Islington and Camden Cemetery Services
Islington and Camden Cemetery Services The St. Pancras and Islington Cemetery Service (ICCS) carries on a proud tradition of serving bereaved families from when the St Pancras and the Islington cemeteries were first established in 1854. The service offers a variety of burial options located within four cemeteries: Islington, St Pancras, Hampstead and Trent Park. The cemeteries and cremation service and its chapels are available to all religions, sects and beliefs.
Islington Crematorium Set within the tranquil grounds of the Islington and St. Pancras Cemetery, Islington Crematorium is an Art Deco style building that opened in 1937. The crematorium building features a waiting room, modern accessible toilets and a Book of Remembrance memorial room. Wheelchair access is available on request. Just outside the main entrance is an electronic Book of Remembrance which allows visitors to view the Books of Remembrance even when the chapel is closed. To the side of the crematorium is an area for displaying floral tributes. The crematorium has two new energy efficient and full emission abated cremators. We are leaders in North London in implementing government legislation to ensure full compliancy under UK and EU law. The crematorium has plenty of car parking spaces and easy access from the major roads in North London, especially the A1 and A406 North Circular.
Funeral Services A 45 minute period is given for each funeral service. Extra time can be requested when the service is booked. A member of staff is in attendance for each service. When the service is over mourners can view floral tributes that have been placed in the floral display area.
The Crematorium Chapel The Crematorium Chapel features a distinctive glass dome that gives it a light, attractive and peaceful ambience. The chapel has comfortable, individual seating for up to 74 people with room for another 30 standing. New heating and ventilation equipment make sure that the chapel is comfortable in both winter and summer. It also has an induction loop to help the hard of hearing. The chapel has an excellent music system with high quality speakers. A wide range of music is available on cd and you should ask us if a particular song is required. Arrangements can be made to bring your own cd and we will arrange to test it on our equipment before the day. If more traditional music is preferred and you wish to sing hymns, an organist can be booked to play the chapel s electronic organ.
Islington, St Pancras, Trent Park and Hampstead Cemeteries Islington, St Pancras and Trent Park cemeteries all offer choices of new graves. New graves are not available at Hampstead Cemetery. Front Lawn Graves These are the same as the traditional graves except that they are sold at a higher cost due to their location. The size of the grave you purchase will need to reflect the size of the coffin you select.
Woodland Burial Area The Woodland Burial Area is a new and unique burial site within the grounds of Islington and St Pancras Cemeteries. It offers an alternative to traditional burial and is set in a peaceful and tranquil area featuring some magnificent mature trees and wildflowers. Amongst its shaded areas there is a pergola and a pathway meandering through ash, oak, silver birch, conifer, cedar and beech trees. The cemetery service is carefully managing the return of this special area to a wilder, more natural state with the re-introduction of native wild flowers and woodland plants such as bluebells and snow drops. Wildlife and conservation go hand in hand in this area. The area offers spaces for individual or family graves and also places where ashes can be interred or scattered. There are no stone monuments or memorials, however, small wooden memorials are welcome and the ICCS staff can explain exactly what is allowed.

A butterfly wild flower meadow has been created in the lower right of the grounds. The cemetery is now closed for new graves as there is no more space available.
