Statistica TM Interactive Visualizations & Dashboards Create a new dashboard Ribbon bar. On the Home tab, in the File group, click the New arrow and from the drop-down list, select Dashboard to display a new Dashboard. Classic menus. From the File menu, select New to display the Create New Document dialog box. Select the Dashboard tab, and click OK to display a new Dashboard. Connect to data In the new Dashboard, click the Edit link. If a data set was already open, the Main Dashboard view is displayed, populated with the contents of the data set. If a data set was not open, click the Edit link to display the Data Prep view of the Dashboard and the Connect to Data dialog box. Note that you can also click the New Data icon Connect to Data dialog box. on the toolbar of the Main Dashboard view to display the Select Statistica Spreadsheet, and browse to a spreadsheet and open it. The Data Table - Initial Settings dialog box is displayed. Define the initial settings, and click OK. The Data Prep view of the Dashboard is populated with the contents of the data file. 1
Define/refine the Statistica data table Click the Add data source icon adjacent to the data file name in the top-right panel of the Data Prep view to display the Connect to Data dialog box to add more data sources to the table. Click adjacent to the data file name in the top-left panel, and from the menu, select Settings to modify the table settings. When you select a column name (variable name) in the bottom panel, an arrow is displayed. Click the arrow to display a menu with actions you can carry out on the column. 2
For example, you can clean the values, execute string operations, or create new computed columns. Actions depend on the data type. Click the Review change operations icon revert the changes. to review column changes. Select a change and click Unapply to Click the OK button to display the Main Dashboard view, ready to add visualizations. At any time, you can select Data Table > Edit on the toolbar to return to the Data Prep view to edit the Statistica Data Table. Click the Pop out icon in the upper-right corner of the Data Prep view to display both the Main Dashboard view and the Data Prep view simultaneously. Edits to one are reflected in the other. At any time, click the Save icon on the toolbar to save the edits. Add a visualization Draw a rectangle on the dashboard canvas in the Main Dashboard view to create a visualization. A dialog box is displayed that contains Visualizations, Timeseries Visualizations, Legends & Filters, Layout, and General sections. Select a visualization. A skeleton image of the Visualization is displayed on the canvas. 3
Drag columns from the Data Table (the left panel of the Dashboard) to the visualization to define the hierarchical breakdown and visualization dimensions (e.g., color, X, Y, Size, and so on). Enhance the visualization Add legends Draw another rectangle and select the Color Legend icon image of the Legend is displayed on the canvas. in the Legends & Filters section. A skeleton Select the skeleton image to display the Drag to connect button. Drag the Drag to connect button to the Visualization. Add filters Draw another rectangle, and click the Filter Box icon of the Filter is displayed on the canvas. in the Legends & Filters section. A skeleton image Drag the text columns from the Data Table to the Filter box. Click Settings in the upper-right corner of the Filter box, and select a filter to define filter properties per field. 4
Switch between Design and Presentation modes Click the Presentation Mode icon on the toolbar to switch between Design and Presentation modes. Presentation Mode removes all the design elements and provides a clean, simplified display for interactive analysis. Use the Design Mode to add, edit, and remove Visualizations, Filters, and Legends. Save the dashboard For new Dashboards that have never been saved, this is a two-step process. Click the Close button in the topright corner of the Main Dashboard view, or select File > Exit on the toolbar. A message is displayed that prompts you to save changes. Click Yes. The Visualization is displayed in the New Dashboard window. Click the Close button. A message is displayed that prompts you to save the Dashboard. Click Yes to display the Save As dialog box, where you can name the Dashboard and choose the location in which to save it. When you edit an existing Dashboard, select File > Save on the toolbar, and then close the Main Dashboard view. The Visualization is displayed in the New Dashboard window. Click the Close button in the top-right corner of the Dashboard. Example dashboards There is a variety of example Dashboards in Statistica. On the Home tab, in the File group, click the Open arrow. From the menu, select Open Examples to display the Open a Statistica Data File dialog box. Doubleclick the Dashboards folder to open it, and double-click any file to open that Dashboard.
