You will study in small groups and interact with your colleagues and your facilitator via a web based classroom. There is no need to be online at a particular time - you can visit the classroom each week at times that suits you. What do you need in order to study online? To study online you need regular access to a computer with a reliable internet connection either at home, at the university, at work or at a local Internet Cafe. Blackboard Learn requires the latest version of Sun JRE 6. The JRE can be downloaded from http://java.sun.com/ javase/downloads/index.jsp. SETTING ASIDE STUDY TIME You should be prepared to spend a minimum of 75 hours studying each 3-credit point unit of study. Some units are studied online over a 7-week period which equates to around 10-11 hours per week. Other 6-credit point units (e.g. Introductory Biostatistics) are completed with 14 weeks of online study which equates to about 10-15 hours per week.

Online study can be undertaken virtually anywhere... Entry requirements for the three courses in the Public Health Management Program are as follows: Graduate Certificate in Public Health (GradCertVPH) Bachelors degree in veterinary science, animal science or equivalent, OR Minimum of 4 years work experience in a relevant discipline with approval of the Dean. Graduate Diploma in Public Health (GradDipVPH) Bachelors degree in veterinary science, animal science or

equivalent; OR Graduate Certificate in Public Health. Master of Public Health (MVPH) Bachelors degree with Honours in veterinary science, animal science or equivalent, ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS Students who can provide proof that their previous tertiary studies were conducted entirely in the medium of English are not required to provide further proof of English proficiency. VPHMgt requires a minimum IELTS of 7.0 with Writing and Speaking bands of 7.0 OR TOEFL 600 plus TWE 5.0 OR Computer-based TOEFL 250 plus Essay Rating 5.0. For information on IELTS see www.ielts.org Many students find that they feel more comfortable enrolling in the Graduate Certificate or the Graduate Diploma in the first instance to see how they go in the early semesters before committing to the full Masters program. The Public Health Program has given me an in-depth insight into a variety of disciplines within veterinary public health that I never became fully familiarised with during my BVSc degree. Amongst all these disciplines, I have now developed a strong interest in veterinary epidemiology and food safety. It has really opened up my mind and become a stepping stone to developing my career further. PUBLIC HEALTH STUDENT PROFILES JASON CHAN OFFICER HONG KONG GOVERNMENT ENROLMENT Do I need to come to Sydney to enrol? No, the Postgraduate Coursework Office will ask you to fill in a form authorising them to act as your proxy for the enrolment process. In this way you can enrol in the program without having to come on-campus. You can also attend the on-campus enrolment if you wish. FLEXIBLE ENROLMENT AND TRANSFER OF CANDIDATURE We understand that many postgraduate students have work and family pressures on their time. The flexible delivery of this program allows you to enrol in as few units of study as you need in order to make your study manageable. The full Master s degree can be taken over a maximum of 8 semesters or more with permission from the Dean. You will need to obtain a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 70, in your first 24 credit of study in VPHMgt to proceed to the full Masters program. In the unlikely event that you do not achieve this WAM, you can still graduate with a Graduate Diploma. Training in epidemiology, data analysis and animal health economics has provided me with the skills and the confidence to broaden my veterinary career. I feel like I m at the coal face of tackling some big issues, and I m loving it!
