Extracting terms against a remote termbase fails when using the super user login. Use another login. Uninstalling: After you uninstall some components of MultiTerm Desktop, the Remove suite of products option disappears. 14
