Worrying doesn t prevent pregnancy: Plan B 1) 2) PLAN B can Emergency Contraception (Plan B ) can prevent a pregnancy after unplanned or unprotected sex. You can take Emergency Contraception up to five days after unprotected sex, but the sooner you take it, the more likely it is to work for you. Plan B should be used only in emergencies It is not a reliable, long-term method and will not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases. You can get Plan B by prescription from your doctor, at a local Family Planning health center or at some pharmacies. OTHER METHODS Anyone considering these methods should consult a health care provider. Natural Family Planning (rhythm method) Sterilization IUD This method requires a woman to keep track of her menstrual cycle and body signs to check for fertility. Many women choose this method because it follows their personal and religious beliefs. Natural family planning takes commitment and discipline. Sterilization is a permanent surgical procedure for people who do not want to become pregnant in the future. The tubes that carry sperm or eggs are cut or tied to keep them from being released. An IUD is a small device that is inserted into the uterus. The IUD prevents fertilization and implantation of the egg.
