TEACHING AS A SECOND CAREER Sponsored by the Presentation Sisters Presentation College is offering a (7-12) Secondary Education Teaching Certificate (South Dakota licensure only) program. This is a one-year, accelerated format class meeting every Wednesday from 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm (CST) allowing you to earn your Teaching Certificate in the areas of History, Business, Psychology, English or Biology. Tuition is greatly reduced. The package price of $1,000 per month includes tuition, fees, textbooks and the Praxis PLT exam.

More details about the licensure exams - The Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) exam covers basic Reading, Writing and Math. - The Praxis II exam covers these specific content areas: Business, Biology, English, History and Psychology. - Content exam results must be received by August 1. - Praxis exams are offered in Aberdeen in November, January, March, April, June and July (other testing sites are also available). - These tests must be successfully completed prior to admittance into the program. - Students may repeat the Praxis as many times as needed, at their expense. - In addition, the Praxis Learning and Teaching (PLT) exam is the final licensure exam taken during student teaching. FAQs Q. Will I have to do outside work? A. Yes, there are outside reading assignments and work to do during the week. Q. Is the program accredited? A. Yes, the Presentation College Education Department is accredited by the South Dakota Department of Education and the College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission/North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Q. Is a minimum College cumulative G.P.A required for graduation? A. You must maintain a Presentation College 2.7 cumulative G.P.A to progress and graduate from the TASC program. Q. Will I be able to continue to work while I go to school? A. Yes, for awhile. Classes are held each Wednesday night, in addition to some online components. However, student teaching begins March 13, 2013 which consists of 8 hours per day, Monday thru Friday. At that point, holding outside employment during the work week is unlikely. Q. Can I student teach in my local area? A. Yes, if the school district has a qualified cooperating teacher, space availability and the proper approval process is completed prior to the student teaching experience. Q. Is a background check required? A. Yes, a background check is completed the first day of class and an additional FBI background check is performed prior to the student teaching experience. Q. How long does it take to get my Praxis Test results? A. Test results are usually received within 2-3 weeks of the test date. Q. How much does the Praxis tests cost me out of pocket? A. The Praxis Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) costs $170 and the Praxis II Content exam ranges between $80-$100, both at the student s expense. Q. Where will I be licensed to teach? A. Tuition & financial aid Information The Financial Aid Process 1. You will need your Department of Education PIN to complete the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you do not have one or do not know your PIN, please visit www.pin.ed.gov. 2. Complete the FAFSA by going to www.fafsa.ed.gov. Presentation College s school code is 003467 3. You will receive e-mail notification from the Presentation College Financial Aid Office once your initial award is available for on-line access. A student may receive Federal Workstudy and Stafford, Perkins and PLUS loans if enrolled at least half-time in required teacher certification coursework. Deferment for current student loans may be available. Contact your lender for details. The 12-month TASC program costs $12,000, which includes tuition, fees, textbooks and Praxis PLT exam.
