Datasheet Search on NGS Website If you do not know the latitude / longitude of your project site, you can open Google Earth freeware and enter in the land address. Right button click the push pin icon above your address and select Properties to see the address' geodetic position. For example: Topcon Positioning Systems 7400 National Drive Livermore, CA 94550 37 42'12.14"N 121 42'7.58"W...then back within the NGS website, you can use the Radial Search function to enter in a geodetic position. Notice that the NGS website requests that you enter in your location for a Radial Search as: N374212 W1214208
NGS Datasheets File Save As
NGS Datasheets After search results, go to File / Save As and save in an HTML webpage format. This is the file that will be imported into Topcon Tools office software.

Export to Device from Topcon Tools The next step will be to export compiled data from Topcon Tools to a TopSURV field controller. Establish an ActiveSync connection first. Then in Topcon Tools, go to Job / Export to Device.
Export to Device from Topcon Tools Within the Export to Device window, navigate to where you want the resulting TopSURV job file to be. Ensure to declare a Format Name of TopSURV 7 Job (*.tsj). Declare a job name. For this example we will use from topcon tools. Click Save. Topcon Tools will automatically being compiling all points, line work, layers, colors, line types, codes, coordinate system / distance unit information, etc. into a TopSURV job (TSJ) format. Next step will be to open on the field controller and check.

Export Google Earth (KMZ) File
Export Google Earth (KMZ) File Now that you have exported your Topcon Tools job to a Google Earth (KMZ) file format, you have the option of viewing it within Google Maps on a Topcon GRS-1 receiver. Either copy / paste the resulting Google Maps KMZ file onto your GRS-1 via ActiveSync or place on a removable SD memory card.
Google Maps on a Topcon GRS-1 1 Receiver Once the Google Maps KMZ file is on your GRS-1 receiver, tap the Start button from the Windows Mobile desktop and select File Explorer. Navigate to your KMZ file and tap to automatically see all points in Google Maps freeware.
Google Maps on a Topcon GRS-1 1 Receiver Initially, you will see a listing of all points. You can either purposefully select the point that you d like to work with or tap the See Map button to select graphically. You can also tap and drag on the screen to pan around as well as zoom in / out.
Google Maps on a Topcon GRS-1 1 Receiver For this example, we will work with the NGS monument, Point Identifier of DE8489. You can either Get Directions or tap the Street View option. This is what it looks like if you were standing over this NGS monument. Again, you can also tap and drag on the screen to pan around.
Common Work Flow
Common Work Flow Create a new job in Topcon Tools office software and compile multiple types of data (NGS Datasheets, local control, line work, ESRI Shape Files, etc.). Identify and fix problems with full keyboard and mouse comfort so as to not discover for first time while in the field. View in Google Earth for a common sense check as well.
Common Work Flow From Topcon Tools, use Export to Device and send to field controller as a TopSURV job (TSJ format). Optional to also export all points from Google Earth as a KMZ file. Then transfer KMZ file to a Topcon GRS-1 receiver. Within File Explorer on GRS-1 receiver, tap KMZ file to view in Google Maps.
TopSURV Data Collection Software Launch TopSURV data collection software. Select and Open job that was initially compiled and created in Topcon Tools office software. It is common to tap the Map icon to visually check that data came across as intended.
TopSURV Data Collection Software From the TopSURV main menu, tap the Edit Job icon then Points to see a listing of all points currently in the TopSURV field job. It is common to pause and select a random point within the TopSURV job to compare against what was initially in Topcon Tools and published on NGS Data Sheets. Cautious progression.
