HOW TO GET TO STOCKHOLM CITY ARRIVE BY PLANE You ll arrive to one of the following 4 airports (in Swedish, flygplats). ARLANDA AIRPORT (Stockholm s main international airport, http://www.arlanda.se) There is a bus service departing from terminals 5, 4 and 2. It is called Flygbussarna. This bus takes you directly to the centre (Cityterminalen, T-Centralen subway station). The price is 89 SEK for a single ticket or 178 SEK for a return youth ticket (16-25 years old). The trip takes 40 minutes. They leave from the airport every 10 or 15 minutes 03:45-22:00 every day of the week. Otherwise there is an express train (Arlanda Express) which takes only 20 minutes to the central station, but the price is slightly higher: 260 SEK for a return ticket and 130 SEK for a single one (8-25 years old, or with your student cards). Except for the first and last trains they depart every 15 minutes from the airport 05:00-01:00 every day. SKAVSTA AIRPORT http://www.skavsta.se This is one of Ryanair s airports (mostly used). To go to Stockholm there is a bus service called Flygbussarna. This bus takes you directly to the Stockholm city (Cityterminalen, T-Centralen subway station). The bus leaves approximately 20 minutes after the Ryanair plane lands, so you have time to pick up your luggage. If the plane is late the bus waits for it. The price is 238 SEK for a return ticket and 119 SEK for the single one. You can buy your tickets at an automatic machine, there is one outside the airport terminal where usually nobody goes: avoid to queue! Credit cards and debit cards are accepted. There s also a barrier next to the exit where you can pay cash and buy the ticket. The trip to Stockholm takes about 80 minutes. Should you miss the first bus, don t worry. Flygbussarna departs every 20 minutes from 03:30 every day. The last bus varies depending on the day. See the schedule at http://www.flygbussarna.se/en/skavsta VÄSTERÅS AIRPORT http://www.vasterasflygplats.se (in Swedish only) This is the other Ryanair airport. It s quite small. To go to Stockholm there is a bus service called Flygbussarna. This bus takes you directly to the centre (Cityterminalen, T-Centralen subway station). The bus departs approximately 20 minutes after the Ryanair plane arrives. If the plane i late the bus waits for it. It s the only bus you can see when you go out through the only door. The price is
238 SEK for a return ticket of 119 SEK for a single ticket. You can buy the ticket directly from the bus driver and it should be possible to pay with debit card (Maestro). The trip to Stockholm takes 75 minutes. BROMMA AIRPORT http://www.brommaairport.se You might arrive to this airport if you travel with Virgin Express or Malmö Aviation. This airport is quite close to the city centre. Don t miss the wonderful view of the city while landing. You can take the bus number 110 to Alvik: get off at the last stop (Alvik subway station) and take the subway to T-Centralen, where you get off. The ticket must be bought before entering the bus. You also have the possibility of taking the special airport bus service, Flygbussarna, for 59 SEK for a single tickets or 118 SEK for a return ticket, to Cityterminalen, T-Centralen subway station. They depart from the airport every 20 minutes 05:40-20:00 every weekday. With the same frequency on Saturdays 7:30-15:20 and on Sundays at 11:20-20:00. If you are already coming by subway or city bus (the red ones) from Bromma Airport/Alvik you have to get off the green line (at Alvik, you can take any of the 3 different trains) to T-Centralen, there you can change to the red line towards Mörby Centrum. Of course in that case you don t have to buy a new ticket as you are already are inside the underground and can use the one you bought before to continue to KTH. ARRIVE BY BOAT This one is a bit tricky. If you are coming by boat please send us an email!
MEETING POINT CITYTERMINALEN MAIN ENTRANCE Most people will be arriving by bus from the airport so the meeting point is at the bus terminal at Stockholm Central Station. We will tell you what times we get you from there when we know your arrival information. Fill in the Participant Info sheet!
KUNGLIGA TEKNISKA HÖGSKOLAN (KTH) In Stockholm, our main meeting point will be at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH).The Main Campus of KTH is located near the underground stop Tekniska Högskolan (Red line towards Mörby Centrum ). Most of the activities will take place in the building Nymble - Student Union (Kårhuset). The Royal Institute of Technology (Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan), KTH, is responsible for one-third of Sweden s capacity for engineering studies and technical research at post-secondary level. It has over 11,000 undergraduate students, 1,500 active postgraduate students and a staff of 3,100 people. KTH was founded in 1827 and is the largest of Sweden s universities of technology. Since 1917 KTH has been housed in central Stockholm in beautiful buildings, which today have historical monument status, and associated colleges are also found in various places in the Stockholm surroundings Haninge, Kista, Södertälje. KTH is an international institution with established research and educational exchanges all over the world, especially in Europe, the USA, Australia and Southeast Asia. Cooperation schemes with the Baltic States and Russia are on the increase. It is KTH s ambition to play an even stronger role in the EU research programs than today. Various joint efforts with the Swedish International Development Agency and other development bodies abroad are also part of our international program.
HOW TO GET TO KTH (in case of trouble) In case we won t be able to meet some of you at T-Centralen, the central-station, or some of you get lost you shall contact one of the main organizers. This is the way to get to KTH in the worst case if nobody is available (which will hopefully never happen!). Once you are at Cityterminalen/T-Centralen, first follow the tunnelbana signs to get into the underground (since there are other kinds of trains at the same station). Have a look here how the underground symbol looks like: You have to buy a ticket at the barrier. The automatic gates are for monthly cards only. You have to go to one of the small barriers where someone is sitting to check the tickets. There you can buy a single ticket. You can also buy single tickets at a kiosk called and you will get a stamp on it. You have to say that you want to go to Tekniska Högskolan or KTH, just say it in English, to Tekniska, please. After that you have to find the RED line number 14 to the direction of Mörby Centrum. Just follow the signs. At the platform be aware of catching the right train (to Mörby Centrum) as on the same platform some other trains go towards Ropsten. (If you got it wrong you still can change at the next station, Östermalmstorg.) The light panel on the ceiling clearly indicates where the next train goes. These are the stations you will pass: T-Centralen Östermalmstorg Stadion Tekniska Högskolan. There you get off and take the exit to Tekniska högskolan/sl center (look at the signs again, as there are two different exits). It s the tail of the train coming from T-Centralen. Once you are there we will pick you up or you will go to Nymble The Student Union Building (Kårhuset). Have a look at the campus map below.
Here you have a small map of the centre of the subway system: Some estimated prices of common goods Pizza 55-80 SEK Kebab 45-60 SEK Beer 30-70 SEK Cinema 100-130 SEK Cigarettes 50 SEK Mars or Twix 10 SEK Magnum ice cream 18 SEK Stamp for Europe 12 SEK
ABOUT STOCKHOLM The capital of Scandinavia, Venice of the North, our cultural, economic and political centre was first inhabited just after the last ice age some 8000 years ago. They left pretty soon, though. The city as we know it today was founded 800 years ago, primarily to protect Sweden from being assaulted by sea. CLIMATE In June the temperature is on average 20 degrees celsius, which is extremely hot for us, but maybe not for some of you.
