NSMA Procedure for callers who need new physicians: 1. If medical emergency, refer to Emergency Room 2. If need new primary care or main management physician, it is important to get on a primary care list and contact Dr. Rand s office for medical records ASAP. Patients can call Dr. Rand s office Monday Friday 10 a.m. 4 p.m. to request their medical records and they can pick them up on Friday from 9 a.m. -1 p.m. Rand: 775-826-7263 3. How do they get on a list for primary care? a) If they are insured i) FIRST call insurance company for list of contracted physicians I. If they are experiencing symptoms of withdrawal or detoxification, refer to a clinic (see lists above). 5. If the caller needs non-emergent medical treatment or refills on non-narcotic prescriptions before their primary care appointment, a. They may have another treating physician (such as cardiologist, urologist, oncologist, etc.) for an underlying medical issue. Sometimes that physician may refer to an alternate pain specialist, or may be appropriate for presenting symptoms. Refer them to that alternate treating physician who is appropriate for the presenting symptoms or prescriptions OR b. refer to Urgent Care. *It is important that folks without primary care physicians get themselves on a list for primary care and seek medical records from Dr. Rand s office even if they intend to go to urgent care or a clinic. 14
