There is a great need for professionalising our workforce and verifying against industry-wide standards that personnel are properly skilled, trained and competent in their jobs. Stephen Colville, 2014 IADC CEO & President. With forecasts indicating that offshore/onshore drilling is set to grow in the Mediterranean region in the coming years, Malta is strategically located to provide supporting services to this industry, including well trained, safety-conscience personnel. This is being said as the industry is facing new technical challenges, including an aging workforce, which requires trained entry-level personnel prepared to dedicate themselves to the rigours of this highly specialised industry. The Academy Ablecare Oilfield Services Group has established the Ableman Drilling Careers Academy (ADCA), which has teamed up with Houston-based Lone Star College to deliver internationally accredited, stackable courses having curriculums based on the skills and competencies required by the oil and gas industry. ADCA is the first academy in the Mediterranean region to offer an in-depth, industry-based programme for those who wish to pursue a hands-on career in the oil and gas sector. Through ADCA, the Ablecare Oilfield Services Group is investing in a facility that will attract new qualified personnel to the industry. The Academy is in line with the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) initiative to prequalify and train new personnel in the oil and gas industry. The aims of the Academy are to: Assess potential personnel on their maturity to handle the requisites of the industry; Groom people for a hands-on drilling career; Set a local industry standard with respect to the entry requirements on a rig, which is approved and recognised worldwide; Impart the right safety culture; Provide for personal development of existing rigbased personnel; and Provide drilling contractors with retainable, promotable and safety-conscience rig crews. Ablecare Oilfield Services Group A leading supplier of specialist products and services to the Marine, Oil and Gas Industry, Ablecare OSG is a member of IADC and has also been accepted as an approved vendor for various international clients, successfully satisfying the entry requirements of other supplier management services organisations, such as FPAL, the supplier management community supporting the European oil and gas industry.
