Welcome Welcome to the new Optex Event-Driven CCTV catalogue. Optex is known as one of the world s leading manufacturers of high performance infrared detectors that are reliable and affordable, but for many Optex is a new name in CCTV even though we have been producing Event-Driven CCTV products for many years. In 2001 Optex purchased Security Enclosures Ltd. - famous for its Redwall Range. This is a demonstration of our commitment to becoming a market leader in the Event-Driven CCTV field. Event-Driven CCTV is all about capturing the images that matter and at its heart lies reliable detection, which is what Optex does best, but this catalogue also features an innovative range of cameras and event recorders. We hope that you find the catalogue informative and easy to use and look forward to receiving your feedback on it. 2

There are three Optex Event-Driven CCTV brands, all well known for their high performance, stability and reliability. Redwall The Redwall brand comprises the following ranges of products: Redwall medium and long-range PIR detectors Redwatch detector and camera combination Redwide wide-angle detectors MegaRed long-range, dual output detectors Rednet active infrared beams. The rugged construction and reliable operation of Redwall products make them ideal for use as motion detectors in CCTV applications. The Optex Event-Driven CCTV range comprises short-range outdoor detectors and short, medium and long-range photobeams: LX/VX/BX Outdoor PIR Detectors AX/BX Outdoor Photobeams AX Beam Tower Enclosures The WonderTrack brand comprises indoor and outdoor PIR Cameras and a range of image capture devices: DC Detector Cameras WT Event Recorders CONTENTS PIR DETECTORS Introduction 6 Redwall LPR 4010/3020/404 8 Redwide LRP 5030 9 Redwall LRP 100Q 10 MegaRed LRP 180Q 11 VX-402 12 VX-402REC 13 LX-402/802N 14 BX-80N 15 Redwall WF 4010/3020/404 Redwall WF 100Q 16 Wire-Free Link: WFR 100/WFT 100 17 Interswitch/Videswitch 18 PIR Accessories 19 PHOTOBEAMS Introduction 20 AX-70T/130T 22 AX-100/200, PLUS/ALPHA 23 AX250/500 PLUS 24 AX-350/650 MkII 25 Rednet RN4 26 AX-BT, AX-WMT 28 BX-100 PLUS 29 DETECTOR CAMERAS Introduction 30 Redwatch 32 DCL-300 33 DC-300 34 DC-20 35 EVENT RECORDERS Introduction 36 WT-100/110 38 WT-300/330 39 APPENDICES PIR Detector coverage patterns 40 Product Finder Alphabetical index by product code 42 WONDERTRACK WONDERTRACK WONDERTRACK WONDERTRACK WONDERTRACK 3

CAPTURING THE IMAGES THAT MATTER The most common Event-Driven CCTV application is where an external detection system covers a secure area, which is also covered by highspeed domes or pan and tilt units. These camera units have their presets linked to the status of the movement sensors. When an intruder enters the area the alarm activates and the cameras move to the specific pre-sets to capture the event. The sensors can also be used to activate video transmission systems or, with a manned CCTV system, can alert an operator s attention to movement in a specific area. Systems can also incorporate external audio public address speakers. When the detectors activate in a remote monitoring situation the central station operators can broadcast live speech to the remote site warning the trespasser or potential intruders that they are under surveillance, are being recorded for evidence and that the Police have been alerted and are en route. The Event-Driven CCTV concept covers any application where detection is used to trigger monitoring or recording of a specified event. At its simplest this could be a single PIR detector with built-in miniature camera (such as the DC-300 on page 34) outside a doorway. When someone walks up to the door the PIR activates and the image of the person is captured for evidence. 4

BENEFITS OF EVENT-DRIVEN CCTV The user decides which events are of interest and it is these events which are then captured. All other events are ignored, saving time and money. Manned guards can be alerted to potential problems as they happen. Central stations can verify that an alarm has been triggered by an intruder and is not a false activation. When there is an event of interest everyone concerned is more likely to take notice and react as they should they have not been de-sensitised by many false alarms. Event-Driven CCTV is preventive in that it can warn off potential intruders before any damage has been done. Reliable detectors are at the heart of Event-Driven CCTV When people think of Event-Driven CCTV they often think of event recorders, transmission products or products that have alarm inputs. But these products are only as good as the alarm inputs they receive. Reliable detection is at the heart of Event-Driven CCTV because only then can the user rest assured that when an alarm activates it is an intruder - not a false activation. RELIABLE DETECTORS SAVE TIME AND MONEY A Security Manager at a large company called me. They were having 70 80 false alarms per weekend, but when they looked at the video footage of the car park being monitored it was completely empty. Each false alarm was costing them and the total bill was enormous. We simply replaced the external detectors they were using with Optex detectors and the false alarms disappeared. They thought that there must be something wrong because they were getting no activations which was because there were no intruders! They even sent people into the protected area when the alarm was set to make sure that the system was working, which it was. LESS FOOTAGE Security Installer, Birmingham, England In one week a sixteen camera system produces 2,688 hours of images. Frequently the vast majority of these show nothing of any interest at all. Event-Driven CCTV reduces the footage to the events that matter, saving time, reducing the need for large capacity hard disk recorders and reducing the cost of VHS tapes if VCRs are used. 5

Active infrared detectors (photobeams) are one of the best-established security solutions in the market place. They provide an invisible fence which when broken by an intruder creates an alarm condition. This makes them particularly suitable for perimeter protection. All photobeams in this section: Come as a transmitter and receiver pair Are easy to install and align Are designed to operate in all weather conditions COMPLETE RANGE Optex offers a comprehensive range of external photobeams suitable for a large variety of Event-Driven CCTV applications. From short-range dual detectors operating at a distance of up to 20m apart to longrange detectors operating at up to 200m separation you re sure to find an Optex photobeam suitable for your requirement. RELIABILITY Optex photobeams are the most reliable on the market today. With reliable detection at the heart of any effective Event-Driven CCTV system it doesn t make sense to compromise when specifying a job. Optex combines innovative design with unsurpassed manufacturing quality to produce detectors that you can rely on every time. PEACE OF MIND THROUGH PRODUCT EXCELLENCE Optex unique technologies and design provide a wide range of functions that greatly simplify installation and maintain reliable performance even in adverse weather or poor environmental conditions. Features of the range include: One-man alignment capability Sealed optics to prevent ingress of insects or dust Adjustable beam interruption time Environmental Disqualification Circuit 20

Dual beams emit more infrared energy making Optex photobeams combine high levels of intruder detection with a low potential for false alarms. 21

AX SERIES AX-70T/130T INFRARED PHOTOELECTRIC BEAM Twin beam photoelectric detectors designed for short-range outdoor or long-range indoor applications. Using twin beams of pulsed infrared energy reliable operation is possible in the worst conditions up to 99% of the emitted radiation can be blocked by rain, fog or falling snow and the beams will still operate. By utilising an automatic gain control circuit, gradual changes in signal strength caused by weather conditions are continually monitored and the trigger level adjusted accordingly to compensate. In addition the unique anti-frost design allows for trouble-free operation when the cover is completely frosted over. FEATURES Adjustable beam interruption time - long interruption time catches an intruder but allows a small animal to pass through Twin beams require simultaneous interruption to create activation. Their rugged construction and five-year warranty ensure that these detectors will provide long and dependable service. AX beams include automatic gain control (AGC) to help compensate for loss of signal caused by fog or heavy rain. This circuitry ensures that even with 99% of signal lost the beams will continue to function. To further ensure reliability, beams also feature an adjustable beam interruption timer that can be set to filter out alarms from small or fast moving objects. Add to this a frost resistant cover design and lightning protection and you have a beam suitable for installations in the harshest environments. AX SERIES AX-250/500 PLUS INFRARED PHOTOELECTRIC BEAM DIMENSIONS The AX 250/500 PLUS Series are cost-effective long-range dual beams for internal or external applications. The detectors are attractive in appearance and are simple to install and maintain. Suitable for external ranges up to 150m outdoors the beams have twin infrared transmitters and receivers to reduce the potential for alarms from small animals blowing debris and falling leaves. Beams operate by only triggering an alarm when both beams are broken simultaneously. Initial alignment can be carried out using the built in optical aiming device to roughly set the sensors and then fine-tuning can be carried out using a standard digital meter. Flexible input voltages of between 10.5 and 30vdc result in a sensor that is easy to integrate into new or existing systems. FEATURES Adjustable beam interruption time - long interruption time catches an intruder but allows a small animal to pass through. Twin beams require simultaneous interruption to create activation. AX SERIES AX-350/650 MKII The AX350/650 MK11 are dual beam long-range sensors with a host of sophisticated extra facilities. They are ideal for larger installations where they are capable of external ranges up to 200m. The beams offer four site-selectable frequencies that allow them to be stacked one above another to provide a wall of coverage. To further increase security their height and direction can be disguised by installing them inside the AX-BT beam tower. To reduce set up and alignment to a minimum the AX-350/650 MKII include a one-man alignment facility. A third infrared beam sends alignment information from the receiver to the transmitter and allows the installer to see the status of the received signal at the transmitter. Input voltage is between 10.5 to 30vdc and allows flexibility in system design, particularly where large sites have remote power supplies. The AX-350/650 MKII s dual beams reduce the potential for false activation from birds or blowing debris. REDNET SERIES RN4 10-25/25-75/75-150 INFRARED PHOTOELECTRIC BEAM The Rednet Series of photobeams is a range of active infrared detectors designed to combine high levels of intruder detection with a low potential for false activation. The system utilises the infrared transmission to synchronise transmitters and receivers and removes the need for hardwire synchronisation cables between towers. RN4 systems feature four high power transmitters and four receivers. Uniquely, each transmitter operates to all receivers and all receivers are operated by all transmitters. This combination creates a sixteen beam path net which is difficult to compromise. SYSTEM DESIGN The Rednet system is simple to design and install as it is modular and has just five main components. To design a system, simply decide where the towers are to be positioned and measure the distance between these points. Choose the wall or free-standing towers and select the correct beam set for the distances between them. Towers come complete with all fixings and the electronics include heaters, thermostats, fixings and alignment aids. BEAM HEAD The Rednet beam head contains a folded optical array to combine a long focal length with small head size. This creates narrow transmission and receiving angles to maximise performance. The heads also contain their own heater to ensure that the maximum amount of energy is directed to the section of the tower the beams operate in.
