Preparing your students for FETCH! Thank you for registering your classroom to participate in The Ohio CPA Foundation s FETCH! program. Listed below are several things you can do in advance to prepare your students for the event. This teacher packet includes: Student vocabulary words Vocabulary quiz (used for the pre- and post-event assessment) Vocabulary quiz answer key Vocabulary quiz scoring sheet ASSESSING LEARNING OUTCOMES: Specific money management terminology will be used when a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) comes to your classroom to facilitate the FETCH! game with your students. To prepare for the program, please review the enclosed student vocabulary words with your class (but not before you administer the first quiz see below). A short vocabulary quiz for students to take both before and after playing FETCH! is included in this packet. This quiz will help assess students knowledge before participating in the program and reveal what students learned as a result of participating in FETCH!. The pre-and post-event quizzes are identical. Before reviewing the vocabulary words with the class, have students take the quiz. Do this one to two days before FETCH! is presented in your classroom. Although they may not understand all of the terminology, ask students to do their best in completing the quiz. Once the students finish, please collect and grade the tests. Record the results in the Pre-Event Assessment column on the Vocabulary Quiz Scoring Sheet. After students have taken the pre-event quiz, please review the vocabulary words and their meanings with the students. This will help prepare them to play FETCH!. On the day of the event after playing FETCH! with CPA volunteers, please give the students the quiz again as a post-event assessment. Once finished, collect the tests, tally the students scores and record the results in the Post-Event Assessment column on the Vocabulary Quiz Scoring Sheet. Once completed, please send the Vocabulary Quiz Scoring Sheet to The Ohio Society of CPAs via fax at 614.764.5880, Attention: Mandy Hohler or email mhohler@ohiocpa.com. Please submit the form by December 5.

ADDITIONAL CLASS PREPARATION TIPS: Before the volunteers arrive, please group your students into teams of four or five with a maximum of six groups. Consider grouping students with varied math skills as FETCH! will require teams to solve age-appropriate math problems. Addition and subtraction of double digit negative numbers will occur while playing FETCH!. Teaching a lesson or reviewing basic negative number math problems in advance of playing FETCH! will benefit your students. Reviewing percentages will also help prepare your students for FETCH!. Please plan to stay in the room while the CPA volunteers conduct FETCH!. They may need your help periodically throughout the program.
