SECTION 1 GENERAL 1 Objective The objective of this class programme (CP) is to provide a description for which the Society bases its approval of manufacturers intending to supply steel wire ropes in accordance with RU SHIP Pt.2 or other applicable standards provided by the Society. Section 1 2 Scope and application This programme is applicable for the approval of material manufacturers of:, as referred in the Society's rules and standards. For a description of general requirements, conditions and procedures related to the approval, please refer to DNVGL CP 0346 which shall be applied in combination with this programme. The product(s) used for approval testing (see Sec.3) will place limitations on the range of approval. The approval will be limited to: wire rope type wire rope construction maximum wire rope diameter core construction (i.e. fibre, steel etc.) lay type lay direction breaking load of the wire rope tensile strength grade of the wires of the wire rope However, test data supplied for one construction may cover wire ropes of other constructions in the same wire rope class (for definition of classes, see API 9A), provided tested and covered constructions have: same type of core same type of lay type and direction same wire shape, grade and finish same number of strands same construction type (see ISO 17893 Table 2), defined as follows: single lay types parallel lay types, divided as follows: seale warrington filler combined parallel lay (WS) types multiple operation lay types, divided as follows: cross lay compound lay. Approval will be given for the manufacture of products and materials in accordance with the Society's rule requirements. However, in case of absence of relevant rules and subject to prior agreement, approval may be given for the manufacture of products and materials specified in recognised standards. Starting material/semi-finished steel products shall be produced at works approved by the Society. Class programme DNVGL-CP-0255. Edition May 2016 Page 5
when wire rope manufacturer operates their own steel making and/or rolling facilities to produce their own pre-material (wires/billets/ingots etc.), the manufacturer shall also use separate approval programmes DNVGL CP 0242 or DNVGL CP 0243 to approve these facilities, as appropriate. when pre-materials for wire rope making are not produced by the wire rope manufacturer, these shall be procured from steelmaker/rolling mill correspondingly approved by the Society. 3 Request for approval When applying for AoM, the manufacturer shall indicate the wire rope constructions to be covered by the approval, including dimensions and other essential approval information as per [3]. For this a list or table shall be given, including at least: wire rope constructions and wire rope class/group detailed strand constructions and designations core type and designation applicable lay types and directions maximum diameter applicable strength grades specified minimum breaking load types of surface finish. SECTION 2 DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS 1 Documentation of manufacturing process and equipment 1.1 Wire manufacturing The following documentation shall be submitted: steel types and grades description of wire drawing equipment, processes, treatment and finish specification for diameter tolerances specification for tensile strength and tolerances testing and inspection requirements description of finishing/coating process material certificate from wire manufacturer. Section 2 1.2 Wire rope manufacturing The following documentation shall be submitted: method of lay, performing, closing, length of lay type of core lubrication sheathing (if applicable). 2 Test results and records Additional requirements for reporting of test results: Chemical composition: a summary of the sampling practices and methods for chemical analysis is to be submitted the chemical composition shall be reported in percentage by mass the report shall give the specified limits and the measured content of all the required elements. Tensile test: yield (or proof) stress, tensile strength, elongation shall be reported. Torsion test, reverse bend test and test to determine mass, uniformity and adhesion of zinc coating: test results shall be presented in a test report the applied test method and test parameters shall be stated in the report. Wire rope testing: the rope diameter, tested length and the applied load shall be reported. A copy of test machine calibration certificate shall be submitted. Where relevant, the result of the visual inspection shall be reported. Visual examination: report from visual inspection, dimensional measurements and surface condition. SECTION 3 APPROVAL TESTING 1 Test products and testing scope 1.1 General The test products shall be selected so that the testing will cover and qualify the full range of product types, grades, dimensions etc. for which approval is requested, see Sec.1 [3]. Section 3 1.2 Extent of approval testing For each selected product type, testing shall be carried out on at least two wire ropes where the first rope shall represent maximum diameter and the second rope should represent an average diameter of the wire rope size range for which approval is requested. 1.3 Selection and position of the test samples Approval testing shall be carried out on representative samples of wires and wire ropes for which approval is requested. Unless specified in the rules test parameters may be proposed by the manufacturer in advance and then agreed on case by case basis. Sketches, drawings, original test records and photos showing test samples and testing shall be submitted. 2 Testing requirements 2.1 Wire testing 2.1.1 The following tests shall be performed on individual wires in accordance with ISO 2232, or with an equivalent standard subject to agreement with the Society. The results shall comply with ISO 2232 or an equivalent standard subject to agreement with the Society. chemical composition tensile test elongation torsion test reverse bend test tests to determine mass, uniformity and adhesion of zinc coating. 2.2 Wire rope testing The following is required: two representative samples of the wire ropes selected for approval shall be break load tested by pulling a portion of the rope to destruction. The sample shall be tested to destruction or alternatively withstand the prescribed load for 30s without fracture. In the latter case the sample shall be visually inspected after unloading the rope diameter, tested length and the applied load shall be recorded. Where relevant, the result of the visual inspection shall be recorded. Class programme DNVGL-CP-0255. Edition May 2016 Page 8
2.3 Visual examination The following is required: the surveyor shall be invited for witnessing of the visual examination the manufacturer shall carry out a careful visual examination of the products submitted for approval purposes inspection shall be done for all applicable sides/areas, and manufacturer shall ensure that lifting devices for handling / turning of the component are available measurements shall be made on all applicable dimensions the surfaces shall be adequately prepared for inspection.
