An Ideal Location: Pemberton is 2 hours from Vancouver, and mere minutes from Whistler. Located in the Sea to Sky community of Pemberton - Sunstone Ridge is well situated to deliver a world class educational facility. It is just two hours north of scenic Vancouver, Canada s largest Pacific coast city, which is consistently ranked as one of the top three most liveable cities. Home to a major international airport, busy port and harbour, thriving economy and multicultural population, Vancouver serves as a gateway to the mountainous Sea to Sky region, and beyond. Travelling to Pemberton has never been quicker thanks to significant improvements made to the Sea to Sky highway for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. En route from Vancouver to Pemberton is Whistler, one of the world s premier skiing destinations and site of alpine and cross-country skiing, sliding sports and biathlon events for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Pemberton: A lush fertile valley at the foot of towering peaks. Pemberton is a strong, vibrant community with a population of just over 7,000 residents in the Village of Pemberton and surrounding area. Originally developed at the turn of the century as a result of forestry, agriculture and mining, the area is home to long-time locals, farmers, commuters working in nearby Whistler and a large number of young families. Residents value Pemberton s unique environment with its rural lifestyle, world-class activities and recreation and easy access to urban amenities. Sunstone Ridge hosted the Pemberton Music Festival in July 2008, which was attended by 40,000 people. The festival, headlined by music giants Coldplay, Tom Petty and Jay-Z, put Pemberton on the map for its scenic beauty. A short distance from Pemberton s town centre, the Sunstone Ridge site is comprised of 274-acres of rich farmland, forested hillside and is surrounded by a spectacular rock bluff, trees and staggering views of Mount Currie. In addition to an independent school, development plans for the site include single and multi-family homes, creating a desirable residential community nearby. Sunstone Ridge has the potential to become an epicenter for learning, living and recreation. The 39-acre school site itself, located above the valley floor within the Sunstone Ridge lands, has the zoning approval for a 250,000 square foot facility for educational use. An equestrian facility, farm garden, green spaces, parks and trails are all planned for the Sunstone Ridge development, benefiting students and the greater community. The Village of Pemberton is contemplating plans for a sports complex which could include playing fields, an ice rink and swimming pool on the adjacent lands. Photo: Toshi Kawano

A Learning Destination: Curriculum possibilities are endless. Pemberton s unique location provides a multitude of opportunities to enrich student learning through expanded curriculum offerings and extra-curricular activities. Pemberton is a hub of the environmentally responsible farming movement, with a growing number of farms attaining organic accreditation. Along with providing a clean, healthy environment for all valley residents, organic farming affords the school community with a unique opportunity to study sustainable agricultural practices. With an economy closely tied to it s abundant natural resources educational opportunities exist in the areas of mining, forestry, hydro-electric power production, fishing, and conservation. Minutes from the Sunstone Ridge site, the Pemberton Regional Airport accepts fixed wing and rotocraft vehicles. Local aircraft and helicopter companies operate out of the airport and offer commercial flights, scenic activities and flight training. Whistler and Pemberton are premier destinations for winter sports. Whistler Blackcomb is consistently ranked as the leading ski resort in North America and provides access to terrain and facilities that are among the best in the world. Training opportunities for emerging athletes are numerous with access to top-level instruction and coaching in the sports of downhill skiing and snowboarding, crosscountry skiing, bobsled, luge, skeleton, biathlon and ski jumping. Learn to play. Play to learn: Building life skills and positive values. Just beyond Pemberton s borders lie extraordinary wilderness areas for backcountry excursions. Joffre Lakes Provincial Park, Tenquille Lake, the Cayoosh Mountains, and world-class fishing destinations such as Tyaughton and Spruce Lakes are all within easy day-trip access. The Pemberton Valley is home to two golf courses, including Big Sky Golf and Country Club with an award-winning golf academy. Three more world-class courses are located in Whistler, a short drive away. Pemberton is also home to a full-service airport and flight academy, providing the future school with potential educational opportunities. As a result of this elite athletic environment, medical facilities and personnel in the Sea to Sky Corridor are excellent. Pemberton has an active equestrian community. Equestrian training facilities with world class instruction are located just ten minutes from the school site. The potential exists for a local equestrian centre to partner with the Sunstone Ridge school to provide students with beginner through to competition-level equestrian training as well as horse boarding. Sunstone Ridge also has the zoning for an equestrian centre on site, if desired. Photos: Big Sky Golf Course, randy Lincks, Dave Steers Pemberton is an amazing place to live. The scenery is beautiful, and we have access to some of the best outdoor recreation in the world. Athletes that train here develop the skills necessary to succeed on an international level. That s why many of the best athletes call Pemberton home or come here to play. Ashleigh McIvor, Olympic Gold medalist
A Smart Business Decision: Support for a boarding school at Sunstone Ridge is over whelming. BC is a premier destination for education. Due in part to wellestablished immigration from Asia and around the world as well as attractive subsidies and programs for institutions, 94,000 international students are currently enrolled in BC institutions. BC Premier Christy Clark, recently announced further initiatives to increase the inflow of international students by 50%. There is currently no boarding school operating in the province that offers the equestrian, agricultural, mountain / backcountry access and elite sporting opportunities that a school on the Sunstone Ridge site can. Existing schools in the province are operating at near capacity, many with waiting lists in place. In addition to the large numbers of overseas students who choose to study in BC, there is a population of six million people living within a 200-mile radius, encompassing the US city of Seattle and the pacific Northwest region. Within the Sea to Sky Corridor from Squamish to Pemberton the educational options are limited largely to the public school system. Parents looking for an internationally focused curriculum must send their children outside their community. Local parents and students alike are calling for a local independent school to meet this demand. The critical mass needed to support a new residential school is assured. Combined with the support of the BC Government and strong public support locally, the case for a school on the Sunstone Ridge site is clear. With Sunstone Ridge removed from urban influences, yet close to the sophisticated amenities of Whistler, the school s location strikes a perfect balance. Whistler functions as both a winter and summer resort destination, enabling visiting family members to vacation with their child close to the school site, with a wealth of recreational opportunities close at hand.
