Introduction IEC in Sports, the City of Durban, the Province of KwaZulu-Natal in partnership with the South African Football Association will stage a world class international Under 19 s club football tournament, being a first for South Africa titled Durban Under 19 s International Football Tournament. For South Africa the Tournament will not only give the opportunity to see some of the most talented young players from the world s best known clubs, but also and more importantly, give the opportunity for the best young footballers from South Africa to play against their international counterparts to learn and improve from this challenging experience. IEC has entered into an initial 3 year contract, 2014, 2015 and 2016, with both the Municipality and Province to become organiser and rights holder to the Tournament.
Staging The Tournament will be played annually on agreed dates in July or August (to coincide with the South African and European pre-season period) commencing in 2014 on 28 July to 9 August. The Sugar Ray Xulu and Princess Magogo stadiums will host both group stages with the King Zwelithini the semi-finals (all 3 stadiums were upgraded for the 2010 FIFA World Cup ) and the Moses Mabhida Stadium, the final. This will offer television broadcasters, sponsors and partners, as well as the general public a spread of access and the utilisation of existing facilities.

8 Club Format The Tournament s 8 club format sees its initial two 4 team groups each headed by a South African host team, being a KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Hoy Park X1 and a South African Football Association U19 National Team, leading to semi-finals and a final. International club sides who have received an official invitation to attend and participate alongside the Tournament s 2 South African hosts, include: Liverpool FC, Everton, Arsenal, Chelsea, FC Porto, AC Milan, Paris Saint Germain, AS Roma, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Barcelona, PSV, Ajax, Feyenoord, Real Madrid, New York Cosmos, Boca Juniors, Santos and Valencia.

Player Scouting Programme Together with SAFA, a total of 15 open trial events will take place across the 11 regions within KZN between December 2013 and March 2014 to ultimately select the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Hoy Park X1 squad of players. A total of 18,000 players will be evaluated by a technical team led by Paulo Cardoso, the man who discovered and nurtured Cristiano Ronaldo and other leading Portuguese international players. Following evaluation of these players, 140 will be selected to attend a further 2 week intensive training camp on the 28 th March 2014 which will lead to selection of the final 25 squad of players. SAFA s YDF program will also be implemented as part of each of the 15 trial events to promote HIV prevention, violence prevention, environmental awareness and disability inclusion.
Player Scouting Programme - Three day Scouting trial per region Day 1 Scouting courses, approximately forty coaches will receive an Introductory Scouting course by Paulo Cardoso. It will consist of a three hour theory session in the morning and a three hour practical session in the afternoon. A selected number of Coaches will assist the following day with the trials Day 2 A registration point will be set up with Trial Administrators Registration of a maximum of 400 boys per session two sessions for the day Registration of boys require their identity book An indemnity form, with a parental consent letter, where required, is submitted at the same time Players are then tagged and given bibs in different colours marked 2-16 and then placed in groups of 16 into teams of 2 Games of 30 minutes are played in half fields 3 coaches per field to do the first round. One of the coaches will referee and other two coaches will do the first level scouting - Afterwards boys re-tagged to attend second day session

TV Coverage National, regional and international television broadcast company interest in the Tournament will be high due to the global spread of the clubs invited to participate, together with the South African National team and the prestige they represent. The Tournament s 8 team format offers 16 matches to be played over 8 double header match nights, giving broadcasters in excess of 21 hours of actual football time with an estimated 33 hours of programming time. Live television broadcast will be expected in all of the participating club countries and/or regions, specialist sports programming, highlight and news access programmes.
