Certification Policy Browser Certification Approach [page 15] Ariba certifies Ariba On-Demand Solution releases on the most commonly used web browsers. Ariba Platform Support Terminology [page 16] This topic describes the terminology Ariba uses to indicate the various levels of browser certification and support. Browser Certification Approach Ariba certifies Ariba On-Demand Solution releases on the most commonly used web browsers. Ariba certifies browser versions that pass rigorous testing, including regression testing and stress testing. Ariba releases are tested on multiple versions of browsers in a variety of operating environments. Ariba sometimes discovers bugs in browsers. When we discover a bug in a browser, we report the bug to the vendor and work toward a solution. We might attempt to work around the bug in our software. For the best experience possible, users are encouraged to use the latest browser versions available. Ariba actively monitors the browsers and versions used by our users in Ariba On-Demand solutions. When a vast majority of users are using an older version, Ariba will make reasonable attempts to support those users. The following table describes the timelines Ariba attempts to follow for browser version certification. The timelines are subject to change. Table 2: Approximate Timelines for Browser Version Certification Browser Apple Safari Version Certification Timeline Certify the latest available browser version within 90 days from when the browser version is released. Notify customers about deprecating support of a browser version six months prior to deprecation. Discontinue support for a version no fewer than six months after the browser vendor discontinues support. Google Chrome Certify the latest available version and the two most recent previous versions. Perform certification every two months. Discontinue support for a version no fewer than six months after the browser vendor discontinues support. Mozilla Firefox Certify the latest available version and the two most recent previous versions. Perform certification every two months. Discontinue support for a version no fewer than six months after the browser vendor discontinues support. How Ariba Makes Certification and Deprecation Decisions The Ariba browser certification strategy is to certify new versions of browsers for the current and upcoming releases of Ariba solutions, and to proactively deprecate and subsequently drop support for older browser versions. Ariba certifies only major versions and cumulative service packs of browsers and does not certify individual patches or fixes. When deciding on specific versions of browsers to test and qualify, Ariba takes the following factors into consideration: Market trend including market share and adoption rate The quality and stability of the browser version releases Browser version use via browser tracking in Ariba On-Demand Solutions Vendor support and obsolescence timeline Known security issues with a browser near the time when the vendor plans to discontinue support for it Ariba Platform Support Terminology This topic describes the terminology Ariba uses to indicate the various levels of browser certification and support. Certified: The specified configuration is tested by Ariba Quality Assurance and is supported by Ariba Customer Support, Engineering, and Quality Assurance. The type and amount of test coverage to qualify a browser version is determined by Ariba. Ariba highly recommends that users run the latest releases of Ariba-certified browser versions in their production and test environments. when customers are using Ariba-certified browsers. All Ariba Customer Support issue resolutions are done on Ariba-certified platform configurations.. Limited support: Ariba Customer Support provides assistance to customers using certain types or versions of software platforms that have not been fully certified by Ariba Quality Assurance if the following conditions apply: Service-pack updates for web browsers: Ariba makes every attempt to certify the latest available cumulative service packs for browsers with each Ariba release. However, newer service packs may be released by the vendors which have important security fixes. Ariba Customer Support supports customers using the latest minor release service packs for all browsers certified by Ariba. If you believe your browser meets this criteria, you can contact Ariba Customer Support to determine the level of assistance available to you. Deprecated: Ariba currently supports the specified browser version, but support will be discontinued in a subsequent release of the Ariba solution.
