PLANET Access Point / Router How to configure the wireless range extender WNAP-1110 in Windows 7?
Wireless signals are affected by various environmental factors such as obstructions (walls, microwave ovens, furniture, etc). There will be some areas in the house beyond the wireless coverage of your original access point. Please follow he procedures below to extend the wireless coverage by WNAP-1110. Step by Step: Before starting to configure the WNAP-1110, please figure out the necessary information below. 1. The name of the existed wireless signal (also called as SSID) 2. The password of the SSID 3. The wireless encryption type of the SSID 4. To enter into the web UI of WNAP-1110, it is necessary to manually configure a fixed IP address for the computer in the same range with the WNAP-1110 default IP address. To configure a fixed IP address for the computer in Windows XP, please refer to the Chapter 3 of the WNAP-1110 user manual for detailed operation. And keep continuing from the Step 6 below. Now we take the configuration of Windows 7 for example. Step 1. Please connect a computer to the WNAP-1110 via RJ-45 port for configuration purpose. Click Start (in the lower left corner of the screen), and click Control Panel. Then choose View network status and tasks. 2
Step 2. Choose Change adapter settings. 3
Step 3. Right-click Local Area Connection and choose Properties. Step 4. In the Networking tab of Local Area Connection Properties window, highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties button. 4
Step 5. Configure a fixed IP address for your computer manually. 1) Choose Use the following IP address. 2) Enter 192.168.1.xxx (xxx is any integer between 2 to 254.) into the IP address filed, 255.255.255.0 into the Subnet mask. (Here we take xxx=123 for example.) 3) Click OK button to save the settings, and then close all the windows before. Step 6. Open the web browser (ex: Windows Internet explorer) and enter 192.168.1.1 in the web address field. Input the default username/password as admin/admin in the field. Then you will access into the web UI of WNAP-1110 successfully. 5
Step 7. Choose Wireless, and select Universal Repeater in Operation Mode. Step 8. Click Search button to site survey the available local AP/Router. Choose the AP/Router you want to connect with, and click Connect. The related information of the AP will be copied into the corresponding fields. Then click Save button. 6
Step 9. Choose Wireless security, and then choose the corresponding wireless encryption type of your existed AP/Router. Enter the correct password, and then click Save button. 7
Step 10. Now follow the red instructions to reboot the WNAP-1110. Step 11. Re-configure the IP address of your computer to Obtain an IP address automatically. 8
Step 12. Please refer the figure below. If the DHCP server of the existed AP/Router is enabled and your computer can obtain an IP address from it, you should be able to surf the Internet via the LAN port of WNAP-1110 successfully. And you can also move WNAP-1110 far away from the existed AP/Router, and use you Wi-Fi devices (ex: iphone, ipad, etc.) to site survey the same SSID of the existed AP/Router (ex: biafae) which is broadcast by WNAP-1110 for users to connect with the Internet wirelessly. Remark: In the example above, the IP address of the computer assigned by your existed AP/Router is 192.168.1.xxx. It is in the same range with WNAP-1110 (192.168.1.1). Therefore, even you did not manually configure an IP address for your computer, the computer can also access into the web UI of WNAP-1110. And please also notice that the IP address of your existed AP/Router (above ex: 192.168.1.33) cannot be the same with it of WNAP-1110. (192.168.1.1) However, if your existed AP/Router (ex: 192.168.20.1) assigned an IP address for the computer in different range (ex: 192.168.20.xxx) from WNAP-1110 (192.168.1.1), you can still surf the Internet via WNAP-1110 successfully. But you cannot access into the web UI of WNAP-1110 until manually configuring a fixed IP address (192.168.1.xxx) for your computer. (At this moment, the Internet connection will be down temporarily until you resume the configuration as obtaining an IP address (ex: 192.168.20.xxx) automatically.) 9
