Printing in Mac OS X 0.8 Mountain Lion One of the major focuses for Apple in 0.8 Mountain Lion is in the area of security, affecting many products and devices by changing and restricting files and parts of the system that apps and drivers can access. This sandboxing approach improves the overall security of the system, but in some cases changes or eliminates the ability for apps and drivers to provide some of the same features and options that were previously available. Xerox is working to ensure the impacts from sandboxing and security are as minimal as possible, but in some cases some features and options may not be available in 0.8 Please see the individual release notes for your updated drivers for more information on any changes that may have been required. Another security change is the new Mountain Lion Gatekeeper feature, which allows users to control how new apps are installed from the web or email attachments. This allows a user a measure of security in that you can ensure only registered identified developers, or applications provided through the Apple App Store can be installed. You can of course choose an option to allow apps to be installed from anywhere, similar to how things work in older Mac OS s, or lock the system down to ONLY allow apps from the App Store. By default only signed developers Apps and drivers can be installed, and Xerox is working to ensure all the 0.8 installers and packages are fully signed and available. If your driver or installer has not yet been signed, check back periodically for updates. Scan Driver with Mac OS X 0.8 Some scan functionality is diminished in Mac OS X 0.8. In particular, scanning via the SMB protocol is no longer supported due to architectural changes in Mac OS X 0.8.
