I attended San Francisco State University (B.A.) and the University of San Diego where I earned my Master of Arts in Counseling/PPS credential. I have had the pleasure of working in PUSD for over 10 years at approximately 10 different elementary schools. I am currently the school counselor at Stone Ranch and Del Sur, as well as at the PUSD s Caring Connections Center. I believe whole-heartedly that every child needs a champion in order to succeed not just in school but in life! I strive to be each of your child s champions! In my leisure time I enjoy the outdoors, running, hiking, yoga and spending time with my family. About Me

What Does A School Counselor Do?
Counseling Services: Classroom Guidance- An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Counselors attempt to prevent unfavorable situations before they occur and/or address appropriate decision making skills. I work with an entire class on specific skills, such as empathy, conflict resolution, emotion management, study skills (Second Step Curriculum) Small Group Counseling and Guidance- In some instances, students help each other by working in small groups (usually 3-6 students) with leadership from the counselor. Group counseling allows students to share ideas about specific issues such as peer relationships, self-esteem, death, and divorce. Individual Counseling and Guidance- Counselors work with students individually on specific educational and personal concerns. The primary purpose of these sessions is to help students explore their concerns, make appropriate plans of action, and follow through with these plans.
Why Do We Need Elementary School Counselors? Counselors Help Students: Adjust to a new school/grade/teacher. Find answers to their concerns. Make school a more rewarding and successful experience by fostering a positive relationship with another adult at school. Develop and enhance skills in decision making, problem solving, conflict resolution, and interpersonal communication. Develop good study habits and achieve a higher academic performance. Help students with career development. Counselors Help Parents: Coordinate the efforts of home and school. Discuss specific issues related to children such as attitudes towards school, academic growth, personal and emotional development, relationships with other students, and reactions to changes in family circumstances. Provide a link between families and community services when necessary. Help find early solutions to students' problems.
