BIOMAP http://biomapproject.eu/ Simona Verità - CISE Official Meeting of the Sector Group Intelligent Energy, Rimini, 9 th of November 2011
Biomap is European project financed under the mini Locare program with a duration of two years starting from January 2011. LoCaRe- Low Carbon Economy Regions ( http://www.locareproject.eu/wm315879 ) Six European regions have joined forces in a common initiative to reduce CO2 emissions regionally and locally. The objective is to develop low carbon solutions at regional and local level and contribute to economic growth at the same time. The six regions are: Region Syddanmark (Denmark), Västra Götalandsregionen (Sweden), Principado de Asturias (Spain), Regione Emilia-Romagna (Italy), Gorenjska (Slovenia) and Province of Zeeland (the Netherlands). Financed Project: BIOMAP CARBON CARE Improvement of Carbon Sequestration Practices in the Agricultural and Forestry Sector towards Low-Carbon Regional Energy Patterns ESA European Sustainability Ambassadors Local Commitment for Low Carbon Planning and Empowerment in Small Communities VACO2R Volontary Agreements for CO2 Reductions ZEROTRADE A Public Private Governance Model for a Zero Carbon
Why Biomasses RES 9% Coal 16% Gross inland consumption: share of renewable energy 9% (153 Mtoe) [Eu-27] Natural gas 24% Gross inland consuption in EU-27 (2009) Gross inland consumption: share of renewable energy 9,5% (16 Mtoe) [Italy, 2009] Nuclear power 14% Oil 37% On global scale, energy production from biomasses is largely inferior to its potential. There is room for action in enhancing the use of biomasses.
Objectives Stimulate biomass market potential for renewable energy production and other sustainable biomass applications; Engage with stakeholders and different ongoing initiatives to assess potential, identify threats and opportunities; Transfer knowledge and best practices among participants and within a broader ecosystem to support the business case for biomasses; Provide a tool to promote trading of biomasses.
