Additional SQL management tools will allow access to the database with custom applications while maintaining the integrity of the database. This installation manual should be used as a guide and during the installation process if you have any questions please call Nel-Tech Labs for assistance. 3

Installing Microsoft SQL Server Express: It is highly recommended that you contact Nel-Tech Labs to install the SQL Server Express and the SQL Server Management Studio Express software. If your company has a dedicated SQL server we can use that server and just add the NTL Studio database to the existing server. Pre install Recommendations: 1. Please take all the latest updates available for the PC or server that we will be installing SQL Server Express. 2. Make sure that Microsoft s.net Framework 3.5 or higher is installed and up to date. 3. Create a restore point and backup your system before making any changes. 4. Download and extract the ntl_studio.zip file to your server s C:\ drive. 5. Download the current version of SQL Server Express from Microsoft. Installing Microsoft SQL Server Express: Step 1: Click on the sqlexpr.exe (or sqlexpr32.exe ) and run setup using the SQL Server Installation Wizard. Step 2: Click on the Next to continue install. 4

Step 3: On the Feature Selection screen select Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive for both the Database Services and Client Components. Step 4: Click on the Next to continue install. Step 5: Click Next through the screens until you come to the Authentication Mode screen. Step 6: Select Mixed Mode and set a password for the Server Admin (sa) account. Click on Next to continue install. Step 7: On the Completing Microsoft SQL Server Express screen click Finish. Step 8: Install of SQL Server Express is complete. Step 9: Move to next section Installing Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. 5

Installing Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express: Pre install Recommendations: 1. Download from Microsoft the current version of SQL Server Management Studio Express (or use the NTL Studio CD). Installing Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express: Step 1: Click on the sqlserver2005_ssmsee.msi and run setup using the SQL Server Management Studio Express Wizard. Step 2: Click on the Next to continue install. Step 3: On the Feature Selection screen select Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive. Step 4: Click on the Next to continue install. 6

Step 5: On the Completing Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express screen click Finish. Step 6: Install of SQL Server Management Studio Express is complete. Step 7: Move to next section Configuring Microsoft SQL Server Express. 7

Configuring Microsoft SQL Server Express: Pre Configuration Recommendations: 1. Verify Microsoft SQL Server Express & SQL Server Management Studio Express are installed. Configuring Microsoft SQL Server Express: Step 1: Launch the SQL Configuration Manager from Start>Programs>Microsoft SQL Server>Configuration Tools>SQL Server Configuration Manager. Step 2: With SQL Server Configuration Manager open, expand the SQL Server Network Configuration folder. Step 3: Click on the Protocols for SQLEXPRESS tab. Step 4: Check that TCP/IP is the ONLY enabled protocol. If not, then right-click on each line and select Enable for TCP/IP, and Disable for the other three protocols. Step 5: A window will pop up each time a protocol is changed. Click OK to continue. 8

Step 6: Expand the SQL Native Client Configuration folder, then click on the Client Protocols tab. Step 7: Check that TCP/IP is the ONLY enabled protocol. If not, then right-click on each line and select Enable for TCP/IP, and Disable for the other three protocols. Step 6: Click on the SQL Server 2005 Services tab. Step 7: Verify that the Start Mode for both services is set to Automatic. If not, right-click on the service and select Properties. Click on the Service tab, and set the Start Mode to Automatic. Click OK. Step 8: Move to next section Creating NTL Studio Database Tables. 9

Creating NTL Studio Database Tables: Pre Database Creation Recommendations: 1. Verify Microsoft SQL Server Express & SQL Server Management Studio Express are installed. 2. Verify Microsoft SQL Server Express is configured. Creating NTL Studio Database Table: Step 1: Launch the SQL Server Management Studio Express from Start>Programs>Microsoft SQL Server>SQL Server Management Studio Express. Step 2: Connect to Server using the password that was created during the install process. or Step 3: Right click on the Databases folder and select Restore Database from the drop down menu. 10

Step 4: On the Restore Database screen create a name (ex. NTL Studio Database) for the database folder and enter this in the To database field. Step 5: Verify From device is selected and click File the browse button. Step 6: On the Specify Backup screen select Add, then browse to the backup folder and select the backup file (ex. C:\NTL Studio\Blank SQL Database\NTLSudioDatabase.bak). Then click OK 11

Step 7: Verify Restore is checked then click OK. Step 8: Once the restore is complete click OK. Step 9: This completes the installation and configuration of the SQL Database and Management Tools. See the NTL Studio Software Manual for the application installation and instructions. 12
