So what is Charity Car? Charity Car is the new scheme from the UK's largest car recycling network - CarTakeBack.com Ltd - that allows people to turn their old car into a cash donation to the charity of their choice. Customers who call the Charity Car information line or visit www.charitycar.co.uk can choose whether to deliver their car to a local CarTakeBack Recycling Centre or arrange for it to be collected, free of charge, from their home. We seek to maximise the value of all cars donated through the scheme by directing them down the most appropriate route. Where a car still has some miles left in it, we'll arrange for it to be sold to the highest bidder. And where a car truly has reached the end of the road, it will be recycled in line with the latest regulations and a DVLA Certificate of Destruction will be issued, freeing the customer of any liability. But here's the best part; unlike other schemes in operation, CarTakeBack.com will return 100% of the market value of every scrap car to the customer's chosen charity. In fact, CarTakeBack.com has already handled donations of over quarter of a million pounds in scrap cars alone. We've also seen cars that still have some miles left in them, raise figures in the thousands on our online auction. For these cars, we take a low auction fee to cover our costs, which is fixed, regardless of the final hammer price. So, if you're interested in donations finding their way to your organisation, keep reading to find out more about joining in with Charity Car, or alternatively you can call us on 0844 669 6889 or e-mail us at info@cartakeback.com. www.charitycar.co.uk 2 info@cartakeback.com
It's easy to join in with Charity Car As an Official Partner to Charity Car, we'll create a dedicated page for you on the Charity Car website. To do this, all we need is a few details from you, such as your contact details, how you intend to use the donations that you'll receive, and some background information on your organisation. To help you promote your participation in the scheme we'll also give you a marketing toolkit containing a selection of text and images, including the Charity Car Official Partner logo, which you can use in your own advertising. We take care of all of the physical arrangements relating to the collection or delivery of the customer's car, deal with any queries the customer may have, handle all of the legal paperwork, the sale of cars at auction and, of course, for all cars which are recycled, we do so without any harm to the environment. We'll provide a monthly report to you, containing details of all cars accepted during the previous month, along with each customer's details. Each report will be accompanied by remittance advice, containing the total amount that is due to you for each car we've accepted. And we aim to have payment in your bank account within 7 days. For peace of mind, we'll write to customers to confirm that their donation has been made. You'll also have the customer's contact details should you wish to thank them for their donation. To become an Official Partner of Charity Car, or for more information, please call us on 0844 669 6889 or e- mail us at info@cartakeback.com. www.charitycar.co.uk 3 info@cartakeback.com
Key points of the Charity Car scheme Charity Car gives customers a hassle free way to dispose of their old car whilst doing something great for a worthy cause. Charity Car customers can deliver their old car to any one of their nearest CarTakeBack car recycling centres without an appointment, giving freedom of choice. Charity Car customers can arrange for their old car to be collected at a time that suits them, meaning they don't even need to leave their home to donate with Charity Car. Charity Car maximises the donation, by either selling the car to the highest bidder at auction, or recycling the car at one of CarTakeBack s scrap car recycling centres. Charity Car gives 100% of each scrap car's market value to the customer's chosen charity, meaning the charity gets the maximum amount of money available. Charity Car takes a low fee to cover the cost of selling cars at auction, which won't increase just because the sales value increases, meaning the chosen charity gets more money. Charity Car handles the payment to the charity for all cars accepted, so customers can donate to their chosen charity without even having to open their cheque book or pay for a stamp. Charity Car takes care of all of the administrative arrangements, at no cost to the customer. Charity Car ensures that all scrap cars are issued with an official DVLA Certificate of Destruction freeing the customer of their liability for the car. Charity Car recycles all scrap cars in line with the End of Life Vehicle Regulations and without harm to the environment. Each one of CarTakeBack's 300 car recycling centres has been licensed as an Authorised Treatment Facility by one of the UK's environmental agencies. www.charitycar.co.uk 4 info@cartakeback.com
It's not just the charity that benefits with Charity Car Donating an old car to Charity Car doesn't just help the charity receiving the cash. Taking old cars off the road can also be of benefit to the environment, our health and to society - as long as it's done correctly. We've outlined some of the many benefits below. Donating an old car through Charity Car can prevent harm to the environment All scrap cars donated through Charity Car are recycled at a CarTakeBack Recycling Centre, where we remove the hazardous materials including oils, batteries and tyres, which would cause serious environmental damage if they ended up down the drain or in landfill. We estimate that 2 million cars are scrapped each year, but as many as a quarter may be treated by unlicensed operators that work outside the law. Donating an old car through Charity Car can increase recycling Not all operators bother to meet the tough recycling targets set by the government, due to the added costs of doing so, and would rather risk prosecution instead. All scrap cars donated through Charity Car are recycled in line with the regulations. So far, CarTakeBack's 300 recycling centres have diverted nearly 200,000 tonnes of recyclable material away from landfill. Recycling an old car with Charity Car can help lower carbon emissions Older cars were built at a time when fuel costs were lower, fuel consumption was higher and few people had ever heard of a Carbon Footprint. Older, less fuel efficient, cars emit much more CO₂ than newer cars. In fact, the Government claimed that the new cars sold through the recent scrappage scheme emitted almost a third less CO₂ than the old cars that they replaced. Donating an old car through Charity Car is good for your health 12 years ago, when the average car being scrapped today came off the production line, we didn't know as much about the harmful effects that cars can have on our health as we do now. Older cars emit a cocktail of poisonous gases, and over time, the effect of all of those miles clocked up driving to work and dropping the kids off at school, makes these emissions even worse. Donating an old car through Charity Car can make our roads safer Older cars, by their nature, are likely to have covered many thousands of miles, have worn components and can become expensive to maintain. The combination of age related wear and a lack of maintenance can mean many old cars are unsafe. For example, tired old brakes alone can dramatically increase stopping distances, sometimes with drastic consequences. Donating an old car through Charity Car helps cut car crime Modern car alarms and immobilisers are extremely good. In fact, it's almost impossible to steal a modern car without its key. Older cars do not have such stringent security measures and are therefore more likely targets for car crime. And the problem only gets worse. Stolen cars are uninsured, usually untaxed and often abused and in a poor state of repair. They also enable other criminal activities like drug running or joy riding and often end up burned out, releasing hazardous chemicals into our environment. www.charitycar.co.uk 5 info@cartakeback.com

CarTakeBack.com Limited - the organisation behind Charity Car CarTakeBack.com Limited was formed in 2005, in response to the End of Life Vehicle Directive. The directive sought to improve the recyclability of scrap cars and to reduce the impact they had on the environment. Since that time, CarTakeBack has processed nearly 2 million scrap cars, with a year on year increase in numbers. CarTakeBack's nationwide network has now grown to over 300 recycling centres. The End of Life Vehicle regulations placed obligations on the car makers to provide last owners of scrap cars with an accessible network of Authorised Treatment Facilities to accept and treat qualifying cars free of charge and attain the legislated recycling targets on all cars processed. Each one of CarTakeBack's 300 car recycling centres has been licensed as an Authorised Treatment Facility by one of the UK's environmental agencies. Authorised Treatment Facilities are required to issue DVLA Certificates of Destruction on all scrap cars. This electronic document frees the last owner of responsibility and provides assurance that their car has been disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner, in accordance with the law. Today, we are proud to be the largest car maker approved network in the United Kingdom. Our car recycling centres have been exclusively approved by car makers representing over 70% of cars on the road, and we extend this first class car recycling service to customers- whatever their brand of car. Under the Government scrappage scheme, together with our Authorised Treatment Facility partners, we handled over 190,000 cars from the 400,000 surrendered. Within the scheme we organised collections, payments, invoicing, electronic DVLA Certificates of Destruction, Hazardous Waste Consignment Notes and, of course, achieved the recycling targets. Our service is used by the police, local authorities, the Insolvency Service, car dealerships, car auction houses, Webuyanycar.com and the general public, all seeking a professional company who can return maximum value. We are specialists in car collection and recycling; our scope and experience in this field is second to none. www.charitycar.co.uk 7 info@cartakeback.com
