ABOUT COL TIMBERS ABOUT COL TIMBERS The Coltimbers offers a wide range of quality timber products, from mouldings to ready-to-assemble products. Since opening its doors in 1940, Coltimbers has built a reputation for exceptional quality and service. New ownership by Swartland has resulted in a fusion of traditional craftsmanship and world-class manufacturing. Recently upgraded machinery in our sophisticated plant aims to reduce wastage and lower our environmental impact. Responsible FSC approved timber procurement practices ensure that precious resources are responsibly managed. Improved national distribution strives to make sure this range is always available at your nearest hardware merchant. All our products are CCA (copper chrome arsenic) treated to withstand the elements and pressure treatment is available on request. 2

MOULDINGS MOULDINGS Mouldings are a great way to create a sense of grandeur or add a simple and subtle decorative touch. The Coltimbers Range offers a wide selection of decorative hardwood and pine mouldings, skirtings, cornices, architraves and plinth blocks. What makes this range special is that we kiln-dry our wood to the ideal moisture content for your home, giving you the perfect combination of performance and design while adding charm and character to your home. OLD CAPE MOULDINGS Also known as Victorian mouldings these traditional styles and profiles are available in 3.0m and 3.6m lengths. We also custom make special lengths and profiles to suit your design. Ask your merchant to contact us to discuss your specific requirements. 3

MOULDINGS STANDARD MOULDINGS These popular mouldings are made from either SA pine or imported hardwood. MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) Mouldings are available in 2.745m lengths. The advantage of MDF boards is that they are free from knots, warping and splinters, thus offering 100% utilization, although they should only be used internally where a paint finish is required. External use cornice and high moisture areas is recommended. architrave picture rail skirting dado rail plinth block 4

Ut wisi enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exerci tation ullamcorper suscipit lobortis nisl ut aliquip ex ea.. PLANED-ALL-ROUND The secret to durable and long lasting PAR timber lies in the drying technique used. Not all timber is the same. Coltimber s PAR is kiln-dried to an 8% moisture content. This process helps keeps the wood in perfect balance with the atmospheric conditions, thereby stabilising the timber and minimizing movement. To maintain colour consistence all our wood comes from a single responsibly managed source. 11

INSTALATION GUIDES Recommended instructions for the installation of COL TIMBERS mouldings Always wear appropriate safety equipment when sawing or drilling solid wood or MDF mouldings. Do not fix MDF mouldings to a wet plastered wall. In high moisture areas, like bathrooms and kitchens, we recommend you use COL TIMBERS solid wood mouldings. For best results always use sharp, fine-toothed hand or power saws. We recommend that you use glued mitre joints rather than butt joints. Fix nails or screws at a maximum of 600mm intervals. Nails and screws should be countersunk and stopped with a shrink resistant wood stopping. The filled area must be sanded smooth prior to the final paint application. THE ECONOMICAL AND FAST METHOD. FIXING WITH NAILS To avoid splitting, do not nail nearer than 12mm from any edge. Threaded nails hold better than straight shank wire nails. THE LONG LASTING METHOD. FIXING WITH SCREWS Parallel shank screws (chip board type) are recommended. Always drill pilot holes to receive the screws. To avoid splitting, do not insert any screw nearer than 18mm from any edge. THE MODERN METHOD. FIXING WITH ADHESIVES Most modern glue and panel adhesives will work well eg: ALCOLIN FIX-ALL BOSTIK Mount it, Pattex NO MORE NAILS. Always follow the manufacturers instructions. 14

When your company has been in the family for three generations, you tend to think long term, and wonder what you ll be doing 60 years from now. (Hopefully the same, but bigger and better.) The world has changed since Oupa Hanekom started the company in the 1950 s, yet some things have remained steadfast; values like hard work and pride in one s craft. From the start the Hanekoms have been obsessed with the idea of continuous improvement, and this has driven the business ever since resulting in manufacturing that s world class and in a league of its own. We care about the products we make. It s our commitment and pride, and after three generations we ve turned it into a fine art. Swartland is our legacy, which is why we ve made sustainability such an important part of our business. We re planning to be around for quite a while, and insist that the environment is managed in a sustainable way.
