DPS ref: 03740-16(RP) File: Oncology Sheet 1 of 3 The Oncology and Haematology Departments The following information is for all patients and their relatives attending the Oncology (cancer) and Haematology (blood disorder) units. We believe in a team approach remembering that you are the central person in the team and hope that this lessens the trauma of your illness. The following members of the Oncology and Haematology team are available to assist you and your carers throughout the various aspects of your treatment: Consultants (Oncology/ Radiotherapy) Please contact the relevant secretary during office hours 9 am 5 pm, Monday Friday. Drs Scrase and Morgan: 01473 704319 Dr Podd: 01473 704906 Dr Sherwin: 01473 704915 Dr Ventikaraman: 01473 704177 Dr Yip: 01473 702994 Consultants (Haematology) Drs Ademokun, Chalmers and Whalley: telephone their secretary on 01473 703718 during office hours 9 am 5 pm, Monday Friday. John Le Vay Cancer Support and Information Centre Situated in the Woolverstone Wing, the Centre is open Monday Friday, 9am 4pm. Telephone 01473 715748. You will always be listened to and given information and support when it is the right time for you. We offer a relaxed, friendly, non-clinical environment. We have a number of services that we provide from the centre, which include: a wide range of information on all aspects of living with and beyond cancer; referrals to a number of hospital and external services;

weekly Macmillan Benefits clinics that offer help and advice around financial issues; complementary therapy and counselling services; Moving on with the HOPE course self-management courses, one for patients and one for carers; workshops such as art group and book club; exercise referrals for local gyms, swimming groups or specific classes; support groups; hats and wigs; health and wellbeing days; and family support, including support for children whose parents are affected by cancer. Macmillan Specialist Nurses (Palliative Care) These nurses assist and advise on all aspects of cancer care, particularly in relation to pain and symptom management, from diagnosis onwards. Telephone 01473 704124 (answering machine). Haematology Nurse Specialists These nurses assist and advise on all aspects of haematology care from diagnosis, specifically regarding treatments. Responsible for education and development of staff in this area. Telephone 01473 704946 (answering machine). Senior Registered Nurses (Day Unit) The senior registered nurses will give advice and information about your treatment and any problems relating to it. Available in the Day Care Unit Monday Friday, 9 am 5 pm, telephone 01473 707306.

Sheet 2 of 3 Oncology Nurse Specialists These nurses assist and advise on all aspects of oncology care from diagnosis onward. Telephone 01473 704929, 702488, 702798 or 704037. Counsellor and Complementary Therapist This service offers counselling, aromatherapy, relaxation therapy and therapeutic touch. Telephone 01473 704903 (answering machine). Somersham Ward (the Oncology and Haematology ward) Ward staff can provide advice and support on a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week basis. Telephone 01473 704900 or 704901. Outpatient Clinic Reception Appointments for this department s outpatient and day care clinics. Telephone 01473 704925 Monday Friday, 9 am 5 pm. Outpatient Clinic Nurses The named nurse for your consultant s clinic can be contacted for advice and information. Telephone 01473 704931 Monday Friday, 9 am 5 pm and leave a message and she will ring you back. From outside the hospital, Monday Friday, 9 am 5 pm, telephone 01473 712233 and ask the switchboard operator to bleep the chaplain. Outside these hours dial the same number and ask the switchboard operator to contact the chaplain for you. If you are in the hospital, please ask a member of ward staff to do this for you.

Community Clinical Nurse Specialists These specialist nurses see people at home, from point of diagnosis and at any stage of the disease. They offer support to patient and family, symptom control and practical advice. Contact can be made via your GP or by telephoning the service directly on 01473 707044. Radiotherapy Treatment Macmillan Radiographers The radiographers have a hospital-wide brief to assist and advise on all aspects of oncology care from diagnosis, specifically regarding radiotherapy treatment. They are available Monday Friday, 9 am 4 pm. Telephone 01473 704361 (answering machine) or 01473 712233 and ask for bleep 608 or 379. Information can be found by visiting our Radiotherapy website at www.ipswichhospital.nhs.uk/radiotherapy Radiographers / Radiotherapy Reception Advice and information can be provided regarding your radiotherapy treatment and / or any problems relating to your treatment that you may be experiencing. Monday Friday, 9 am 4.45 pm, telephone 01473 704289. Social Worker For advice on discharge arrangements for inpatients. This service is available on request or may be suggested by a nurse or doctor. Telephone 01473 703540 Monday Friday, 9 am 5 pm. Dietitian A dietitian is available to give nutritional advice if you are losing weight or have any other dietary problems. Ask a member of the medical team to refer you. Physiotherapist A physiotherapist is available in the Oncology Department. Any of the staff can make a referral on your behalf.

Any ward staff can make a referral on your behalf. CLIC Sargent Social Worker A service specialising in the needs of young patients aged from birth to 24 years. May be contacted via the hospital social services department. Telephone 01473 703540 Monday Friday, 9 am 5 pm. St Elizabeth Hospice Provides both inpatient beds and day care. For further information please ask your nurse or doctor or telephone 01473 727776. This only gives an outline of the services available. Please ask the nurse or doctor who is looking after you if you feel you would benefit from the involvement of other team members in your care.
