2 Vencel Resil is one of the UK s largest manufacturer s of expanded polystyrene (EPS) and under the Jablite brand, supplies a range of bespoke insulation products and solutions to the construction, industrial and housebuilding markets. Vencel Resil specialises in providing industry-leading insulation solutions that meet current and future Building Regulations requirements for the specification of floors, walls and roofs of commercial, public sector and residential buildings. Established in 1973, the company has been a member of the Synbra Group since 1996. Synbra is a multi-national organisation specialising in producing high quality EPS products throughout Europe. Being part of a European group means having the benefit of access to extensive resources and technology. Technical support Vencel Resil provides technical and design support and has a dedicated team of professionals who have extensive experience of working in the industry. Many clients find the technical support they receive invaluable in ensuring that specifications are in line with modern building requirements. Being more than just a manufacturer of EPS products, it is the company s expertise within this sector and the knowledge within its team which establishes Vencel Resil as one of the leading providers of high performance insulation. Jablite a market leading insulation material Vencel Resil has a major UK manufacturing base, where its Jablite expanded polystyrene products can be produced to specific grades and thicknesses to suit clients needs. As such, the company is constantly seeking ways to enhance the performance of the range. Jablite EPS is a proven insulation material, widely regarded as one of the most effective on the market, offering high thermal performance, unrivalled sustainability credentials, long-term durability, whilst ensuring its cost effectiveness in the market. Jablite Premium Jablite Premium is an innovative Low Lambda (EPS) insulation material that has the capacity to enhance a building s thermal performance by up to 20%. This enables builders and contractors to meet ever tightening Building Regulations without having to change their build practices A relatively new innovation in EPS insulation, Jablite Premium is becoming widely used in the floors, walls and roofs of domestic, public sector and commercial buildings. Instantly recognisable by its distinctive grey board with orange speckles, it provides the reassurances to architects, specifiers and contractors that the material used on site is the same as the one specified and, crucially, that the resulting performance matches the approved design intent. A major benefit of Jablite Premium is that it offers improved U-values without having to alter the thickness of the cavity wall or change the construction of the floor or roof. This ensures contractors on site maintain their efficiency, whilst clients benefit from maximum internal floorspace and low running costs. BRE Green Guide to Specification The Green Guide, produced by the British Research Establishment (BRE), assesses a range of building products environmental performance over their full life-span and awards them with a sustainability rating. EPS has achieved an A+, which is the highest rating possible and clearly demonstrates the material s excellent thermal and environmental credentials. The BRE ranks materials on the basis that the benefit of using any of the insulation types listed in the guide will outweigh the embodied environmental impact of their manufacture, installation and end-of-life disposal. Environmental credentials Expanded polystyrene is recognised for its excellent energy efficiency and low environmental impact. It has an ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) of zero and a low GWP (Global Warming Potential), which is exemplary. Vencel Resil is fully committed to sustainability in all areas of its operation. Energy saving and modern methods of construction are all carefully considered when researching and developing new products, as well as end of life recyclability.
3Wall Insulation APPLICATION: Product: Jablite Premium board Jablite Premium board can be used between studs in timber frame wall constructions. The insulation can be placed wholly between the timbers or additional layers can be placed on the internal or external face of the framing. Jablite Premium board Jablite Premium board can be used within the studs of a timber frame wall to satisfy the relevant U value requirements. Easy to handle Jablite Premium board is manufactured from low lambda expanded polystyrene (EPS) which is lightweight and easy to handle on site. Permanent Jablite Premium board is rot-proof and durable and will remain effective for the life of the building. It also has the added advantage of being flood-proof. Rapid Construction No specialised trades or equipment are required. Environment Expanded polystyrene has been awarded an A+ rating by the BRE s Green Guide to Specification. Type Jablite Premium board for this application is supplied as EPS 70 as defined in BS EN 13163 Reaction to Fire Class E, containing a flame retardant additive. Dimensions Standard Size: 1200 x 2400mm Standard Thicknesses: 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 75, 100, 120, 150 and 200mm (Other thicknesses available to order). Fire When correctly installed Jablite Premium board incorporated into a timber frame wall will not affect the fire performance of the construction. All timber frame constructions require plasterboard or similar lining fixed to the internal surface to achieve appropriate fire ratings. The installation of Jablite Premium board into this form of construction is in accordance with BS 6203 Fire characteristics and fire performance of expanded polystyrene materials used in building applications. U-values The example below gives a typical timber frame wall construction incorporating Jablite Premium board Type 70E, which achieves a U-value of 0.22 W/m²K. This value is based on a k-value of 0.030W/mK for the insulation. 102.5mm brickwork Cavity (nominal 50mm) 10mm OSB or similar timber boarding 150mm Jablite Premium board Type 70E installed between 150 x 50mm studs at 600mm centres Vapour control layer 12.5mm plasterboard NB: This construction has been provided to give a typical example of insulated timber framed wall construction and should in no way be reproduced or used as a structural design solution.

5Wall Insulation APPLICATION: INSTALLATION The sheets of Jablite Premium board are cut to suit the void between the timber studs and fitted between. When the timber frame is constructed flat on the ground the Jablite Premium board may be placed before raising the timber wall into position to make fitting the insulation faster and easier. Vapour Control Layer An adequate vapour control layer should be provided on the warm side of the insulation. This can be in the form of minimum 1000 gauge polythene sheet, or foil backing on the plasterboard finish. Internal Finish The appropriate internal finish must be provided to achieve the required fire resistance in accordance with Building Regulation Approved Document B. Figure 23.2 1 2 3 4 5 1. Timber Frame Services It is permissible to accommodate services within the thickness of the insulation provided pipes etc are securely fixed to the structure. Jablite Premium board should not be allowed to come into direct contact with PVC-sheathed cables, nor closer than 12mm to hot water pipes. Cables can be secured to ensure contact does not occur, placed in conduit or covered with any material such as polythene DPM. Pipes should be independently lagged. The common solution for timber frame walls is to provide an air gap behind the internal lining large enough to accommodate all services. References BRE Report 262.
