2 PRODUCT RELATED INFORMATION Trade name of product: Hollow bricks HELUZ Unequivocal identification of the product according to the CPC classification system: CPC Division 3754: Tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone. 2.1 SPECIFICATION OF THE COMPANY The hollow bricks HELUZ are produced by HELUZ s. r. o. and sold by HELUZ cihlářský průmysl v. o. s., 373 65 Dolní Bukovsko 295, Czech Republic. Registration No. / VAT No.: 466 80 004/ CZ46680004 The company is recorded in the Company Register kept by the Regional Court in České Budějovice, Section A, File 1867. The record in the Company Register (22. 5. 1992) was ordered by the District Court in České Budějovice. Tel.: +420 389 018 111, fax: +420 386 354 309. The Company of HELUZ cihlářský průmysl v. o. s. produces a complex range of brick products which can be further used for rough constructions. Currently the Company has its manufacturing facilities in three locations. There is a brick production plant in Dolní Bukovsko where you can also find the Company s headquarter. This plant includes facilities for brick production, production of horizontal structures and production of roller blind lintels and chimney systems. In Hevlín, there are two production plants for complete range of brick products. Brick-kiln of Hevlín II is one of the most advanced manufacturing plants in Europe which is equipped with advanced technology; there are brick blocks which have the best thermal and insulation characteristics produced right here. In the brick-kiln of Libochovice, there is a production facility for brick blocks, accessories and also ceramic ceiling panels of HELUZ. The Company of HELUZ cihlářský průmysl v. o. s. sell its goods to foreign markets too - Slovakia, Austria, Germany, Poland and Hungary and offer following categories of brick: HELUZ FAMILY Unique news on Czech market used for passive and low-energy building without necessary thermal insulation. HELUZ STI Brick blocks of STI quality which comply with parameters of energy saving and low-energy buildings. HELUZ AKU Acoustic bricks for housing development. HELUZ PLUS, HELUZ P15 and HELUZ Brick blocks for internal and external masonry that will be additionally insulated. 4

2.2 TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCT The hollow brick HELUZ is an brick for general masonry use. It can be used for load bearing, non load bearing and acoustic masonry. Especially it can be used for one layer thermal insulated masonry, that reach U - value 0,15 W/m 2 K. This EPD covers all HELUZ brick production with the same composition. Differences are only in shape and volume of bricks. Material and energetical consumption of production is depended only on product weight. As this EPD is based on declaration unit which is 1000 kg of product, environmental data shown below are valid for all bricks. In accordance with the Requirements for an International EPD Scheme, similar products can be included in the same declaration result provided that the range of variation within each impact category does not exceed +/- 5%. Else the products can be reported in one declaration but as separate results. This EPD is valid for HELUZ bricks which are summarized in table 1. 2.3 DECLARED UNIT According to the PCR CPC 3754 (IEC 2011), the declared unit is 1 tonne (1000 kg) of finished bricks. 2.4 DESCRIPTION OF UNDERLYING LCA-BASED INFORMATION 2.4.1 SYSTEM BOUNDARIES The international EPD system has adopted an LCA calculations procedure which is separated into different life cycle stages: Upstream processes (from cradle-to-gate) Core processes including upstream and downstream infrastructure (from gate-to-gate) Downstream processes (from gate-to-grave). Based on PCR CPC 3754 (IEC 2011) the downstream module was not included into system boundaries. Transport of final product to a costumer is also excluded. Manufacturing and assembly. Packaging. Scraps and waste treatment of core processes. 2.4.2 DATA QUALITY All relevant data are specific data. Data used for calculation were relevant for year 2011. Data set needed for calculation is complete. 2.4.3 LCA STUDY The LCA calculations rules used for this declaration outlines follow the overall requirements for the international EPD system. These rules follow the international standards ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 with respect to EN 15804. The product system for this LCA has been described by using specific data when available; generic data have been used in accordance with PCR 3754 (IEC 2011) and GPI (IEC 2008) requirements. Underlying LCA study used for this EPD was completely covered all relevant inputs. For LCA study site specific data from producer were used. The LCA was conducted in year 2012. Underlying LCA study was elaborated by LCA studio, www.lcastudio.cz (Kočí 2012). 8

2.5 CONTENT OF MATERIALS AND CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES The hazardous chemical substances are not present in the product. The brick HELUZ consists of burnt brick clay. The packaging for transport is PE film and paper. 3 ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE-RELATED INFORMATION All environmental performance is reported per declared unit. 3.1 USE OF RESOURCE Table 2 reports the main consumption of resources for burnt brick HELUZ life cycle. Use of resources in kg/ D.U and in MJ/D.U. is expressed. All energy data are expressed as net caloric value. Electricity consumption during manufacturing (core) processes is expressed in MJ/D.U. 3.2 POTENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT The environmental impacts of 1 tonne of burnt bricks HELUZ based on CML characterization model as required by EPD programme in GPI (IEC 2008) are presented in table 4. Other waste: 660,32 kg/d.u. 3.4 TOXIC SUBSTANCES During use phase of burnt brick HELUZ no toxic substances are released. 10

4 ADDITIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION The Company HELUZ cihlářský průmysl v. o. s. operates brick-kiln Hevlín II, which is one of the most advanced manufacturing plants in Europe and is equipped with advanced technology. There are produced brick blocks with the best thermal and insulation characteristics in the central Europe. This technology allows the most ecological production of brick and the some product obtained an ecological certificate Nature Plus. HELUZ has established and applied a combined management system for development, production, sales and services of it s products. An audit was performed, Report No. P-3013EPD-13-0196. Proof has been furnished that the requirements according to EN ISO 9001:2000 are fulfilled. The company has created a system that monitors changes that may affect the content of the EPD. Obtained certificates EN ISO 9001, and the commitment of whole company s staff to quality give the customers a guarantee of a standard quality of products. 5 MANDATORY STATEMENT EPDs within the same product category but from different programmes may not be comparable.
