Your students will have access to the Cengage YouBook from their My ebooks link in their course menu 1

as well as from the Read It Links associated to assigned homework problems. Customizing the Cengage YouBook TOC: Table of Contents The Table of Contents allows you to navigate to a specific location within the book. Click the Contents button to access the Table of Contents. Click on any chapter to view the contents inside that chapter. Then, click on any section to jump to the first page of that section. Click the X button to close the Table of Contents. Assigned Readings The Assigned Readings menu allows you to customize a reading list for your students. With the Cengage YouBook, you can remove and/or reorder chapters and sections in your specified reading list. To customize your YouBook, click the Contents button and then select Assigned Readings. Click the Customize button to make edits to Assigned Readings. Deselect the Radio Button to remove chapters or sections from student view. Use the Arrow buttons to reorder chapters or sections by moving the item up or down respectively. Alternatively, you can drag and drop items in the menu to rearrange them. Click the Reset button to restore Assigned Reading list to original publisher settings. Click the Save button to save your customizations. If students navigate to a book page that is not on your Assigned Readings list, they will see an alert that notifies them. 2

Navigating through the Cengage YouBook: There are a variety of navigation tools to help you navigate around the book. Double Page View allows you to view the book in 2 page spreads. Single Page View allows you to view the book one page at a time. Use the Forward Arrow to go to the next page, and the Back Arrow to go to the previous page. The Page Number Box allows you to type a page number into this box to jump to a page directly. The Last Page Arrow allows you to return to the last page recently viewed. The Zoom Tool allows you to zoom in or zoom out on the page. The Zoom % box notifies you what level you are zoomed into. You may also type any zoom % into the box. Click the + or - buttons to zoom in or out in increments of 20%. The Hand Tool allows you to click on the page and drag the page in whatever direction you move your cursor. This tool only works if you are zoomed in and the scroll bars are visible. To turn this tool off, click the icon in the toolbar once again. The Zoom To Area Tool allows you to zoom in on a specific area of the page. Click on any point on the page and draw a rectangle to zoom into a desired area. To quickly zoom back out, click the 100% icon in the toolbar. The Fit To Page Tool will automatically fit the page into the screen either horizontally or vertically depending on which button is selected. 3

Accessing the Integrated Media Library: Click the Media button to open the Media menu. The Media menu allows you and your students to launch specific tutorial assets that are also linked throughout the YouBook. From here, you can navigate by chapter to find all the related media assets. These can include video lectures, tutorials, simulations or animations and vary by title. These media assets provide a great quick review for students as well as an excellent teaching resource that you may choose to incorporate into your lectures. While the Media Library compiles all of the assets for the textbook, you will also see icons like the ones below integrated throughout your YouBook to provide students with access to the media elements in the context of the textbook passages. Adding Your Own Media In addition to media that is provided by Cengage Learning, you will also have the ability to add your own Media to Cengage YouBook including external web links and YouTube Videos. More information on these features is included later in this manual. Any media that you personally add to the YouBook will be accessible to you and your students from the My Media Tab. 4

Using the Highlighter Tool: You can highlight text passages in the book and either keep those highlights private or choose to share them with your students. You can add highlights in three different colors yellow, orange and pink. Click the Highlighter Tool to activate the highlighting pen. Click at the beginning of any text passage to highlight it and drag the highlighter to the end of the passage. Click the Down Arrow button next to the Highlighter Tool to open a menu containing a list of all highlights in the book. You can Sort and Print highlights according to your needs: by page, chapter, or section. You can also filter highlights by color. You can Share highlights with your students by clicking the share radio button. The radio button is located in the Highlighting menu. When you share a highlight, the highlight color turns blue for you and your students both in the Highlight menu and on the page. 5

Using the Notes Tool: You may add sticky notes to the book and either keep those notes private or choose to share them with your students. Click into the Notes Tool to activate the note taking tool. Type your note and then click Place Icon to post the notes icon in the appropriate place on the page. You can also select the Radio Button to the right of Place Icon if you want to share this note with your students. Notes that are private to you will appear in yellow. When you choose to share a note with students, the icon will appear in blue. After adding a note to a page, a red circle appears in the Notes Tool. The number in the circle tells you how many notes there are. Click the Down Arrow button next to the Notes Tool to open a menu containing a list of all notes in your YouBook. You can Print notes according to your needs: by page, chapter, or section. You can also choose to Share notes with your students from this view by clicking the share radio button in the Notes Pane. 6

Adding Links to your YouBook: You can use the Hyperlink Tool to add a link to a website on any page within the YouBook. This can include links to external websites, instructor created resources on a personal website or links to content posted in the resources area of WebAssign. After clicking on the Hyperlink Tool, you will be prompted to enter the URL of an external website and a rollover title which will be visible to students when they mouse over the icon in your YouBook. Click Save. This will create an icon which allows you to place the hyperlink anywhere on the page. You can also delete these at any time by mousing over the icon and selecting delete. These hyperlinks are automatically shared with your students and will also appear in the My Media Tab in the Media Menu. 7

Integrating YouTube Videos into your YouBook: You may use the YouTube Video Tool to create and embed links to YouTube videos in your YouBook. This tool allows you to search directly for YouTube content without having to leave the YouBook. These video links will also appear in your students' books. Click the YouTube Video Tool to activate the video tool. There are two options for finding YouTube content. 1) You can search for terms or by using a YouTube Video ID to search for Videos. Search results will pull directly from YouTube. 2) Some textbook authors have provided a list of Recommended videos by chapter. You can view these videos by selecting the Recommended tab and then selecting your desired chapter. Select a Video to Preview it. You will also have the option of adding a note to the video which will be visible to students. If you would like to add the Video to your YouBook, click Add Video Link. This will create an icon that can be placed in the appropriate area of your textbook. You can also delete these at any time by mousing over the icon and selecting delete. These videos are automatically shared with your students and will also appear in the My Media Tab in the Media Menu. 8

Working with the Edit/Delete Text Tool: Editing Text You can use the Edit Text Tool to customize text passages in the book. Your alterations automatically appear in your students' books as blue popup boxes over the original text. Students will have the option to reposition the edit text box at any time to read original text. Click the Edit Text Tool icon and select Edit Text. Click on any text passage to highlight it using a virtual red pen. A popup editing box will appear. Type in your desired edits. Click the Checkmark button to save your edits. Click the X button to delete your edit and/or start over. Use the box resizing tool to resize the box according to your sizing and page placement needs. You may also click on the top blue banner bar to drag the text box anywhere on the page. Math notation is not able to be edited. If you select Math notation to edit, it will not be carried over into the popup editing box. 9

Delete Text You may use the Delete Text Tool to strikeout passages of text in the book. Your alterations automatically appear in your students' book as strikeouts over the original text, with a rollover description of the strikeout if you choose to write one. Click the Delete Text Tool to activate the Delete Text tool. Click on any text passage to strike it out using a virtual red pen. A popup box will appear which allows you to comment on the reason for your strikeout. Type in your comments or leave this blank and then click Save. You comment will appear in your student's book. You may remove a strikeout at any time. To remove, select the Delete Text Tool once again. Using the virtual red pen, click on the strikeout you wish to remove. 10

Using the Student Discussions Tool: The Student Discussion Tool allows you and your students to share comments and questions with each other. All students associated with you as an instructor (your lecture and/or sections) will be able to see each other's comments. Click the Student Discussion button to activate the Student Discussion board. You can post your comments or view comments that students have contributed. The Student Discussion Tool works much like instant messenger where an ongoing communication thread is recorded and can be accessed and reviewed at any time. Post a message by typing in the box and clicking the Post button. Your message will appear to students in blue with your name associated with it. You will see student responses in white. You may delete any of yours or your students comments at any time by clicking on the X button. 11

Printing Options with the Cengage YouBook: The YouBook provides multiple options for printing. In addition to being able to print any page from the YouBook, you and your students also have the ability to compile and print notes and highlights. To print pages, click the Print icon. Select either Current Page or a Page Range (you can print up to 10 pages at a time). When you are done, click the Print button. You computer will prompt you to select a printer. To print notes or highlights, open the respective Notes or Highlighter menus. Sort the notes or highlights according to your needs. Click the Print button. You will be informed that you are printing your notes or highlights according to their current sorted view. Click the Print button again. You computer will prompt you to select a Printer. Viewing the YouBook from the Student View: The Student Preview button located in the upper right hand corner of the page allows you to view your customizations from a student's perspective. You can see the book exactly as your students will see it. Please do not add or edit any content while you are in student preview mode. Your edits will not be saved. Setting YouBook Preferences: The Preferences Tool allows you to enable or disable a group of features in the student's book. Click the My Preferences button to view the My Preferences panel. Deselect the radio button to disable features and click the Apply button to save. 12
