BOSTADSFÖRMEDLINGEN WILL HELP YOU FIND A NEW HOME
ABOUT BOSTADSFÖRMEDLINGEN STOCKHOLM S HOUSING AGENCY We are a municipal company owned by the city of Stockholm. We do not own homes, nor do we build homes. Our task is to let vacant rental units in the Stockholm region. It costs SEK 210 per year to stand in the housing queue. You do not need to live in Stockholm to be in the queue. You can register from the day you turn 18 years old. You need to have a Swedish national identification or coordination number to register.
THE WAY TO A NEW HOME You are responsible for searching for and registering your interest in homes in the Stockholm region offered through Bostadsförmedlingen. The more active you are in the process, the greater your chances of getting an apartment sooner. How to do it: 1 JOIN THE HOUSING QUEUE Start by registering online at bostad. stockholm.se. The yearly fee is SEK 210, payable once you receive your invoice. 2 SEARCH AND REGISTER YOUR INTEREST On Bostadsförmedlingen s website, click on the Mina sidor tab to search and register your interest in available apartments. 3 ATTEND HOME VIEWINGS If you are invited to see an apartment, it is important that you go. In many cases the property owner requires the potential tenant to attend the viewing. 4 ACCEPT OR DECLINE After the viewing you need to confirm or deny your interest in the apartment. The easiest way to do so is via Mina sidor. 5 SHOW VERIFICATION If you are next in the queue of those who accepted, we will contact you. You need to show verification that you meet the property owner s requirements to be offered the apartment, such as proving you have adequate income. So be sure to read the requirements before applying for an apartment you're interested in. 6 SIGN THE CONTRACT If you are next in the housing queue and fulfil the property owner s requirements, it s time to sign a contract. Your waiting time is reset, but you will remain in the queue as long as you pay the annual fee. DID YOU KNOW? If you are a tenant with a primary contract with Stockholm s municipal housing agencies, you can join the internal exchange queue. Read more at bostad.stockholm.se.
DIFFERENT HOMES FOR DIFFERENT STAGES IN LIFE Life can offer twists and surprises, which can lead to new housing needs. Bostadsförmedlingen provides a wide range of housing for different stages of life. If you are between 18 and 25 years old, for example, you may be looking for relatively small and less costly youth housing. If you are studying or are enrolled in a university, polytechnic or vocational programme, you can apply for student housing. If you are 55 or older, you can let homes adapted for seniors. Short-term contracts allow you to get a temporary residence while keeping your spot in the housing queue. Our Buddy contract (Kompiskontrakt) means you and a friend can share an apartment and rental agreement. BOSTADSSNABBEN Apartments on Bostadssnabben require swift or special handling in order to be let in time. First come, first served.
ONE YEAR OR TWENTY: HOW LONG IS THE QUEUE FOR A HOME? The amount of time it takes to find a home depends on a number of factors, including where you want to live, how many other people are interested in living in the same area, and how much rent you are prepared to pay. Most of our applicants get an apartment within six to ten years of registering, but it can go faster. Last year, 440 apartments were let to people with less than one year's waiting time. Most of the apartments were new developments. And if you're a student, young person, or over 55 years old, there are a lot of extra ways of getting an apartment, too.
