Rainbow Words: Write your words using 3 different colored markers. On the Back Words: Use your finger to write a spelling word on someone s back. Have them guess what you wrote. Then, switch roles. Surround Words: Write your words on graph paper. Write middle letters, one letter in each box. Use two boxes for above the line and below the line letters. Then outline the words using different colors. Ransom Words: Write your words by cutting out letters from newspapers or magazines. Mistake Words: Have a friend write three of your spelling words on a piece of paper, with one being misspelled. You have to decide which one is incorrect and spell it correctly. Continue until all you have done all of your spelling Exercise Words: Touch your toes while you spell all of your one-syllable Do jumping jacks while you spells your two-syllable Delicious Words: Write your words in whipped cream or something else you can eat! (Jello, pudding, frosting, peanut butter, melted chocolate etc). Ten Question Words: Have a friend write one of your words on a card. Then ask them questions that can be answered yes or no. Continue until all your spelling words are used in a sentence. Adding Words: Assign a number to each letter of the alphabet. Then, write your spelling words and add up how much each one is worth. Computer Words: Type your words on a computer. Print out the finished copy. Flashlight Words: Write your words by shining a flashlight against a wall in the house. Sidewalk Words: Go outside and write your words on the sidewalk using chalk. Stair Words: Spell this week s words using word stairs, where the first letter in the new word is the same as the last letter in the word that preceded it, written in stair-like fashion. Concentration Words: Play concentration with your spelling

Reversed ABC Order Words: Write your words in backwards alphabetical order. Jump Rope Words: Spell each of your words while jumping rope. Scrabble Words: Use Scrabble tiles to spell your Then add the numbers on the tiles to determine the value of each word. Clothesline Words: String a bungee cord clothesline between two chairs. Use numerous clip clothespins with different letters of the alphabet written on them. Clip the correct letters in order on the line to spell your spelling Stamped Words; Use a set of alphabet rubber stamps or alphabet markers to stamp your Magnetic Words: Use magnetic letters to spell words on the fridge, a cookie sheet, or a dry erase board. Scrambled Words: Write each of your spelling words in a scrambled fashion. Switch with a friend and see if he/she can figure it out! Spelling by Numbers Words: Write your words in columns according to how many letters are in each word. Syllable Words: Write your words in columns according to how many syllables there are in each word. In-The-Air Words: Extend your arm out in front of you with your thumb up. Spell your words in the air, forming each of the letters, while focusing on your thumb. Stencil Words: Use stencils to write your spelling Whisper Shout Words: Spell your words saying each consonant in a loud voice and each vowel in a whisper. Trash Words: Spell a spelling word to a friend. If you spell it correctly you get a chance to wad up a piece of paper and shoot for two points using the garbage can as the basket. Continue with all Liquid Soap Words: Pour a small amount of scented, liquid soap on a plate. Spell your words into the soap using a different finger for each word. Act It Out Words: Act out a spelling word to a friend. Have them guess the word and spell it. Then it will be their turn to act out a word and allow you to guess and spell.

Silly Sentence Words: Think of a word that begins with each of the letters in the spelling word and construct a silly sentence. For instance, the word does might turn into: David often eats snails. This is always more effective when it is paired with a picture or acted out. Or you can use your word in a silly sentence. Ex: My dog wears a blue and purple dress when he takes a bath. Finger Spelling Words: Finger spell your spelling words for the week using sign language. Words-In-Words: Write each word. Try to find smaller words that can be made from the original word. Finger Paint Words: Place a dab of finger paint in a zip-loc bag, tape the bag closed for extra support. Lay the bag out flat on the table and write your words on the bag with your finger. (*Can also use hair gel) Texture Words: Use salt, sand, sugar, or other gritty substance to spell your words on a cookie sheet. Gel Pen Words: Use gel pens and black paper to write your spelling Glued Words: Write your spelling words using a glue bottle on a piece of construction paper. Add glitter! Vowel/Consonant Words: Write each of your spelling Then go back and circle all of the vowels. Write them again but this time go back and circle all of the consonants. Upper/Lower Words: Write your spelling words 2 times. First write each word in uppercase letters. Second write each word in lowercase letters. Backwards Words: Write your spelling words forwards, then backwards. Triple Words: Write each spelling word 3 times. First, write each word in pencil. Second, write each word in crayon. Third, write each word in marker.

Riddle Words: Write a riddle for each of your spelling Choo-Choo Words: Write the entire list end-to-end as one long word (like a train). Use a different colored crayon for each word. Colorful Words: Write each of your spelling words using a different colored pencil. Musical Words: Write a song or rap using your spelling Other Handed Words: First write your spelling words the way you usually do. Then, try writing the list with your other hand! Letter Writing Words: Write a letter to a friend or family member using each of your Underline the spelling words that you use in your letter. Secret Agent Words: Number the alphabet from 1-26. Then convert your words to a number code. You must write the actual spelling word next to the code word.
