6 >> A lease&care agreement A general overview. A lease&care agreement consists of an Operating Lease agreement for your vehicle and a lease agreement for your battery. In addition to the benefits of an Operating Lease agreement you also receive the following for your battery: >> sale&care Own the car you want to own, without the responsibility of owning the battery it runs on. A valuable aspect of your lease&care agreement is Battery Care Cover which is included as standard. This means that you have the peace of mind of knowing that the battery within your new smart fortwo electric drive will have the care it requires. If the battery falls below 80% of its capacity, we will replace the battery for you, providing you have followed the manufacturer s and Official Workshop (smart Retailer) (where relevant) recommendations as set out in the handbook. Battery capacity will be measured during battery maintenance when we ll give you diagnostic information about the battery. In addition, your Battery Care Cover will include all recommended battery maintenance and servicing, as well as any preventative treatment checks which may be required. We will carry out any work needed to keep your battery in good working condition too. This will include a high voltage battery check every 12 months or 12,400 miles (whichever comes first). Plus a battery drying cartridge replacement every 24 months or 24,800 miles (whichever comes first). As a lease&care customer, you will also benefit from sale&care move. This includes enhanced breakdown cover exclusive to your smart fortwo electric drive 3rd generation, for the life of your battery lease agreement. The smart fortwo electric drive 3rd generation comes with a standard three year warranty, and the sale&care move further expands the benefits and features of the traditional two year smartmove assistance provided to smart vehicles. sale&care move benefits include: > > Breakdown > > Within the first three years, the vehicle is fully covered for any breakdown situation, and the repairs are covered under the manufacturer s warranty > > For the years which remain, up to ten years, the vehicle is also fully covered for any breakdown situation, up to the point where workshop diagnosis is complete. 8 >> Questions and Answers Q. Can I get help choosing the right finance package? A. Our Business Managers are trained vehicle funding specialists who are happy to discuss your motoring and personal needs to establish the most suitable financial package for you. Q. Over what period can I finance my vehicle? A. Our products are flexible with terms available between 12 to 48 months based on the finance product you choose and whether you take advantage of our nationally promoted low rate finance campaigns. Q. Do I need to pay a deposit? A. In most cases, yes. This will depend on the finance product you choose and the amount you borrow. The higher your deposit, the lower your monthly payments will be. Q. What options do I have at the end of my Agility agreement? A. The options at the end of your Agility agreement are: > > Purchase your smart. Simply pay the Optional Purchase Payment which is equal to the guaranteed future value. The vehicle will now be yours. > > Hand back your smart leaving you free to take out another agreement or purchase another car. You have no more obligations other than any agreed excess mileage or damage charges. > > Purchase and part-exchange your smart for a brand new one. (You may benefit if the market value is greater than the guaranteed future value). Q. How does my mileage affect my agreement? A. The mileage of your vehicle will only affect your finance agreement if you have chosen an Agility or Personal Lease product. At the beginning of your agreement your annual mileage is used to estimate the value of your vehicle when your agreement ends. If you exceed this mileage allowance (shown on your finance agreement), there will be an excess mileage charge to pay, which is calculated on a pence-per-mile basis. Therefore it is important that you set your mileage as accurately as possible at the start of the agreement. Q. What is a guaranteed future value? A. At the start of your Agility agreement your Business Manager will set a guaranteed future value (optional purchase payment) for the vehicle based on your contract term and anticipated mileage. By adding a guaranteed future value your monthly payments are reduced as they are calculated on a proportion of the vehicle cost. This can also offer you peace of mind in the event that if the market value of your vehicle at the end of the agreement is lower than this guaranteed value you can choose to simply hand the vehicle back to smart without making this final payment. See page 9 and 10 for Agility example. Q. What is the Purchase Activation fee? A. Our Agility agreements will include a purchase activation fee, this is paid if you decide you want to own your vehicle and exercise your right to purchase, at the end of the agreement. If you have a hire purchase agreement this fee is referred to as the Option to Purchase fee. Q. Will I have to pay any fees? A. Our standard fees are: Acceptance Fee 140 applicable to all finance agreements and Purchase Activation Fee/Option to Purchase fee 95 on Agility and Hire Purchase Finance agreements. Your acceptance fee covers the cost of carrying out vital checks into the history of your vehicle and registering your legal interest in it, in order to protect you from the possibility of fraud. If you buy a vehicle through an unsecured lender, you will not have this facility and the security that it gives. The acceptance fee you pay provides you with total peace of mind and the freedom to enjoy your new car. > > Any used vehicle accepted by Finance from smart is checked by HPI or Experian (credit reference agencies) to confirm that it is not an insurance write-off and that no other finance company has a financial interest in it. > > Once you have taken delivery of your vehicle, we register it with HPI or Experian, protecting you from any future fraudulent loan applications against your vehicle purchase. This ensures that any future enquiry on the vehicle will link the ownership to you and show who has an interest in it. > > We search the electoral register and national credit register when we process your application. This protects you from the danger of misrepresentation or fraud. > > We deal with all the paperwork required and process your agreement to ensure funds are dispatched to your Retailer promptly, so that your Retailer can release your vehicle. Q. Will the interest rate change throughout my agreement? A. No, our offers are fixed rate agreements, so you ll know exactly what you ll be paying from the beginning to the end of your agreement. Q. My company has opted out of a company car scheme and I now have a monthly allowance. Which finance options would be best for me? A. Agility and Personal Lease are both suitable if you are opting out of a company car scheme. Our Business Managers will help you choose a vehicle and monthly payment to match your allowance and with these products you can also benefit from the advantage of protection from depreciation. For additional peace of mind your allowance may even stretch to cover service plans and insurance. You can still simply hand the car back at the end of your agreement, and switch to driving the latest model. Q. Can I pay off my loan early? A. You have the right to early-settle loans regulated by the Consumer Credit Act and interest rebates due to you would be calculated in accordance with Consumer Credit formulae and regulations. Q. What does APR mean? A. APR stands for Annual Percentage Rate. When you borrow money on an agreement regulated by the Consumer Credit Act, lenders are required by law to quote this rate, which calculates the total amount of interest that will be paid over the whole term of the loan while taking into account any additional charges that the borrower has to pay. The APR allows you to compare the cost of finance from different lenders. Q. In the past other lenders have not offered me the advertised APR, is this likely to happen with Finance Packages from smart? A. Other lenders may offer you a higher APR to the one you applied for based on your credit status. With our Finance where we advertise an APR, this is the APR you will receive if your credit application is successful. Q. How can I cover on-going maintenance costs? A. smart have a number of service plans that are designed to make servicing as convenient and affordable as possible. Monthly payments remain the same throughout the term of your plan, allowing you to easily budget for your car s servicing. All servicing and repairs are carried out by our smart Official Workshops, guaranteeing the highest quality of specialist service for your car. If you have the option to return your vehicle under your finance agreement, it must be maintained by a smart Official Workshop only.
