Students will: 1. Sing two prepared 16 - bar songs 2. Prepare and read selected dialogue and scenes 3. Learn and present a section of choreography in smalls groups Audition materials are provided in this document, as well as a character list and synopsis of Honk! An accompanist will be provided for the singing portion of the audition. Written feedback will be given from Company Directors, Timothy Maureen Cole and Jessica Lombardi to each auditioning student. Acceptance is by audition only. Once accepted into the Company, students are guided through an intensive professional rehearsal process by our top faculty members, Wharton Musical Theater Arts Director, Timothy Cole, and experienced performer, choreographer and instructor, Jessica Lombardi. Over 27 weeks, students will be cast and prepare for two full performances of the Stiles and Drewe favorite, Honk, a theatrical re-telling of The Ugly Duckling. Rehearsals include a live accompanist. Students work throughout the year in collaboration with the Company Instrumental Ensemble, led by faculty member David Seamon. Show: Honk! Audition Information Voice: Everyone must prepare the company song A Poultry Tale plus one additional song from audition materials for memorized presentation. Acting: Audition scenes will be chosen from the list provided. Dialogue does not need to be memorized. Dance: The Dance audition will immediately follow the Acting/Voice audition. Stiles & Drewe's Musical: Honk! Ugly looks quite a bit different from his/her darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite Ida s protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about, the little fowl goes on an adventure of self-discovery, all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out that being different is not a bad thing to be.
Characters Ugly: Our story's youthful protagonist. Gawky and odd-looking. Shunned for his/her odd appearance. Possesses a heart of gold. Cat: Our story's antagonist. Sly and cunning. A very hungry cat who preys on his/her next meal. Drake: Ugly's father who detests his son. Greylag: A goose and the Admiral of the squadron charged with Ugly's safe return. He is Dot's husband. Turkey: The School Headmaster who is self-basting, self-boasted prime specimen. Deathly afraid of Thanksgiving. Bullfrog: A laidback, self-confident frog who is encouraging, light-hearted, and optimistic. Father Swan: Penny's loving, protective, and caring father. Ida: Ugly's loving mother and the only person who is supportive of the outcast child. Grace: Most distinguished duck on the lake and the school governor. Proud, honest, and genuine. Dot: Greylag's composed, respectful wife. Maureen: Ida s best friend, and fellow mother. Queenie: Very domesticated, humorous, snobby cat who lives the "high life." Mother Swan: Tender, compassionate, loving, and caring. Mother to Penny. Henrietta: A friend of Maureen and Ida's, she is somewhat of a busybody.
