FITTINGS Alpha Free Flow manufactures a complete line of fittings in gauges to match the spiral duct application and are designed especially for use with spiral duct. Jobsite conditions may require fittings other than those shown below however any type of fitting is available upon request. The inner shell of Acoustic-Thermal double walled duct fittings are 2 longer at all openings to allow for easy assembly. SPIRAL DUCT SELECTION GUIDE PRODUCT DESCRIPTION RECOMMENDED USES SPECIAL FEATURES Free-flow Spiral Duct Section through strip width - Single wall round duct of helicoidal 4-ply spiral lockseam construction with tightly closed joints to provide smooth interior. - Made from G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A525-83. - Matching fittings available. - Available insulated with interior metal liner (perforated or unperforated). See Acoustic-Thermal Duct below. - Uses slip type transverse joint or Spirmir Self Sealing System. Companion angle flanged joint recommended for ducts over 60 diameter. institutional projects. - For high negative pressures - For all static pressure classes (1/2 to +10 w.g.). - Specify P.V.S. (Polyvinyl Steel) for under-slab air duct and for corrosive fumes. See below. - For agricultural use. - May also be used for culverts, drains, and dust collection systems. - Round duct can be used to great advantage over rectangular duct due to round duct structural strength and rigidity, important factors in avoiding noise generation, external damage and duct collapse. - Round duct is normally offered in longer lengths and fewer joints, resulting in reduced friction losses, leakage at joints and installation costs. - Available in a wide variety of materials. Multi-rib Spiral Duct Section through strip width - Single wall round duct of helicoidal 4-ply spiral lockseam construction with 3 intermediate standing ribs. Also available 1 or 2 ribs at nominal extra cost. - Made from G60 galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A525-83. - Matching fittings available. - Available insulated with or without perforated metal liner. - Uses slip type transverse joint. Companion angle flanged joint recommended for ducts over 60 diameter. institution projects wherever a low pressure duct system is required. - Maximum 2 w.g. static positive. - Best quality for least expense in systems that have less than 2 w.g. static pressure. - See round duct features above. Acoustic Thermal Duct Section through strip width - Double walled round duct with fiberglass insulation liner. Consists of outer skin of Free-Flow Spiral Duct as described above, 1 or 2 thickness 3/4 lb. density fiberglass, and standard interior liner of 26-24 guage G60 galvanized steel Multi- Rib Spiral Duct (as described above) perforated with 3/32 diameter holes staggered 3/16 o.c. (available unperforated for thermal use only). - Low pressure duct (2 w.g. or less) can be supplied with outer skin of Free-Flow spiral duct and interior duct liner insulation only (no interior metal liner) if desired. - Matching fittings available. - Uses slip type transverse joint or Spirmir Self Sealing System. Companion angle flanged joint recommended for ducts over 60 diameter. institutional projects. - For all static pressure classes (1/2 to 10 w.g.). - For maximum noise control and/or thermal efficiency. - See Multi-Rib Spiral Duct above. - Provides high STL (Sound Transmission Loss) through duct walls. - Minimizes noise and sound transmission in duct system. - Minimizes heat loss and provides positive vapour barrier. - Provides double fire protection. - Provides uniform insulation thickness. P.V.S. Spiral Duct (For Under-slab And Corrosive Fumes) Type 1 Smooth Wall Type 2 External Corrugations Section through strip widths - Patented single wall round duct of helicoidal 4-ply spiral lockseam construction with tightly closed joints. - P.V.S. consists of a prime quality G90 galvanized steel with a 4 mil thickness pvc coating fused to both sides using a patented process. - Available unreinforced (Type 1) or with external reinforcing corrugations (Type 2) which increases rigidity of duct by approximately 300%. - Smooth glass-like interior surface of Type 1 (uninreinforced) duct reduces air flow friction to near zero. - Weighs only 1/3 as much as traditional materials such as concrete; reduces labor costs. - Uses slip type transverse joint or Spirmir Self Sealing System. institutional projects. - For all static pressure classes (1/2 to 10 w.g.). - Under-slab air duct. - Ducting for corrosive fumes. - Load limits* - (Type 1-Smooth Wall) 4-8 dia. = 400 lbs. / lin. ft. 10-36 dia. = 800 lbs. / lin. ft. (Type 2 Reinforcing Ribs) 4-8 dia. = 1200 lbs. / lin. ft. - Above weights apply when P.V.S. is installed as recommended with equal compaction in back filling. - Will not rust, chip crack, peel, corrode or produce odors. U.L.C. Tested and labeled. - Light in weight possesses high crushing strength and will not collapse with weight of concrete when poured equally - Can be stacked outdoors without cover, in any weather. - Unaffected by concrete and normal back filling materials. Reagents and test data available upon request. P.V.S. has also passed thousands of hours of accelerated salt spray, humidity cabinet, and water immersion tests with no loss of adhesion or corrosive action. - May be exposed to continuous temperatures ranging from -40 F to 200 F. - Does not need to be encased in concrete, or propped up or tied down. Only a shallow trench is required. No encasement means substantial savings over poured concrete.
