Airplanes may not be cleared for an approach at KHND without conflicting with approaches for McCarran International. Expect holds and significant delays if flying on an IFR clearance. Airport and FBO Fees All ramp and handling fees at KHND will be waived with a fuel purchase. Overnight parking is $9/night (single engine) and $15/night (multiengine). Fuel discount.(tbd) Suggested Arrival Procedures If at all possible, arrive VFR and/or cancel your IFR clearance prior to entering Las Vegas Approach Control airspace. Obtaining VFR Flight Following services prior to entering Las Vegas Approach Control airspace may expedite your arrival. If you are arriving as part of a formation flight, break formation and proceed individually prior to entering Las Vegas Approach Control airspace. ATC will not work formation flights, nor will it clear formations of any size to enter Class B or D airspace or to land at KHND. If conditions require you to arrive on an IFR clearance, expect significant delays since KHND s approaches are not compatible with simultaneous approaches at Las Vegas McCarran International. HELPFUL HINTS ON FLYING INTO LAS VEGAS /HENDERSON EXECUTIVE (KHND) by ABS member Geary Keilman, Las Vegas, Nevada When arriving from: The North: Remain east of the Nellis Range Restricted areas. Contacting Nellis Control for flight following through the Desert and Reveille MOAs is highly recommend due to high-speed fighter operations. The Northwest: From OAL to BTY remain on V105 and west of Highway US95. From BTY to the Las Vegas area remain South and West of US95. This will assure remaining out of the Nellis Range and Nevada Test Site restricted areas. The Central California Coast and Southern San Joaquin Valley: Flight planning through the Trona Corridor near China Lake NAS will save time over the southern route via Palmdale. Contact Joshua Approach over Lake Isabella for flight following. Clearance can often be obtained through R-2505 but be prepared to fly the narrow Trona Corridor between R-2505 and R-2524. Once over the Trona Airport (L72), it is a straight shot to KHND. The South: Use caution for parachute, glider, and acrobatic activity on and surrounding the Jean (0L7) airport that is located about 15 miles SSW of KHND along Interstate 15. Once in the Las Vegas area contact Las Vegas Approach for flight following. Class Bravo clearance may entail more work than remaining clear and following the routes and altitudes shown on the back side of the Las Vegas VFR Terminal Area Chart. Those approaching from the North should be aware of the North Las Vegas Air Terminal (VGT) Class D airspace. LAS VEGAS/HENDERSON EXECUTIVE is tucked in pretty tight under the Class B airspace to the north and west. It would be advisable to have your airplane slowed down prior to entering the airport traffic pattern to avoid overshooting into the Class B. This will also help the tower due to high volume traffic that may develop. Note: There is extensive helicopter and fixed wing commercial air tour traffic operating from Las Vegas/Henderson Executive Airport. 2011 ABS Convention Fly-in procedures 2
Airport Traffic Pattern Although KHND is under a shelf of the Las Vegas Class B airspace, the base of which is 5000 feet (2503 feet above field elevation), the airport is just over one mile south of the Class B inner ring where positive control airspace extends to the surface. Pilots landing on Runway 17L/R must fly a tight approach so that the base leg and final remain within less than one mile of the airport. Clearance into the Henderson Class D airspace does not permit operation within the Class B airspace without additional Class B clearance from Las Vegas Approach. The photo on Page 6 of this guide shows the close proximity of Class B airspace to KHND. Pilots are strongly encouraged to obtain and study the Las Vegas VFR Terminal Area Chart prior to flying to KHND, and to have it available in the airplane when flying in the vicinity of Las Vegas. Noise abatement Follow Henderson Airport s General and Arrival noise abatement procedures as described on page 5 of this guide. After landing Follow ATC instructions and taxi to parking on the ramp. Pilots of airplanes that will be displayed at the Beechcraft Hangar Party will receive separate instructions before the event. All persons on the ramp at KHND must be under constant observation by authorized security escorts. Services Welcome Center There will be an ABS Convention Welcome Center in the Henderson Executive FBO terminal. Buses will run from this area to the Convention hotel. Members who have pre-arranged rental cars will pick up and drop off rental cars at the Welcome Center. Fuel Henderson Executive Airport will provide fueling services to ABS Convention aircraft. Fuel orders will be taken on arrival and a fuel payment desk will be staffed at the FBO. Remain clear of the Class B airspace unless you are cleared to enter by ATC. If you wish to complete your flight IFR, file to pick up your clearance at a point outside Las Vegas Approach Control airspace if conditions permit doing so safely. Expect significant delays if conditions require you to depart on an IFR clearance. ATC will not work formation flights, nor will it clear formations of any size to enter Class B or D airspace or to take off from KHND.
