The Golden Decade 2000-2010 Education and training offered by the Australian Emergency Management Institute. Free to all states and territories. Advanced Diploma of Public Safety (EM). Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management.

The Golden Decade 2000-2010 Other emergency management workshops and training. Regular extension courses to the states and territories. National library. Schools program. Leadership programs.

Emergency Management training by WALGA Two elearning courses and two face to face courses in emergency management since 2013. One more face to face course in development. Courses available: Working in Emergency Management - elearning AIIMS Awareness - elearning Participate in Local Government Emergency Management Preparation Face to face Manage Recovery Activities for Local Government face to face Local Recovery Coordinator first course available 18 November 2015 face to face.

Emergency Management training by WALGA Face to face courses not accredited but are to increase awareness and understanding of Local Government s responsibility under the Emergency Management Act 2005. Available at WALGA office in West Leederville each quarter or can be conducted on location at a Local Government.

Emergency Management training by WALGA elearning includes: Working in Emergency Management (PUAEMR018A Work in an emergency management context) from the Advanced Diploma of Public Safety AIIMS Awareness elearning available to all agencies, with reduced rates for multiple participants and site licenses available. Costs are $250 for Working in Emergency Management and $195 for AIIMS Awareness. Some Local Governments are using these to introduce staff to emergency management.

Emergency Management training by WALGA Face to face training includes: Participate in Local Government Emergency Management Preparation Manage Recovery Activities for Local Government Local Recovery Coordinator These courses are for Elected Members, CEO s, Managers, Officers and Volunteers in Local Government. Course costs per participant are $550.

Advanced Diploma of Public Safety (EM) Currently only offered in Western Australia by one organisation. A registered training organisation called Future West Institute which can be found at: www.futurewest.com.au The course costs $7,850 but Future West is offering a discount price for their course on 23 November to 4 December 2015 for $7,065.

Advanced Diploma of Public Safety (EM) This nationally recognised qualification provide learners with the knowledge and skills to perform the role of an Emergency Manager. This qualification is delivered over ten (10) working days in a classroom, face to face delivery with each day focusing on the specifics of each unit and how they relate to the cluster of competencies. This course is not available on-line. The successful completion of work-based post course assignments are required to reach competency. This course consists of 8 core units and 4 elective units.

Bachelor of Emergency Management Offered by Charles Sturt University. Six year (12 session) distance education course. 196 credit points 11 Core Emergency Management (EMG) subjects 7 Core non-emg subjects 4 Restricted elective subjects Associate Degree exit option after 128 credit points. Cost $2,800 per 8 point subject unit.

Master of Emergency Management Offered by Charles Sturt University. Three year (6 session) distance education course. Pre-requisite undergraduate degree, preferably in EM, RM or allied degree, but not essential or post-graduate studies undertaken (Grad Cert, Grad Dip etc.). Cost approximately $3,200 per session.

Master of Emergency and Disaster Management Offered by Charles Darwin University on campus and by distance learning. Two year full time or four years part time course. This 160 credit point course requires: 8 core coursework units (100 credit points) comprising 6 theory units and a 40 credit point research project and 6 specialist electives (60 credit points) comprising 2 research methodology and 4 specialist units. Cost approximately 10 point unit core course is $2,056. Elective units are $1,096.

Master of Emergency and Disaster Management The course provides applied knowledge and skills at an advanced level, specific to the Australia, Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific region. A key feature of the course includes an emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach to managing effective responses to various types of emergencies and disasters, and also provides for a holistic, in-depth understanding of disaster cycle management including prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. The course provides the opportunity for fieldwork through a reflective practicum and negotiated research project experience.

What is happening nationally? Australian Emergency Management Institute (AEMI) at Mount Macedon closed down from 30 June 2015. All education and training is now located in Canberra as part of the Attorney General s department. A tender process was launched for private providers to provide emergency management training for the sector.

What is happening nationally? Announced on 12 August a consortium had been selected to deliver EMA s professional development courses and workshops, school education program, knowledge management services and volunteer support. The Australasian Fire and Emergency Services Authorities Council (AFAC), Australian Red Cross and the Bushfire and Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre will deliver emergency management products and services on behalf of Emergency Management Australia (EMA).

What is happening nationally? The consortium is in negotiation with the Attorney- General s Department with the aim of commencing the delivery of professional development products and services for the emergency management sector later this year. The Department still continues to welcome feedback about the delivery of services to the community through email via: AEMItransition@ag.gov.au
